Basic tactics question.  I can't keep my archer from drawing his sword and charging into battle.  How do I prevent this?  Thanks.

Don't give him a sword, or any other 2nd weapon.

Better answer would be to go to the tactics screen and on right hand side there is a drop down called behavior. Change it from default to ranged. On default your character will use melee once it has used all or any archer talents set in their tactics

Learn how to use the Combat Tactics section. To get you started, I'll tell you how to fix your issue:



In the Tactics screen for your archer on the right hand side, select "Ranged" in the dropdown (read the description when you mouse over the name).

On Tactics tab, set him to Archer and Ranged. If they still insist on charging forward and you don't want to remove their sword, just make sure they have their bow equipped. Personally, setting Archer/Ranged works pretty well for me, though it aint perfect yet as they don't always switch weapons (as you've noticed).

Couple of ways you can do this.  yep, the obvious answer is not to give them a sword.
Go into the character's tactics.  You can use a preset like "archer".  Or, set their attack type to "Ranged".
I have some characters that I set to Ranged, while warriors are set to "scrapper [preset]" or "aggressive".
