I love DAO,  but Athkatla/Trademeet and the Docks in BG2  had more atmosphere that the Denerin Market /Amaranthine in DA.

just my 2 cents

;););)

To be honest i'm in the middle of a replay at the minute and I think it was just the hand-drawn aspect that made you think that. Everyones stood about not doing anything, ALOT of scripted events I guess, like habib for example...

BUT yea, nostalgia me thinks :P The ambient sounds are amazing in it though, and the city is huge and varied.

Yeah, Habib, The racist in Athkatla discriminating Jaheira/Aeirie/Viconia, Vampires attacking at night, the Priest of Cyric,  Ther beggar in the Docks, The Criers, Sailors,  etc.

For me they contribute to the game even though they are not NPCs. And these people approach you to start the conversation.  The soundtrack/background music/random shout-outs  and the hand drawn aspect  as you've said also contributed to the better atmosphere in BG2.

I liked how at the tavern at the dwarf city the music that was playing was that from BG2 taverns :) (and as someone informed me from NW too)

BG was beaming with life, that's the idea you got.

DAO is more "solitary" and "dark".

But we can't compare the two on equal terms (either in favor or against either one) because the technology is very different.

Yeah, even the random things the people say to you when you approach them, like:

"Yer a long-tongued lout, ain't ye?"
"Wife's gettin' prickly on me arse".
"Away with you beggar!"

It brings a smile to my face. And how about that crazy fellow attempting to commit suicide just outside of Candlekeep? You tell him to jump and he changes his mind.:D

- Get rid of the bullet board style sidequests. Invest in a back story and maybe inject some comedy or personality into them, assign them a decent cast of actors and let us pick the quests up in bars/brothels/streets/circle tower etc, I don't care just ANYTHING but that horrible system.
-  Make loot more interesting. It was so uninspired in DAO, world of warcraft had more interesting loot and it had to balance everything on a needles point, why be so strict guys? How about items like carsomyr eh!?

Sure, bullet board was little easy way to do it. Also loot was not good at all. I don't mean just what's in loot, it was extreme bad system. Example locked chests had same loot then unlocked. Also many loot was like pick this one item. Why waste players time to loot one item from every loot. Why not give one bigger loot.

- Can we please have more personalities in the characters we meet? The party members in DAO were great, but the supporting cast were fairly bleh, for some reason it contributed towards making the world feel dreadfully static.

No thanks. Allready games and movies have this problem, exterme character personalities. Meaning too many extreme personalties in so small group of npcs. Most people in real life are BOORING, so game should also have enough NORMAL people. Not every character has to be so extreme. If you make too many extreme personalities, the situations become unbelievable. There has to be some reality left too.

- More variation in environments! DAO pulled off the dwarven area so well then made the elven gypsies look just like gypsies and the humans all lived in poverty except for a few bland castle environs. How about section on a boat? Or atop a volcano? anything! :P

I agree. DAO enviroment was most part extreme booring. Only few places in DAO where interesting looking enough.

I want badass armored unicorns.

Also, weather and time progression from day to night would be neat.

The only thing i'd like to see is better looking mage gear. A pointed hat would have been cooler then those fugly headdresses.

They should add more random people in a Market District with many people bumping into you and encountering pickpockets, beggars, prostitutes at night, criers, etc. If possible within  Kirkwall society they should include Public Executions/Humiliations as well.

Totally agree. Denerim feels more like an mmo hub than a town  - an open space with building backdrops where vendors and quest NPC's stand like mannequins waiting for the player to interact with them.

What gives you that impression?  Besides romance is optional.

And what I want? Lots of banter, dialogue and customization. I don't think I have much to worry about.

Yeah!!  You win a cookie!!

One thing that I really want is for specializations to actually mean something and affect the story.

For example, say if you choose the Templar spec.  Well, I'd like it if you actually became a Templar and if other characters recognized you as a Templar.

How would your sister Bethany feel about you becoming a Templar?  How would the Templars in control of Kirkwall react to you now that you are "one of them."?  Would Cassandra show more of an interest since her job as a Seeker is to police the Templars?

As a Templar, do you side with your fellow Templars?  Or, do you "go rogue" and support your sister and the mages in the conflict?

One of DAO's big characterisation vehicles was sex/romance (as it is in the vast majority of heroic epic tales). I don't expect DA2 to be much different . It is mature entertainment, after all. Maybe you're just playing the wrong games?

I want an engaging story that has lots of twists and isn't easy but totally lets me kick ass. I want a love interest that is strong yet sensitive, extremely attractive and totally into me who isn't a cookiecutter or a walkover. My LI should not be into anything kinky that I'm not into and should be totally ready for sex when I want but should initiate it all on their own. They shouldn't be predictable but they should never surprise me.

And I want a pony. Or a unicorn. Preferably in rainbow pastel colours.

Evil. And I mean intelligent, genre-savvy, Magnificent Bastardy evil, not "I'ma beat you up and take your money" thuggish evil. IMO Obsidian does twisted evil much better than BioWare--god, the things you can do in KOTOR and NWN2--but I'll take what I can get.

You know when you meet that farmer in Lothering who you can intimidate with your weapon (saucy), I want more of that. "Now in all this confusion I can't remember whether i've used all my stamina, but seeing as this is starfang probably the most deadly weapon in the game the question youv'e got to be asking yourself is do I feel lucky. Well do you KNAVE"

Yeah, marinate with some broth, a little parsley, a little gahlic ... delish.

Ehh, whateva. Just do a fourth class Bio. It has seemed self-evident to me from day one; four character slots, four classes.

Either that, or revamp the specialization system so that it doesn't suck, and specializing your character almost "feels" like a prestige class.
