Hello everyone. If you want to get the items fast, here a few advices.
Mage
- The stun spell is the way to go. You can also take the Barrier because it takes less mana.
- For the other spells, go as you like. You will save your mana for the stuns anyway.
- Blast with your staff and stun when it gets too close to the mage. You can send Martine on the other monsters.
- Keep the 2 mages in your team. They can blast at range and it makes it pretty easy to end combat fast.
Warrior
- Go either Dual Wield or 2handed. Shield is definitely not worth it.
- 2Handed is better because it's easier to get a good weapon.
- Take the first 2handed skill that make you run faster after a kill.
- Team up with martine. Stun with the mage. Heal when you need.
Rogue
- Go dual wield. Use him like a fighter. You can take the rogue skill to add movement. You can also get the throw dirt skill that stun the ennemy. It can help when you get martine on an ogre and your mage is without mana.
General advice
- Selling is useless. Just run around the areas and loot ennemy. Equip things as soon as you get something better.
- You need at least a tier 2 weapon to finish the game. If you don't you'll miss most of the time.
- As soon as you get a weapon of another tier, take it. No matter what the bonuses were.
- Find a area where there's some good loot and make a couple of easy fights to get loot. The final area are good enough too so you'll probably get good loot before the final matches.
- Emissary fight
Pretty easy once you get the stun. Run toward him with your fighter and stun him as soon as you can. Hit it as hard as you can and he'll die.
- Alphas
Do not fear them. Run toward them and kill. If he uses his meteor, he can't use another one (too low stamina) so kill the other stuff if he's far away. If you have a mage, you can also shoot him while your fighter finish the critter.
- Ogre
They're pretty easy once you stun them. Make sure you get 100% attack and use the 2handed special attack on him. You can do about 71dmg with a tier2 blade.
I hope it can help somebody.

The "kill 2 ennemy in one attack" achievement is pretty easy. With the mage companion, learn the 2nd electricity spell. damage 2 monsters to near dead and let them group up. The spell take the form of a fan (V shape). Easier than the fire spell and easier than with a dual wielder too. I was successful with my dual wielding rogue too however.
For the bard, it'S the elf near where you get the mage companion. When you talk to the dwarf there to see the king, immediately talk to the bard. He'll join you. I never used him however. I prefered sheer dmg and one cc was enough. Favor casters over archer too. He has some nice skill but preventing dmg at easy is moot. Especially from archers. Just heal or take potion. Potions cost 1s at a vendor so you can buy 20 of each if you really need.
Good luck.

I went 1h & shield for no other reason but to check it out in this game, because i doubt i'm ever gonna use a shield in DA:O. It's not my style.
I present this testimony for how 1h & shield has performed for me: The shield skill that makes you immune to flanking, & the one after that that upgrades that immunity to include critical hits & backstabs seem to be the only good skills in the line. everything else about the line stinks, & in-game, I can't tell if the extra defense from the shield is even useful, or if the enemy damage would be the same in 2h mode. Yet another game in a long line of games where the shield defense power is gimp.
I agree with the using the 2nd tier cone aoe lightning spell to get the 'kill 2 enemies in one attack' achievement. That's how I did it. I had the spirit healer companion learn the spell, & used him for the task. It counted for me. I had no trouble figuring this one out, since that spell was the 1st available aoe for me, & I took it asap. Long live Lightning!

I agree. However, using a strategy makes it faster and painless. Just saying. If you go around casting lightning on all the mob of if you train stealth to the max and stealth around in fight, you might be a bit disapointed with your rogue...

They really messed up with the sword & board talents they picked IMO. Everything is passive or defensive, and the defensive ones don't seem to be worth much. Beats me why they didn't implement some of the offensive talents from that style in Journeys.

I guess they did not want every talent tree to have something that can remove someoen from fighting for a limited time.

good advice, however I like the bard and his buff. I am using S+B and am almost through as a warrior and its OK. I regret not going 2hand though as it takes ages to take anything down.

Anybody else having problems getting the helm because of Mighty Magic is not triggering despite having completed the game with all 3 classes?

S&B is lower dps than the other options, but you're crazy if you think it's worthless. I didn't notice a huge decrease in the damage I took, but being immune to flanking attacks is pretty huge on hard.

Nice tactics.. but I haven't done anything like that. Stun is useful, yes - but I use the NPC mage for healing/buffing mainly (I took the fire multi-target spell to get Flaming Weapons). Managed to complete the game fine w/ no stuns used once and plan on trying again.
When playing the Mage - have the warrior in the party take the Taunt skill; this will pull unwanted aggro off the mage and keep them able to keep the main fighters alive.
I agree about shields not being worth it, I wasted some talent points in shield skills that I never really ended up using on my Warrior; 2H is good because so many good 2H weapons are available. Stats actually should be taken into consideration in my opinion - resistance to physical damage helps you survive longer as I have seen no non-phyiscal damage from enemies in Chapter 1.
I was actually expecting the emissary fight to be harder - but keeping the NPC mage back to heal (she is classed as a 'Spirit Healer' mage after all) helped me take him down with little trouble.
Of course, these are just my views on strategy
- thanks to the OP for providing some ideas though, I might end up using them on another playthrough (after completing the game completely w/ all 3 with my tactics)

Stealth is really nice if you are playing a rogue, mainly for one reason:
If you use stealth right in the round you want to backstab with it, you will not lose any stamina points.
So, if you don't get detected (and with level2 stealth you will usually not, if you have a good movement), you get a free backstab all the time, doing about as much damadge as a tier2 weapon warrior with mighty swing.
So, even when you are already in melee combat, go a few hexes back so you can activate stealth and backstab your enemy.

Yes...I hope there is some way of fixing that. Also, what the hell happened with the forums? why are the Dragon Age forums now on the Bioware Social Networking site?WintermuteZero wrote...

I am having this exact problem, anyone know if it will be addressed?
