Heh, would be quite ironic, since poor Dr. Michel got twisted into one of them (a Garrus fangirl) by the writer who decided to infect the whole galaxy with rampant xenophilia after the events of ME1...

Check out Baldur's Gate 2 and take Aerie and Haer'Dalis.  You have to compete with Haer for Aerie, and can wind up losing.  I think the same happens with Amonen if you're female.  But I forget who the competitor is.

No, there's no Anomen equivalent. And almost everyone hated the Aerie/Haer'Dalis thing. Partially because of their characters and how it was handled, and partially because no one likes thinking that their love interest is more interested in someone else, and the only thing standing in the way is you picking the perfect dialogue options so you don't upset them.

At one point, Haer'Dalis was an intended female romance and Aerie would have been your rival, but it was scrapped.

Plus, she completely manipulates Shepard into doing her dirty work in ME1. She makes a fool out of you, a Spectre. That is an offense punishable by cranium ventilation. I cheered when Thane offed her.

It's kind of been bothering me for a while and I want to put my mind at ease.

Seems like no. It sounds more like Liara drove him up the wall with "shepard" this and "Shepard" that while being with Feron. If you have a relationship with Liara it sounds like Feron himself even mentions that how your on the top of her mind while he was merely a partner in crime.

I like it because she says YOU made it clear

If you DIDN'T have Liara as a romance before, and ask her about her and Feron, she mentions that they are friends and that she thinks it would be taking advantage of him to become more than that so soon after he is free from his 2-years of torture. So she had thought about it, I guess.

Answer to the question - the cop-out version.

No.

Scenario one: if Liara is Shepard's love interest from ME1 and stayed loyal, Liara is happy to continue the relationship and Feron is just a friend who she felt indebted to.

Scenario two: if Liara is not Shepard's love interest from ME1, then she still went to great lengths to recover Shepard's body as a friend. Liara's relationship with Feron could develop beyond friendship (as witnessed through the relevant dialogue), but she would still be friends with Shepard.

In either scenario Feron does not threaten Shepard and Liara's relationship. It has to be said that there doesn't appear to be a middle option if you played Shepard as being xenophobic in ME1 though.
