I've just started a another playthrough and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the best armor for rogues as compared to best armor for warriors. Also, know some armor is available through Wade, but only after certain dialogue choices - how does that work?

Rogues:

The best armor for rogues is a custom mix, not Wade's anything. I think there's a comprehensive list in the rogue guides listed in this forum. Note that many of the items here are the same as for warriors, particularly the rings/helm/neck/belt, and in the very beginning even the Battledress.

If I remember it correctly it's something like:

Battledress of the Provocateur/The Felon's Coat (about equally good)
Cadash Stompers
Red Jenny Seekers
Key to the City
The Wicked Oath
The High Regard of House Dace
Andruil's Blessing
Helm of Honnleath

If this is not the absolute best, I do apologize, but it's a lot better than Wade's whatever, that's for sure :)

Warriors:

I think you can get something out of the armor sets here, but a custom mix is still good. The Legion of the Dead set is pretty good for DW warriors because of the +damage. Other good sets are the Warden Commander set from Warden's Keep and Wade's Superior Dragonbone Plate Armor.

For a Templar you might want the special spell resist gear that's only available to them.

Now about Wade's:

Once you have collected enough drake and dragon scales, you can give them to Wade (start out by giving him drake scales). The first time you will get a normal set. If you voluntarily pay extra (still the first time), then the NEXT set will be of superior quality. When asking for the next set, you can pay extra, and the third and final set (dragon scale this time) will be of superior quality.

But be aware that The Felon's Coat and some other stuff from Wade is not available after you finish all the armor sets because Wade will refuse to trade after that. Wade's selection only becomes fully unlocked after three main quests, so I'd wait until after that point to make the dragon armors.

Battledress and Felons Coat are both decent selections, but so is Evons mail; for both Rogue archers and DW specialists.
And I would say the those Repeater gloves everyone seems to like may be better than Red Jenny Seekers for an archer. Lifegiver with Key to the City are my ring choices, and Spellward for the Spell and Dodge bonuses as my amulet.

And as Wade's Superior heavy mail will work as a set with Evon's, I would still keep this on my person through DAO and into DAA.

Awesome, thanks! I've a Dalish Warrior with a specialization in Archery, and a City Elf Warrior, but haven't decided what she's going to specialize in yet. My first character was a human noble, rogue and I ended with the Felon's coat, which was pretty good. Somehow, though, I tend to miss a lot of the really quality weapons and armor, so I thought I'd ask. :)

Actually most of the rogue items I listed above are pretty good for a warrior archer too! I have played a warrior archer that used Battledress of the Provocateur and it worked brilliantly. This choice is particularly good in Awakening where dex becomes much better than strength for archers. In Origins you can afford to grab more strength without hurting your damage output.

Elhanan: The items I listed were for the standard dex or cunning builds. If you are going for strength, then indeed Evon's is brilliant. I listed Wicked Oath for DPS reasons. For survival Lifegiver is better. For a rogue I would always use The High Regard of House Dace if I had it. The bonuses are just too great to ignore. Plus it's items like this that let you completely ignore willpower in your character build and get away with it even from the very beginning.

I use Battledress at the beginning for my STR builds, too. It is fine armor until one can afford and wear heavier sets, if desired. But if I am playing a Warrior, I give the Dace amulet to Lil, as Cunning is more needed for my locksmith.

It's a huge boost for a warrior though. What I do is use it on my warrior, and if I run across a chest I can't unlock, I give it to Leliana and take it back again.
