I'd be grateful for any help you can give.
The version of BG is the one sold through GOG.com but I remember having the same problem when I played it back in the day. None of my friends seemed to have that problem however.
Thank you.

Also I think they attack you if you're a Fallen Ranger, not sure on that one though.

Also, wasn't the man searching for bandits right before nashkel working for the Flaming Fist? Wouldn't that mean the man right outside of nashkel isn't related to the soldiers of amn??

1. I don't think there is any dialogue option for the initial guard you meet when entering Nashkell (from the north) that initiates battle, so that 's not itFluorescentt wrote...
I am having the same problem (had this game for many years, just now playing it after NWN). I met the first officer outside of Nashkel and I told him I was hunting bandits and trying to avenge some Noble in Baldur's Gate and he let me off the hook. My character is evil, but my party's reputation isn't that low... we've only done 1 bad thing and that was killing the men asking Silke for a jewel of some sort.

2. you can kill the irate Flaming Fist soldier south of Beregost without a rep loss (at least I did without one, though it's ironic that killing a Flaming Fist soldier ruins reputation with a Soldier of Amn)
3. you can kill the Silke dupes without a rep loss (at least I did without one)
Start the game and check your reputation. It's just a number problem. If it's too low, that's it. You may have killed some innocent you didn't notice.

If you were to successfully take them on (and with help from exploding inadvertent allies this is possible, but still...) you will probably incur further reputation losses.Fluorescentt wrote...
So... if my party rep is too low, soldiers of amn will attack me?? And is there a way to get around it without starting over? Because I cannot take these guys on.
I'm not sure if I've ever pushed that particular envelope (other than out of spite given how I'd inadvertently killed an innocent and decided to push the limits), but I believe that if you have enough gold you can go to a priest and pay to have your reputation increased to a level that doesn't incur instant attacks by law-enforcers. I'm not certain that even a priest will speak to you if you're low enough in reputation, but there is yet another option- a very hard way- that involves finding and completing quests that increase your reputation. Then you might be high enough in reputation at least to speak to a priest to buy your way to heaven- *ahem* good standing. You have to find those quests around, but if they increase your reputation enough, you can then enter town without issue. I'm also not sure whether the hostility that you encountered previously will be neutralized by simply reinstating your reputation basis.
Not attacking innocents makes things... less complicated...

I see. I will have to try this. Thank you.
