Rto on the ps3 is just a UK issue and no you dont have to be connected to the psn

(Posted Image I don't think 360 users care about the PSN, but thanks! )

And no, XB users don't have to be connected either, except to obtain INITIAL authorization. (Those pesky "codes".)

OK, so let me ask, what is all the hoopla about? If you have been playing DAO from jump street and have DAA, all of the patchs and all of the DLC's, which I have, why would you want to go with this "Ultimate Edition"? Isn't it designed for NEW players, or am I missing something here?

You are missing nothing.  If you're a new player who doesn't have any of it, then it's definitely a great way to acquire everything at once.

But even if you have DA:O, if you HAVEN'T been buying all the DLC, and especially if you haven't already got DA:A, then the UE represents a cost-effective way to get ALL of the remaining material.  Or a way to give the entire set as a gift to someone else!

more of a precaution for me, I don't like the whole digital downloadable stuff, rather have a hard copy of it all... (though from what I am reading it is sorta still the same way?) what if in 2 years they decide to wipe the server or something like that >_>...

In two years it won't matter what they do, as long as you had already validated your authorization codes for the DLC before then.

You don't ever need to connect to anywhere at all after that step.  And this is true even for set-ups like mine.  All of my Dragon Age  materials are the retail discs and downloaded DLC.  Once installed, I can unplug my network cable and everyting works just fine  (I've actually done this as a test, just to check.)

Quick question, and sorry if it's already been answered (long thread!) - I've read that the Ultimate Edition is a limited time offer. Is there any indication of how long it will be around?

Well to be fair that missing DLC issue is only on the UK version. No problem on the US version.

I bought the ultimate edition for my PS3, as I wanted to try Dragon Age on a console. It will also give me a chance to experience Awakening and some of the other DLC that I decided that I did not want for my PC main character.

Since I bought the UK edition, I got the RTO bug thingy, but the nice people at technical support helped really quickly and it was a minor annoyance all in all. Surely they will fix this so that the people who buy it later won't have to jump through this admittedly annoying hoop, but in any case, I am very happy with my purchase... In fact, I would recommend this to anyone who has not tried DA:O at all, for those like me who want to try different platforms, or even as a christmas gift for other RPG-players who have not tried this great game.

edit: annoying spelling error removed.

Glad I waited on Dragon Age until now, this is an insane deal considering I hadn't owned either game or any of the DLC yet.

Absolutely, I'd held off getting DA:A hopeing for disk release (i'm on PS3 and It's £32 GBP on PSN) as I refuse to pay that much for digital content.
The only DLC's I had were SP, WK and RtO. So I personally have saved a lot of money by waiting for UE which I bought for £34 GBP saving myself nearly £20 GBP in DLC costs. An absolute bargain.

In fact, I'll be waiting for a GOTY edition with DA2 aswell to get the DLC that will inevitably be released for it.

Just so you know there actually was a disc release for Awakening. At least here there was. Actually I saw it on the shelf at the store today right next to the standard edition and UE.

Just so you know. You did get the best deal in the end anyway so no biggy.

Answer 1: No.
Answer 2: Unknown.  BioWare contracts out to another company to port PC games to the Mac, and it appears (based on the communications in the Forums by BioWare staff on this topic) that it's actually a case of that firm "deciding" which ones they want to work on, and when they can fit it into their schedule.  BioWare doesn't really control the process.

Wow I had no idea Bioware actually outsourced for the Mac version.

Took me a bit to look it up, but the firm is "TransGaming".  Their ports of RtO  and the1.03 patch were released at the end of July 2010 (which gives you some idea of lag between the PC and Mac versions.)

If you install the UE now and authorize everything online... then uninstall it. Then install it again down the road, do you or do you not have to authorize it again online?

Dollars to doughnuts (or Euros to eclairs) you'd have to re-authorize.

in europe(and uk where I am) it was psn download only, getting a usa disc version is out of the question due to the region incompatibility issues(ps3 maybe region unlocked but from what I've read you have to get the same region dlc/expansion pack as the original disk).

I got the c.e version plus da:a, rto and wk, not got the other 4 dlcs yet and had been thinking about getting them till the ue was announced.

I'm now thinking about getting the ue on the pc as I've ordered da 2 se for the pc(£20.99 from ea store using voucher codes, can only get 20% off now so £27.99 for people ordering now).

I was looking to order the ue from ea store as it was coming to £11.99 with voucher codes but I ummed and arred to long and now it's coming to £14.99 so I'm thinkig of getting it from amazon which is £2-£3 more but you get physical media(and as my internet is slow it's faster for me to get it from amazon with free next day delivery due to prime).

as some one else asked, what happens ones the dlcs have been autherised the first time you install but then you uninstall and then reinstall at a later date(or if you get a new pc/reinstall windows)? do you have to go through the autherisation? one of the bioware people said you can re-download the dlcs(as they're assocciated to your account) but wouldn't doing a full reinstall from the disks reinstall the dlcs?

p.s. looking at the register games bit, can you not register the psn version of da:a? as choosing register asks for the upc code on the case, since the disk version wasn't released in europe no code. due to that I'm missing the symbol from under my avatar(or at least where the avatar should be). on that note shame they didn't carry over the games owned data from the old forums, I have nwn + all expansions and me1.

The region lock on DLC applies to DLC only, not the disc. If you downloaded the DLC from PSN yes you would have to have the same region original disc. But this does not apply to the disc version, as the disc version is treated as a game, not DLC exactly. ALL Blu-ray discs are region free period.

While I share the "long-term" concern, it bugs me less than "secuROM" for example.

I have been hearing a rumor and would like to confirm this with anyone who already has UE. people have been saying that after they installed the 2nd disc on the xbox360, they can only use the content while connected to live, is this true? i really don't want to have to be connected every time, i was getting ready to buy tomorrow but want to confirm this.

In xbox 360 version, you don't have to be connected to live to play the content, i already finished darkspawn chronicles and leliana's song offline, you only need to connect to live to get the patch for witch hunt.

Question, I had previously bought and beat Dragon age collectors edition disc version for PC. I have just today bought DAO ultimate edition fron D2D and the only thing it has is the original game and awakening in the DLC page. all my DLC from collectors edition and new DLC supposed to be included with the ultimate edition (excluding awakening) say I Am unauthorized. I used the same bioware/EA account for both registrations. Can anybody tell me how to enable everything at once?? I have only ever had 1 email address and am thus confused. Also strange is that I can now play Awakening but the DLC which I activated with a promo code from the same Email that had the activation for Awakening is listed as unauthorized:( Can someone please help or at least direct me where to go for help? I tried to figure it out with EA tech support and email them but their site is a POS.
