I started playing DA: O when I heard a sequel was coming out and nowI have to agree with Haatsmurf. I originally purchased the Collector's Edition, Warden's Keep, and the Shale DLC, now I'm a little flummoxed to see that I can buy the Ultimate edition to get Awakening and the DLC I missed at a price cheaper than it would cost me to just get Awakening and the DLC I'm missing. No way I'm going to rush to buy any more games from EA when I know I can wait awhile and get everything at a better price. I'm hoping EA will show some loyalty to its existing customers by offering the expansion and DLC at a reduced price for those of us who already purchased the game instead of attempting to only entice new customers.

you should not have needed to buy the shale dlc as it should have been a free dlc included with standard and collectors edition versions, unless of course you got it after end of april 2010(well at the back of the ps3 version of the collectors edition it says the codes expire 30th april 2010, not sure if its same for pc and xbox360 versions).

wasn't the ue version already out when you got da:o? I don't remember the dates of the announcements or releases but I thought the ue was already out by the time da2 was announced.

on a different not I managed to install the ue on my pc without any problems with the dlc, I got the game back in november and installed it on the pc when it had vista 64bit installed on it but I recently(well last month) installed windows 7 after formatting the hard disk. as I'd already activated the ue on my account back in november I was hoping I'd just have to sign-in in game and the dlcs would be autherised.

I know you're right, Thandal, but it's still a pain in the ass. DA: A is $30 right now, and that plus the cost of Return to Ostagar and The Golem DLC is more than just purchasing DA: O UE. But when one looks at Blizzard or Obsidian, whenever they release an all-in-one bundle, the add-ons get a huge discount. What frustrates me with EA is that I feel they are dumping on their customers; the people who drive up initial sales and make all the big money on the game are getting no rewards while the company is focusing on attracting new players. I only started playing DA: O again because I wanted to get ready for DA 2 and even preorder for the extra goods, but I now feel that I'm just going to get burned again in the future and I can wait the 18 months by playing other games.

How is ANYTHING about this "a pain in the ass"? Buying or not buying software is about as far from being "a pain in the ass" as it gets. Point, click, done. And no one is pushing you into the fire. If you feel you'll "get burned", just wait a year-and-a-half.

But I don't see that BioWare is dumping on anyone. As you pointed out, the ENTIRE collection of add-ons is now available at a huge discount. Why, it even has the base game included - for FREE!

That's how everything goes though.

Buy a game new, or get the "game of the year" edition or whatever for half or less of the original price.

Stand in line for an iPhone when a new model comes out, or wait a few months and get it for $200 less.

It's the tax of having to be first to have something. Origins came out for $50 on PC, I waited until December of that year and got it for $30, and that's still more than buying the Ultimate Edition, comparatively. Is it annoying? You bet, but it happens with everything.

Eh...if anything shoving all this stuff into one big Ultimate Edition means when DA2 comes out I may just hold out for the inevitable Ultimate edition there.

Or you could buy DA2 but not any of the DLC for it so you get to play the original game. Then a year later you can buy the ultimate edition which will probably still be a discount on all 7/8 DLC or even expansion packages.

OR you could not buy it when it comes out, wait for the "ultimate" edition and save even more money. And neves... just in case the patching gets screwed up again.;)

At least that's my plan if EA / BioWare stick with DLC-ing their games to shreds.
If there's a bundle without Origins itself and a bloody patch making the game work properly again under Win7 I'd probably buy that.

Yeah, you could but don't you want to play Dragon Age II when it first comes out? I do. I bought most the DLC when it came out too, though I probably won't do that with DA2. The vanilla game itself is, in my opinion, probably worth buying in March if I go on past BW games quality. I too am annoyed at how companies are treating DLC since it started this gen, but hopefully it will be corrected soon. Hopefully.

Nah, I'd rather wait and get it all at a decent price. Plenty of older games to tide me over.

While I've read Mr. Melo's comment on installing UE over existing installs, I'm still a bit concerned about doing so. I had a friend for whom doing so screwed up not just his installation but his EA/Bioware account and support told him he had to create a new one. Since I use that account for a slew of games, I don't want to see that happen.

My situation is this:

I bought the Collector's Edition w/ preorder extras

I had most extra items you could get (DA:Journeys, Character Creator, etc.)

I bought Warden's Keep and I think one other DLC

I believe Shale came with the main purchase, but I had that one

Now I'd like to get the rest of the content without mangling what I've already got. Is that going to be impossible using the UE? Thank you.

I successfully installed the UE over my existing DA:O/A set-up. Only problem was the the DAUpdater service didn't get the right permissions so it wasn't starting with the game. That meant all the additional content (DLC) was appearing both as "Available" ( to purchase - again!) and as "unauthorized".

Once I started the service manually, everything got straightened out, but I had to remember to do it every time I started the game. ('course it would remind me every time if I didn't because I'd get the "Warning - This load requires missing components ...." otherwise!) Found the more complete/permanent fix and posted the instructions here: http://social.biowar...8/index/6093270 .

So enjoy!

Thandal, thanks for your reply. I did see your post mentioning that service and am glad you got things working.

Mr. Melo mentioned something that, while it's not a huge deal, has me curious. He said, about installing UE over an existing installation, "It will NOT include the retailer pre-order promo items, or the collector's edition items." Is that what you experienced? I have pre-order items, Collector's Edition items, DA:Journeys items, etc. If you had some of those as well, did you find them gone? And, if so, how does that affect existing saves?

Thank you.

Unless you delete your "/addins" folder, the already existing stuff stays. It's just that the "other" promo items" aren't included on the UE discs. And since selecting "Keep Characters and Saves" during an uninstall doesn't keep THAT folder, if you do it that way you'll lose those items.

In my case, I had no issues with losing additional content/mods, only with gettting the "official" material to be "enabled" because the DAUpdater service wasn't running. Once I fixed that, (manually, or now automagically) all was well with the "authorizations".

But I had made a backup copy of my entire "/[user's profile]/Bioware/Dragon Age" folder before I started. Yes, EVERYTHING. (And yes, I have a large HDD!)

There was actually more to my situation, (multiple installs/un-installs/re-installs, multiple copies of DLC, etc. It's complicated...) PM me if you want technical details of what/how I did what I did.

Thank you Thandal. I really appreciate you sharing your time and experience. Essentially I was weighing the risks between buying the UE versus buying Awakening and skipping out on the other DLC. If I decide to get the UE I'll surely follow your advice and, if things get hairy, PM you. Thank you again.

Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition is for the people that obviously havent played Dragon Age: Origins yet or have been blind enough not to notice such a great game! It is also there to serve the purpose to make more Money for Bioware and EA! The more Money the duo make the better the game we play!

It's funny how for some people it is so important to play games or see movies as soon as they come out. i guess it is a product of good marketing. But if you really want to play it right away for whatever reasons: to talk about it with friends, chat about it here or just plain old because you feel like it, well I guess you want it so bad that it is worth the extra money.

For me, Ultimate Edition was the cheapest way to get all the remaining DLC. If it had separate codes, I would have given some away to friends, but alas, no such luck. Still, it was a great price. Witch Hunt did exactly what I expected it to, leave my hungering for even more.

Ok, so i ordered the Ultimate Edition. When i have the Ultimate Edition, how do i register all the DLC's in this online profile? I have registered Origins and Awakening for PC, but where to put the code from the DLC's to be registered?

you don't have to redeem your DLCs, just look on at the game menu and you'll see "downloadable content" and they will be ready to install (if you installed the ultimate edition correctly). install it and then you'll be able to play!

when i first installed my ulitimate edition, something glitched and none of my DLCs were installing. i had to uninstall and reinstall the whole game, but  my DLCs showed up perfectly after that.

Well... the process is a multi-step one.  The instructions are included, and there are two seperate codes involved.  One is the basic game's CD-Key, (found at the top of the back cover of the user's guide)  the other is the DLC "authorization" code (found a slip of paper inserted in the case.  Looked like an advert to me and I almost missed it!)

All the DLC is included on the discs and installs with the basic game, so you just need to get it authorized and you'll be good-to-go!

thandal quick question about the addins folder, can't you back that up uninstall the old version of the game, install ue then just add the addins folder back to the correct location?

Well, since the UE puts the DLC in a different folder, I went through the directories side-by-side and added back to my newly created "/addins" folder ONLY files that weren't part of the UE materials. In other words, only mods that were packaged as a ".dazip".  Otherwise, you end up with two copies of each of the DLC.
(Which confuses the "Available/Installed Content" system no end. Image IPB )

As a side note, when I got done putting my "custom elements" back, DAMM didn't miss a beat.

Breaking news!  Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition has just hit Mac!  :o

Wanted to share, in case there were any other Mac users out there waiting with bated breath for a UE port.  I can't remember the last time I was so excited for a computer game!

Yes, it is.

The place to check is: "/Program Files [(x86)]/Dragon Age/addins/dao_prc_str/module/patch", where you'll find the file "patch000.erf", dated 2010-09-15 (that's a week after the original 1.0 release.)

Not sure I understand.  Are you asking if the CD-Key from the Windows version will work if you install it on a Mac using "WINE", or something like that?

Or are you asking if you bought the Mac version, (just released) could you use the Windows version key anyway?  (Although that opens the question of where you got the Windows key, and why would you want to anyway?!)

I bought the Windows version of the ultimate edition back when it was released. I have a mac and I spend the most of my time in OSX. I'm curious as to wether the cdkey I have for the windows edition would work on the mac edition. A friend of mine is about to purchase the mac edition, and I was wondering if I'm able to just grab the install files from my friend and use my key and keep playing in OSX. It would save me the hassle of rebooting every time.

(OK, this is already over in the "PC Technical Support" forum, but it's kind of buried there and several people have asked about it here.)

I have some help for certain situations when the DLC Content from the PC version of the UE won't "authorize".  This happened to me when I made a completely NEW install of the UE on a completely different drive than my original game.

After installing "successfully", (no error messages) I started the UE version and ALL of the official DLC showed up as "Available Content" (to "Buy"?!?) and ALL of it showed up in my "Installed Content" as "unauthorized".

The problem?  The "daupdatersvc.service.exe" hadn't installed because the folder where it was now located was NOT in the default "/Program Files" path, and so it didn't inherit the appropriate permissions to be a Windows Service.

Once I installed and started the daupdatersvc.service.exe, all my "Installed Content" DLC  was now "enabled" and everythng was gone from the "Available" screen.

Instructions for doing this came from another thread here on the BSN, quoted below.
NOTE:  As stated in the text, the folder paths identified in these instructions are the "default" ones.  You'll have to adjust as required to match your own environment:

....3.2.3. Installing the Dragon Age Updater Service if it's missing.)

For Windows XP :  Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type cmd and press ENTER

For Windows Vista & 7 : Run CMD as an administrator  (as per section 3.1.5 of the original post, see above.)

2.)
Navigate to "C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727"
by performing these commands to do so:
cd..
cd Microsoft.NET
cd Framework
cd v2.0.50727
In case you don't have the exact same .NET Framework version, the Framework path won't work. In that case you perform a normal file search in Windows for the file installutil.exe and note the full path and substitute yours to match.

3.)
[enter the command] installutil "C:/Program Files (x86)/Dragon Age/bin_ship/DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe"
Make sure to use the path where your game is actually installed,  (something like "C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Dragon Age" for Steam, for example)

[enter the command] net start DAUpdaterSvc

You could also copy installutil.exe in your Dragon Age/bin_ship/ folder and simply dragging
"daupdatersvc.service.exe" on installutil.exe. As you can see it's way too hard to list all the possibilities here. It shouldn't be to hard to adapt this to your specific folder locations for most users.

Worked for me! Image IPB

I've just gotten the UE version of dragon age via. Steam and I'm having this exact problem. However since I got it through Steam, I don't have the folders I need to to the above. I spent two hours in chat with an EA supporter trying to fix this, and it just didn't work (I suspect he wasn't paying attention because he kept giving solutions not possible because of the Steam download). Maybe I was tired after this but I couldn't find anything for my exact problem in this topic either.. Can anyone please help me with what to do?Image IPB
