Howdy all!

So, I was really bored yesterday. I decided to go through some
of my old stuff to see what I could throw out, and found a pack of Star Wars
trading cards. I thought it would be cool to have a similar game from the Mass
Effect universe, so I created a few such cards, basically copying the design
from the SW ones, but using parts of ME2 interface.

I’m aware there already is a ME card game, but I took a
different approach. Simply put, the game would be very similar to Star Wars
TCG, though with a bit simplified rules. On the other hand, I’d appreciate any
suggestions on how to make the game different – and, of course, better.

EDIT - I figured I should change the first post to be more "representative", so here goes.

There will be a few different card types - again, this is very similar to SWTCG. Some examples:

Units
a) Good/Paragon

B) Neutral

c) Evil/Renegade

Abilities, Missions, Equipment, etc.

So, what do you guys think? Is it worth to continue and make
a full set? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Wow...those are beautifully made! I've outgrown TCGs, so I can't make any concrete contributions, but don't give Bioware anymore ideas, I've spent more money that I ever wished on ME content as it is!

Edit: the legion card failed to load fully.

Thanks a lot! I can post more, if you're interested - I've created around 25 of them already.
Legion loads fine for me, but I'll reupload if it keeps giving you trouble.

OK, here's a few more: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

And a little bonus - rendered scene with a promo card, featuring my own Shepard. Like I said, I was really bored :)

So, I changed the first post to actually show some cards. I'd really like to hear your opinion, guys. Suggestions, even more so.

You should find a guy with skill to make a freeware multiplayer game for this. You could check the Game Maker forums.

Good idea - thanks, Phaedon. It would be like the Magic game, which I tried just yesterday. I liked it, even though I don't know a thing about MtG.

maybe some people could get together with Wizards of the Coast and Bioware to make something like this. Also, you have to have some type of throwdown card, you cant have 4 garrus and 3 talis running around, it doesnt make sense. so have like Alliance Soldier and Turian Marine and Quarian strike squad and Asari Comandos. Man, i just saw this like for 2 minutes and im already thinking about how this could work. DARN YOU STRIKY!. now i am going to be obsessed with making this work. China as printers? No, too risky. like to use lead paint. hmmm...

O, and special Promo cards like what you put for your Commander. you could buy something like that by sending in a pic of your shepherd and like $20 and they would special make that or something along those lines... Pine wood? No. too weak for case, must be harder.... hmmmm oak maybe....

Yes, I would love to see a game like this made by professionals. Maybe we'll even see it eventually, now that the ME movie is in the making.

I'll have the rules written down soon, and don't worry - I'll try to make sure it makes sense. Upon Phaedon's suggestion, I've registered at Game Maker forums and got a response within 15 minutes, so you might actually see an online ME card game coming.

Oh, and the case texture is mahogany - only the best for Shepard. I still have that scene somewhere around on my harddrive, so if anyone wants, send me a screenshot of your Shepard and I'll make another render just for you.

edited for typo's

Well, you could help making sprites for the game, but at this point, I don't even know what it's going to look like. OR you could help me out by taking hi-res screenshots from DLC packs like Zaeed, because I don't have that one. I've already included Kasumi, so it's only fair that Zaeed gets his share.

I will try my best, need to buy a capture card anyway. i have a friend who is also a good h@x0r and i bet he can get a lot of good hi res screen shots. considering he has the pc version. Also, idea. Planet Cards. i thot of a way to integrate them into game play. If you ever played yougioh, it kinda stemmed off of it. there is a spot in the middle of the battlefield that is the current planet you are fighting on. default no card is just a plain old planet like eden prime or such. you are only alowed 4 planet cards in your deck because there can only be either one or two planets in play at once (i havent relly decided on 1 or 2). Example. if you put Virmire out, all krogan cards get a +5 to health but must attack every turn (because they are "brain washed"). You said you have played MTG. Another thing i was thinking about is something like land cards, only they are colonies. you have to have production to put out units or use ability cards. there are special colonies that give more production but take production to put on the field. Is it ok if i use your posted cards to make other cool ones?

o and by the way, not to bash you or degrade you in any way, on the dragons teeth card you made, when tali said that, she was Tali'zorah nar Rayya

3 more things, can you send me a copy of the rules you have made?

should you label on the card which numbers are health, power, and ? (i dont remember what the last one is) with like H, P

May i add you as a friend, striky?

I think she already was vas Neema when she said it on the derelict Reaper, wasn't she?

The rules are still work in progress, but when I finish it, I'll post it here. I'd thought about labeling the numbers, but it didn't look good, no matter where I put those letters. Anyway, the numbers are Cost, Power, and Health.

Sure you can add me, James. I'd be honored :)

EDIT: Sorry, missed your previous post. I don't have Planets or Lands, but I have Missions. There can only be one Mission deployed at a time, and they provide bonuses for certain types of units. If your opponent wants to deploy their own Mission, they can - but they have to pay more points to get rid of yours, first.

I'm a bit worried about copyright... I guess it's not okay to create a free online game named "Mass Effect - Trading Card Game", is it? By the way, changing the name wouldn't actually do anything, because I still use a LOT of content from ME on the cards themselves...

If Bioware's policy hasn't changed during the last 3 months, then, as long as you don't make any profit -or make them lose money- they are OK with it.

Good to hear! I have to thank you again for the idea, Phaedon - the game's being worked on and it looks promising.

we can use the online tcg as basicly both the real thing and a test run for solid state cards. i love MTG. collect millions of the cards and have hundreds of the old pokemon, yougioh, and starwars cards. i have been playin trading card games for around 15 years and would love to help this come to reality and make a few sugestions for the rules (cuz i can name 5 things in MTG right off the top of my head that would make it a million times better, and its been around for well over 25 years

also, mission cards. you could include them but have a few REAL missions cards. i really can think of one right off my head but take a look at an old game called "Dread Pirate". it was an old board game but had alot good of card aspects with it.

i used james shepherd as my profile name because my first shepherd from ME1 was James Shepherd. lol

Yeah, that's the one. I have had two replies so far, we'll see how it turns out. If you can work in GM (as I can't), I won't turn down any help.

yah, its been well over 4 years since i last used Game Maker, so i aint even gonna try again. maybe i can get Mass Effect 2 to work in Garrys Mod so i can take some super HD pictures in any pose that you want with millions of different items and back grounds. if you dont know what garrys mod is, just google it. its a very famous steam sandbox.

Strikey, what program are you using to make your cards? i found a program that has potential to makin the cards easier. remember, i said POTENTIAL. im looking into it. also i think i found a way to label the power, cost, and health. change the background color. health= red, power=blue, and cost=gold. so you dont have to remember which number is which when you glance at the card.

and its good to have you aboard on this Phadeon. all we need now is a person with a commander shepherd profile pic.
