I gotta ask, what the heck is with the character limit (for the 360)?! It will only let me make one character per origin! When I tried to make a male character of an origin I've already done, it said I reached the character limit! Mass Effect sure didn't have this problem!
And back when Mass Effect came out, I had asked someone about a possible character limit, and I was told, "Bioware would never try to tell you how many characters you can make! That would be stupid." Well they are now, and I'm pissed.
Is this the kinda thing that's gunna be fixed in a patch? Or am I gunna be stuck deleting characters when I wanna try another gender?
Character Limit?!

Are you trying to make them with the same name?
#4
Posté 11 novembre 2009 - 10:44

No.....None of you seem to understand....They all have very different names, different genders, different Origins. But today I tried to make a new female Noble, and it said I've reached the character limit, and would have to delete one of my characters to make a new one. It said that every time I clicked the 'New Game' button.

I've seen this problem before. Your copy of Dragon Age has developed free will, and apparently it doesn't like you very much.
Unfortunately, it seems the only way to solve this problem is to change the game's opinion of you. Try giving it gifts, agreeing with it, and making decisions that fit your game's moral alignment.
If all else fails, you can try hiring someone from the modding community to brainwash your disc.

Ugh....you can delete saves and characters all you like through the System Settings menu from the dashboard and then selecting Memory and the HDD where you can find the DAO file and delete away.

I know how to delete saves. What I have a problem with is effectively being forced to delete one or more of my current characters entirely if I ever want to make new ones. It's silly, as the original poster pointed out.

...
Were you trying to use a really long name, IE, one which contains too many "characters" and is thus beyond the "character limit"?

Heh, That would be very funny. Each letter in your name is a character, fitting into what Inarai said.
It may be telling you to do a smaller name.

Why can't they just put hidden numbers on each character creation, so that even if they have the same name and class they are different. That would be a work-around for the files having dominance in the loads with the same name.

Do you have enough storage space left on yor console for saves?

I use just 3 save slots (PC version here), saving in order of oldest as newest over-write per character. My characters are of a different class same names. I'm not sure how it saves them though, like say 2 warriors same name and how that works in a file save. The switch character option is a cool feature, given that it maintains the saves separate per character. If there is a limit on number of characters, that seems odd. Unless they plan to make this an MMO at some point. MMO's tend to have limits on character amounts.

Yup, definitely a character limit, got the same message today.
Don't think its save related either, although the number of saves per character is limited too, which is fairly logical. Its not logical to limit a players options in experiencing every character/gender/scenario in the game.

Wow! It is rather odd that there is a character limit for a single player game.
You should be able to back up your character folders to a safe place though and delete one in the Dragon Age saved game folder so you can make another character and still keep all your characters though.

How many characters do you have? I have a 360 and I had 10 no problem before i cleaned up my saves down to 4.

actually for the 360 there IS a limit, 10 seperate characters, no matter the origin/class. However, with xbox now supporting usb drives, you could always transfer a few to a usb, make more characters, and simply switch them around as you wish to play them. Or you could make 10 characters and simply play through the game multiple times with each, selecting different outcomes. Finally, why would you need more then 10 characters anyway? lol

This character limit is really annoying. I came across it on my 360 a couple of times too. I was forced to delete a character when I wanted to start a new. Where the heck is the sense behind this whole character limit thing?
Anyway, I'm glad for the USB-support, so now I finally can try more things out without being forced to delete a character again.

ok I dont see how the USB helps here, as character saves are locked, so all you can do is a full system back up... in other words you would need 2 seperate console instals to have more then 10 chars... And for those of you who think 10 is enough, just to point out to you; Dragon age Awakening will allow you to use those characters also, but they cost a new slot, and no... awakening does not use a seperate save function... so your 10 just got cut to 5, or you can move them over and delete the origins one.
Basically if you have 10 chars already you need to delete one to even play awakening at all.
so if Anyone has a work around for this, I would apreatiate it!
