I did not experience the issue during my first playthrough (human noble warrior), experienced it once during my second playthrough (city elf rogue), my third i'm gonna start a dalish elf mage..i did use the selectparty command however...so i'm definitely not gonna do that in my third playthrough..so when I get to that I can confirm wether or not the command console had something to do with the buggy Oghren encounter.

So, who is experiencing this problem without using any console commands (as they have a habit of breaking the game)? I'd like to investigate this further as we've heard other reports similar to this but I'm hoping to get some kind of consensus on the steps leading up to this particular bug.

Well,

After getting through to the entering deep roads part, I had Ogrhen come up & join my party. It seems that the select party console is very dangerous to me...

I haven't used any commands or otherwise modified the game.

I started a female city elf rogue. I believe I had the same issue with Shale not joining my party (though didn't want to use him so didn't notice till now).

As far as the dwarf. I spoke with him at the inn first. Did some quests in the city, went to the mines -- he showed up, and I said he could come along but no party selection screen came up -- didn't know it should -- and proceeded into the deep roads. Coming out of the deep roads after clearing it all out and not being able to find/get anywhere I found him standing outside and will only tell me to sod off at this point.

Not knowing there was an issue I saved over my save I made when I went into the deep roads the first time.

Ug, I had a save right before meeting him prior to the deep roads -- an autosave. But the autosave in the deep roads pushed it off of the list!

The options I chose in the conversation with him were documented though -- 1, 4, 2, 1, 3, 2

The conversation ends at that point and I walk into the deep roads. I have the save in the deep roads if need be.

There's a way to get passed this. Unfortunately you'll have to force cheat Oghren into your party by using the "runscript zz_addparty Oghren" command just before you go to the Deep Roads.

When you've done that you'll go to the party select screen; just click accept (without clicking on Oghren) and he'll pop up. Go back in to your party select screen and deselect him and click accept - you need to do this because otherwise Oghren does nothing. He won't talk to the gate commander and I assume he won't talk when he needs to in the Deep Roads. Anyway, when you go back to the party screen he'll be there. Just select him like you would any other time. Unfortunately you won't get his greeting conversation, but you will get him.

This didn't work for me. I got Oghren fine... but he never does anything. Cleared the two locations I can get to in the deep roads again, and Oghren never did anything. Is there a way just to bypass this quest or something? I'm getting tired of running through the deep roads trying to make something happen-- 4th time now.

I think I figured out what your problem is. When you use the "runscript zz_addparty Oghren" command, he gets added as a fifth member, and the game considers him to still be "in camp" if he's the fifth member. You won't be able to activate any of his skills (though he uses them in combat), and he won't talk to anyone or anything, since the game thinks he's just not there.

Load a savegame before you go to the Deep Roads, run the command to add Oghren. Leave Orzammar and go to your camp. Oghren should be in your camp, though he refuses to talk to you if you try. Exit camp, and select him normally as you would another companion. When I did this I got a VERY weird dual-toon bug with Oghren in camp (he was basically showing both his 'selected' and 'unselected' stances.)

Take Oghren along with two other party members and go into the Deep Roads. He won't talk to the gate guard, but oh well.

As soon as you enter Caridin's Cross, Oghren should say something about never thinking he'd ever see it again. If he does that, you should be good. (another good test is that right ahead in Caridin's Cross is a party member trigger, and hopefully it'll trigger an Oghren conversation.)

I just did all this, and he opened Ortan Thaig for me without any trouble. I don't know whether he'll ever talk to me in camp, but all I really care about is that he gets me through the Deep Roads, because apparently I can't win this war without the damn dwarves. :)

Actually, I got him in the party (as the 5th as you mentioned) used the party select button, removed everyone from my party, then added him normally so I had a functioning group of 4 as expected.

Upon entering Deep roads, I could already go to Ortan Thaig or Caridin's Cross.

Going to the cross, Ohgren didn't say anything, but did get trigger the party conversations with him and Wynn, more than once. So it knows he's in the party, but the quest triggers aren't triggering.

So I've cleared out the Cross and Thaig (not knowing where he should trigger anything) and still get nothing.

I have a feeling I just have to restart the game since I no longer have any saves just before I get him -- only after the bug where he doesn't actually join the party.

[Oh a side note, something similar to this happened with Shale. I never could figure out why he wouldn't come along with me and just stood around in the town instead -- so this is likely a deeper issue. But again, I haven't done any modifying of the game -- save test a dummy level of my own from the toolset (which had nothing to do with the single player game and override dir is empty.)]

Anyone have any suggestions on this? I'm guessing I'll just have to start over, but it should would be nice to be able to progress.

Haha, restarted and now Allister didn't join my party. The other two did... but it seems conversations aren't triggering group adds. Time to reinstall I guess.

Update: Looks like mine was a toolset issue. Removed all game files (and bioware document directory) reinstalled the game. New game. Same issues. Uninstalled the toolset. Started a new game -- works fine.

Having the exact same issue. Oghren appeared in the Diamond Quarters, but never at Tapster's or when leaving for the deep roads to find Branka.

Hi, sorry to hear you guys are having this problem. We'd like to figure out what's going on, can you tell us what steps you took in Orzammar and if you're playing on PC do you have a save game any where in the Orz, preferably right before you entered the Deep Roads without Oghren?

4 months and absolutely no word whatsoever?

Wow. That's.. just.. wow.
Here I was, hoping that you people had just missed this or something.

Spamming the forums with six threads about Oghren and bumping them constantly is called "spam"...

... and will get you banned.

I would hope not. All the threads are relevant and persistant issues for a number of people with very real problems. Just because you're not having the same problems doesn't mean that they're invalid or that everything is nice and tidy.

Now stay on topic, stop cloggin' up the thread or kindly leave.

Stop clogging the thread??

You just clogged the *whole* board!!

It is rude and not helpful to your own cause... Bioware have already responded to you that they are looking into the problem...

You cannot hurry it up with nuisance posts.

Take a breath... and grow up.

Oh, wait, what? Did you see a post I missed? Because I am not seeing something you've obviously noticed. :?

I've taken numerous deep breaths. It's what's stopping me from voicing numerous death-threats and a variety of comments regarding Chris Priestly's mum.
