I was really surprised by the amount of people who stayed "Faithful" to their LI from ME1. Only 43% of people pursued a romance in their main save on ME2

Yep it was a very poor showing from Tali, I was very surprised.

Yep Renegade stat really shocked me - I mean 6%, I would have thought at least 25%

Interesting stuff...

I didn't vote, since I haven't played Overlord and LotSB yet... But I would have been another Engineer. For some reason I tend to have more Engineer Sheps than other classes...

Really wonder at the low number of Renegades tho! Perhaps "Renegade" players tend to consider themselves more as "Paragades"?

Q51 is interesting. Shiala is surprisingly popular, as is TIM (yay! ). Good to see others liking Gianna. Surprising to see Saren not doing better...

And I am starting to feel bad, not for Jacob the character, but to whoever wrote him and his VA. I don't think even Annoyman was this unpopular...

I'm not surprised at all that Mordin is on top.  I didn't vote in the survey, but I too think he is the best character in Mass Effect to date.  In fact, he is arguably the deepest and most well-written character BioWare has ever created.  Not only is he funny and idiosyncratic, but he forces confrontation of deep ethical and moral issues that have no clear ‘right’ answer.  The one question that this survey was missing was how many people saved or destroyed the genophage cure, which I still think was the toughest decision in either the first or second game.

Not tough for me.

I always destroy the cure, even with otherwise super Paragon characters.

But that doesn't detract from Mordin, his character, and his issues. He is the best character of ME2, and just might be my #2 of both game after Wrex. Great voice actor too! Love that sharp intake of breath thing he does.

Miranda loyalty mission had just as much shooting as Grunts, it just had a touching ending. Alot of people like Grunts becuase Wrex is in it (if he is alive) and becuase almost everyone seems to love the Krogan.

Never felt much for Liara until I play Lair o the Shadow Broker. That DLC is simply awesome and somehow I find Liara more attractive because she has a stronger personality - she somehow looks prettier in the DLC too

Miranda loyalty mission had just as much shooting as Grunts, it just had a touching ending. Alot of people like Grunts becuase Wrex is in it (if he is alive) and becuase almost everyone seems to love the Krogan.

I would say there's also not a whole lot of baggage. Everyone else is dealing with an important person (son, father (father again), sister, daughter, assistant, dead lover) or revenge. Grunt just wants to kill things. Straightforward.

Hmph, fair enough I guess.  Her LM was just what "sold" Miranda to me as a character, so I guess I'm biased.

Grunt's LM, along with Legions', remains my least favorite tho...

I liked it too but I have to say Tali's really stood out for me as something original and a bit different. Like Miranda Jack seems to have suffered in this survey. I couldnt believe she rated so bad as a "Squadmate"

I'm actually not surprised that much by ranking Jack low by "stats". She has her uses, but to me isn't quite as useful a biotic squaddie as Samara or even Thane.

Kaidan and Morinth are the ones who I deem were ranked far too low there. Kaidan especially, is a power house in ME1.

Lol poor Jacob Very interesting survey indeed. Liara, Tali and Garrus get a lot of love. I'm a little suprised that Samara didn't really stand out in any of the polls except in her loyalty mission. Hardly anyone liked her recruitment mission Also the amount of people generally going for Renegade path is suprisingly little. Generally I agree with the results though.

Yes Liara really did do well, and theirs no question that LOTSB endeared her even more to people. Ash and Kaidan appear to have suffered for their attitude on Horizon

Oh, why did I miss this? Anyway, Major Truth great job! That was very interesting to read and to see where my opinion fits or doesn't with the rest.

For example, best Mass Effect "core" mission - I thought about it for a second, but while the Battle of the Citadel is an outsanding end game (one of the greatest in a game), it does have it's flaws in a let-down boss battle. Plus, it's inseparable from Ilos in regards to pacing and story cohesion.

Virmire, though, is absolutely perfect in every sense. Art style, graphics, music, gameplay, tension, dialogue, the best mission from either Mass Effect game. Glad to see it is the most popular choice.

And "yay!" for Garrus!

I only hope someone from BioWare reads this.

By the way, i couldn't open it either, so I just "downloaded" into the browser temp folder and opened it with my pdf reader (Foxit).

EDIT: Man, people sure hate human male squad members, Jacob in particular. And while opinion is subjective, his gameplay use ranked so low? Really? A properly leveled and armed Jacob is a pure killing machine.

Question 49 confirms my suspicion that the forum demographic is slanted in favor of fans of ME1 characters, because those who are still here 8 months after ME2 came out are more likely to have already been present when ME1 came out. That no single ME2-only character comes near the votes for the least popular ME1 character is ridiculous.

Another anomaly: there are more votes for Kaidan as most favorite character than for Garrus. While I personally like Kaidan better than Garrus, that result is so fantastically implausible I'd wonder how it came about if I didn't know forum dynamics.

Regarding the votes for Jack's romance: there are quite a few people who have a strong dislike of certain elements of Miranda's romance while liking her as a character. I don't understand how anyone could rank Jack's romance as better written than Miranda's, but then, I don't buy the whole thing in the first place, so I'm not the best person to ask.

There are also a disproportionate number of women taking part in the poll, 35% as compared to 20% IIRC in what Bioware has published. That will give, for instance, a slant in favor of Kaidan and in disfavor of Miranda. It may also be one factor for the surprisingly low number of Renegades.

As for the Renegades, apart from the factor mentioned above, it's not that surprising. It's hard to play full Renegades without being a jerk to your team and anyone else in ME2 (as opposed to ME1, where there were enough defensible Renegade decisions).

I think people dislike the human team members exactly because they tend to have more depth than the aliens, thus more little things to dislike that color perception. There's also the matter of looks: you can't argue with Garrus' looks, he's simply non-human. It's not a factor in like or dislike. But you can find a dislike for any human team member on terms of look alone - Kaidan? Boring. Miranda? too sexualized, and don't look at her where there are shadows. Ashley? Look at her face from a certain angle and it looks ugly. Jack? No hair and tattos. It's no surprise Tali's so popular, apart from the undeniable fact she's written as likeable - you can't see her face, so she's immune to the most prevalent reason for immediate dislike at first glance among humans.

I'm not; I mean hell, I adore Tali, but Liara had a better written romance, especially thanks to LotSB.  And I do find Liara more useful as a squad member; always have.

And yeah, I know what you mean.  That and the ratio of MaleShep to FemShep; that too surprised me.  Not to mention how many people blew up the base!

Tali's loyalty mission is the highest as a favorite?    THAT'S a shocker!  And no, I'm not being sarcastic!  Again, I adore Tali and romanced her, but I enjoyed Mordin's Samara's and Thane's loyalty missions more than I did Tali's.

Well done, Major; well done!  Looking forward to your next survey!

In retrospect and not to be critical because I think Major Truth did an outstanding job with this survey considering the questions regarding the usefulness of characters it might have been more accurate to have included a question or two about the difficulty level that people choose to play.



Some characters are far more useful on an insanity level than they are on a level of lesser difficulty.

This factor would tend to influence a players perception of character usefulness.

Thats why Kasumi is the best!! No seriously a great survey Major Truth. Agree with what most ppl are saying LOTSB definitely gave Liara a boost.

For Jacob though l think it would be interesting to know the results between genders(obviously both must be low but that romance has to factor in).

Ah the Virmire mission.....well time to play ME1 again. Also I guess I need to use Wrex more lol.
