I can understand why they received so many low scores regarding the romance or usefulness, but sometimes I've got the feeling that people really hate them. LOL

Yes I would agree the human characters do tend to take more ctiticisms then aliens. Kaidan is branded boring, Ashley xenophobic, Miranda promiscuous and I'm not gonna even start on Jacob
For Jacob though l think it would be interesting to know the results between genders(obviously both must be low but that romance has to factor in).
Ah the Virmire mission.....well time to play ME1 again. Also I guess I need to use Wrex more lol.
The ladies were more critical of Jacob then the men, but he was generally disliked by most. I think his average rating as a character was approx 3.6 for the ladies that voted

I always found Kaiden one of the most useful squadmates for any situation. He's got very useful offensive biotics, only lacking in Singularity and Warp, and he's the only squaddie who can get Medicine; Neural Shock can be invaluable for downing a charging krogan Battlemaster. Not to mention the rest of his tech skills. Overall, he's one of the squaddies I use most frequently when playing ME1. He only has pistols so his damage output is fairly low, but his overall crowd control and debuffing more than makes up for it.
He did fantastic at the start of the survey, at one stage the most popular character. He was particularly popular with female gamers

And Kaiden's popularity among female gamers in not a shocker. None at all.

I'm not saying they are bad, but I understand why people don't like them.
I pretty much use Kaidan a lot in early ME1 playthrough, only by level 15 I start to change my squad mates, before this is "Kaidan + one", specially if I'm a soldier.
Jacob is pretty usefull too, I use him a lot, specially with a Adept, Engineer and Sentinel.
But I understand the resons people don't like them.
It's like Miranda, many tell you that she always have to be in your squad.
I don't agree with this, but I can understand it.

I figured this would be the case, but man, Liara really benefited from LotSB. Kaidan and Ash could really use the same upgrade.

Sorry; didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. But yeah, I understand what you mean. I think Jacob is pretty cool and useful myself.

Yeah....I don't agree with how Miri always has to be in your squad. There are times I find her very useful, depending on the mission I'm going to do. I like using everyone as much as I can, which is why I'm upset with how late Legion is accquired. But back on track, I agree with you.

Yeah I think Ash and Kaidans popularity suffered from Horizon. A DLC similar to LOTSB would see that change I think

Well thats probably because Miranda's felt like a James Bond romance at most.Ieldra2 wrote...
Regarding the votes for Jack's romance: there are quite a few people who have a strong dislike of certain elements of Miranda's romance while liking her as a character. I don't understand how anyone could rank Jack's romance as better written than Miranda's, but then, I don't buy the whole thing in the first place, so I'm not the best person to ask.

At the end of the romance shes still a psychotic, morally absent, mass murderer.Gibb_Shepard wrote...
Jack's romance gives me whiplash. She goes from a psychotic, morally absent, mass murderer to a shepard fangirl. Shepard must have some kind of indoctrination abilities, just like his pal sovereign.

Shepard fangirl? She's found someone she can trust. That makes her happy, apparently. You can't make any other claims about how she's changed, because you don't have ME3 yet. If you do somehow have ME3, can you tell me how the game ends? Thanks.

Well, since I'm one of those people you don't understand, I can only try and describe it like this; I wasn't keen on Miranda to start with - she was cold, arrogant and standoffish. Then I rescue her sister and she's pawing at me like I'm the last dress in the shop on prom night. Her climbdown from being so distant to wanting to be close felt like being thrown a bone for doing her a favour. It cheapened the character to me, and stole any sense of Miranda "thawing out" or becoming more approachable, of gradual evolution, just a bam - intimacy please. Jack on the other hand, I helped, and she still didn't seem interested. She was her rude, abusive, braggadocio self (though maybe I started off an a more accepting footing because I never really bought her attitude as any more than a front). More conversations revealed vulnerabilities and fears (not really par for the course emotions for a real psychopath), a small change in perspectives due to interaction with Shepard without total character reversal, and because these came after her loyalty mission it gave her a sense of changing and developing. By the time the romance arc reached its conclusion with Jack, it just felt like it had more depth than Miranda's had. You learned a lot more about her too than you did with Miranda - I mean, who the hell is Miri's father after all? What did she do in the years between running away and leading the Lazarus cell? With Jack you get a whole patchwork of past events that illicit empathy. And at the end of the day, I've known people like Jack (minus the killing, granted) and been able to relate to them (or at the very least understood them a little). I've never known anyone like Miranda and not wanted to throw my shoes at them, but this is in part due to the fact I can't relate to her beyond caring about her sister's welfare.
All the romances seem very rushed; only Jacob's and Jack's seemed to have a meandering path in their post-loyalty conversations (we'll ignore "the priiize" part though, even though I didn't mind that so much - I've had guys say a lot worse to me before now) so there's just not enough time to draw out the getting-to-know-you part of the relationship. For me, there just wasn't enough of it for Miranda. The rub for me now though is the LotSB dossier has given Miranda more depth; I can now understand her a lot better and empathise with her more. I really do hope the character evolves further in the next game, because as much as I didn't care for her romance, there were elements of her character I liked. Sure, I like Jack more from moment one, so my opinons are appropriately coloured, but hopefully that can give you an idea why I voted the way I did (and maybe why other people did too). Miranda resonates more with you, so you got more from the romance than I could.

Great survey; I expect Liara benefited a ton from LotSB. Hopefully, Bioware will take a look at these, even if they are a relatively microcosmic sampling.
i hope they won't...well at least look at them and improve the chars that didn't do well

I wonder what the results would have been like before LotSB... I think that got a lot of the older fans who were upset excited about her again and made the newer fans of the franchise become interested in her. I also think that the DLC skewed the "rate the romance" a bit... Because w/ Liara you have extra content over all other LIs. And compared to Ash/Kaidan you get a sortof "happy ending" for ME2.

when you condense them all into a pithy one-sentence sum-up, they aren't - in fact they all unfold similarly.

If not... and one day, Shepard disappears. All that remains is a crater on a moon. Some say that they saw a space station flying towards the moon.

I just hope that if Shepard does return to a ME1 romance after romancing Jack Bioware keep her reaction in character. It will be explosive
