For the most part I haven't run into any accuracy issues with the phalanx. It missed a clear hit on one of my comparison vids but I haven't had any issues in regular gameplay.
Yeah, I can honestly only say maybe a couple times was I pretty certain I got a headshot and felt like it either missed or didnt count as a headshot.
Its different, as far as aiming and trying to use it while moving, and really is not very effective at mid range (ie tempest/avenger/evi/gps), but up close you dont need the laser, just put an enemies head between all 4 points of the crosshairs and pull the trigger.
I guess since getting it I've NEVER looked back and used any other pistol. Love the higher ammo count(30) than the Carnifex (18), more damage than either... sure the ROF is slower, but I guess I dont put myself in a position using it that often that I need to fire ridiculously fast anyway, more of a precision based weapon.
To be honest, *if* it was possible to laser mod any weapons, I'd probably mod the locust and the mattock, not because I like it, but because I think it would probably make them a little less overpowered. Though I'm sure once I actually did do it, I'd want to switch right back.
Anyway, I like the Phalanx alot... seems others dont, but its been one of my favorite additions (especially in terms of really making a gun "feel different")

Am I the only one who absolutely hates the laser sight? Short and long range it works fine, but anywhere in the middle and the sight just doesn't show up. Might just be me, who knows.
It is actually for the lasersight alone that I never use the Phalanx on any character. It is the worst thing that gun has to offer. I'll give it to my squadmates, but I will stick to the Carnifax pistol tyvm.

It would cool if there was a laser sight modification for your weapon in ME3, making it optional
I'd be fine with that so long as it worked like it does for the Phalanx, in that where you point it shoots. In otherwords "Laser sight = 100% Accuracy"
Given the fact that I think we all can agree using the laser sight doesnt increase your DPS, but it does increase your accuracy, I think that'd be a fair enough mod.

I'd have to disagree with that statement. Crosshairs and Laser sight are two very different aiming styles.Ares Caesar wrote...

With the laser sight you're focusing on your intended target (to confirm the location of the laser's bead), making your aim go to the target.
With the crosshairs you're focusing on the reticle itself, ensuring the CoF is on top of your intended target, making the target come into your line of fire.
Much like iron sights/Holographic sights and lasers on real weapons. Neither is 'better' in the overall scheme of things, they're just different means to the same end.

Actually, lasers can well be better in real life. If your laser sight is properly zeroed you will hit where the laser is regardless of how you are holding the weapon, with iron sights if you aren't looking through them at the same angle each and every time your sight picture will change and as such your aim will be off.
Which is a situational difference.
In a proper stance and with disciplined movement iron sights are more effective in CQC.
As I said, on the level they're equal, each has strengths/weaknesses in certian situations. Just like comparing anything that isn't chess or checkers.

I didnt so much mean in real life sentiments, more just that I think most here agree that if we're talking multiple targets and which will take them down faster, typically the crosshairs (AS IT APPLIES TO MASS EFFECT ONLY), are going to be quicker... perhaps not nearly as precise or as efficient with ammo, but generally you're gonna do more damage per second across multiple targets. Where as the laser sight allows you to designate death upon a precise point, but pretty much means you're not going to be quite as quick in doing so across multiple targets.
Of course if anyone actually is willing to tell me they're quicker with the phalanx than the carnifex (assuming damage was similar upgrade wise), and show me a video, I'll be happy to change my sentiments on it... and this is coming from a guy who PREFERS the Phalanx (because I know what I like it for, and what I like it for it works particularly well).
I'm just saying I think if allowed as a weapon mod, which gave you the laser sight(LS=100% accuracy) instead of the crosshairs, I'm sure we'd find that aiming and taking down multiple enemies would be quicker with the crosshairs, vs trying to use the laser sight. Again, I'm ONLY referring to its application in mass effect.
*Edit Add* - I'm saying I'd take the laser sight for certain weapons because damage per second ISNT EVERYTHING. If you have adequate cover, and enough distance between you and the enemy, using the laser sight wont be as fast, but you'll likely take a bit less damage in the process, because each shot will be well placed, and then you simply return to cover, get in proper position (its pretty easy after using the LS enough to know about where you'll be aiming when you pop out of cover), pop up from cover get LS placed on designated point, fire, and hopefully target went down, you then return to cover.
I hope I'm explaining why I think each one has its values and why I think it'd be fair to let players choose between having laser sights or cross hairs. Each one has its positives and negatives, and I think the trade offs are fair enough.

Maybe its just me, but aim time with the laser is higher for me than crosshair or scope. Its probably because of the startup time the laser has and the fact that it works poorly with cover. I always used laser pointer for crysis as it was always on. Its probably the constant switching between crosshair and laser sight that kills it for me in this game.
Same here, however I dont use it in any mid range situations where the enemy also is going to hit with near 100% accuracy on you. As long you're in the longer distances (just within power use), the enemies arent 100% hit rate accurate, and you usually have a small amount of time to line up the shot and place a couple bullets inside your targets brain, typically dropping most things outside heavily protected mini bosses or krogans.
Of course I dont EVER use it while "Run N Gunning" as the sight bobbing makes it difficult to use it with precision. It simply makes my pistol like an extra sniper, and thats how I think you should view it.
Just my opinion. Again, maybe others have better/different uses, but I guess the laser sight as far as mass effect application goes, I find just turns guns with limited ammo into extra sniper rifles. (Only the Phalanx in this case)

how about getting the vipers scope, or the locusts muzzle, or the GPSs build-up too?
*sniffs* If thats sarcasm I'm smelling, I actually say "why not?"
Of course if you're talking about say the GPS build up, I say "why not" in that so long as it has a tradeoff negative (perhaps reduced ROF and limited ammo count)... ammo and weapon mods in ME1 often did things to improve a certain effect while reducing another.
So long as no "mod" is totally overpowered, just allows you to deal damage in different ways, I dont see why certain aspects shouldnt be allowed to improve other guns.
Its just about creating different gameplay dynamics... of course I doubt we'll even get weapon mods in ME3 simply because mods create so much more balancing, and I'm sure Bioware isnt interested in trying to level all the possible variations of dynamics that mods would create.

Isn't the point of a lasersight in real life is to simulate the crosshairs we often see in video games?
It's essentially there to make up for bad technique whether it be because the technique itself is bad because of the circumstanes in which you find yourself. When using iron sights the angle at which you look at the sights and see the target is called your sight picture. If you look through the sights from a different angle it will throw your sight picture and thus your aim off. Which is why when training with say an M16 you're trained to put your cheek to the cheek weld in the exact same spot even single time (I put my nose to the charging handle) in order to maintain a good sight picture. With a laser sight you bypass the sights all together and simply place the dot on your target and pull the trigger. Of course this only works if the sight itself has been properly zeroed and if it hasn't be dislodged or moved in some way since that's been done.

I don't use lasers on any of my social guns, they all mount a white light and Aimpoint co-witnessing the irons.
The most value I've gotten from lasers is utitlizing them as a training tool in analyzing and correcting glitches in new shooters' trigger pulls.
The green beams are actually quite visible in bright light environments.

not being sarcastic at all. i love weapon mods, who doesnt. if bioware sticks with the standard issue weapons then i dont see a need for mods. but if they switched back to a system more like ME1s, i would absolutely love that. i liked the variety adding some mods added to the weapons specific function. whther you you wanted a quick fireing weapon or a one shot one kill weapons, mods allowed us to vary our weapons with a simple switch. "finding" weapons in ME2 is rediculous. if im finding the best SMG on some sidequest that has no meaning or point to anything other then stumbling across it, ill puke.
i really hope bioware goes back to overheating weapons, and even relies on some kind of weapon modding again too. i think creating an inventory puts more value in having money becuase i can buy interesting mods instead of buying fuel for the normandy.

Just take a look at real men now: John Matrix, John Spartan, John Rambo, Dutch, Douglas Quaid...
None of them needed a laser sight. Real men simply doesn't.
