Hello,
I've come here to the forum to get help on an annoying patch/installation issue.
I've been trying to install all the patches to my NWN2+MotB+SoZ fresh install, and whenever (and after...) I apply the 'nwn2_pcx2_english_ from1211549_to1221586.zip' patch, NWN2 won't load after the nwloader starts. I see the intial splash screen for "Neverwinter Nights 2, Storm of Zehir", (with Play, Toolset, etc...) I select 'Play', then the game quits out. What I also noticed is that after applying this patch, the computer doesn't access the DVD drive when loading (which it did before when I applied the previous patches). I'm assuming that this particular patch is somehow killing off the 'seek DVD' command, or something like that.
So, here is my process (let me know if I've done something wrong):
1. Installed NWN2 (played the game for a second).
2. Manually applied patches up to 1.10 (nwn2_pc_english_from106973_to106980.zip) (played the game for a second)
3. Installed MotB (played the game for a second).
4. Installed SoZ (v. 1201541, played the game for a second (noticed the missing audio!))
5. Installed nwn2_pcx2_englishvofix_from1201541_to1201541 (played the game for a second...glorious sound!)
6. Installed nwn2_pcx2_english_ from1201541_to1211549.zip (played the game for a second)
7. Installed the nwn2_pcx2_english_ from1211549_to1221586.zip (failure to load game)
After installing the nwn2_pcx2_english_ from1211549_to1221586.zip patch, it chokes on the splash screen after I select 'Play'...am I'm just SOL?
Any help here?
Thanks is advance,
Steve
P.S. - I'm running on Bootcamp using Win XP SP2 with a GeForce 9600 GT card, DirectX 9c and 30 GB of free space.
Applied patch disabling NWN2+MotB+SoZ

One of the patches removed the need to have the disk in the drive, hence your drive no longer running on game start up. That is supposed to happen so no worries.
For the other stuff, check the 4th and 5th post of this posting.

Thanks Knightmare. So, you're essentially saying: "reinstall" ??

Hello,
OK, I followed the instructions to a "T", and after quitting the SoZ installer, opening NWN2 and selecting update, the updater updated the autopatcher, then restarted.
The autopatcher reconnected, then returned this error:
Pinging: nwn2patch.obsidianent.com
Retrieving autopatcher version information
Connecting...nwn2patch.obsidianent.com
Downloading nwn2_pc_autopatch.txt

Can not find patch file: /nwn2_pcx2_modfix.txt
For assistance, please visit Atari's support web page.

The patch has been aborted
Should I begin a manual install of the patches, based on this procedure:
Instructions:
1. Download all the patches and unzip them into the same folder to get the RTP files.
2. Download the NWN2 Patcher and unzip it. Run the Patcher.
3. Put all the patches into the queue with "Use Queue". Watch the correct order. (Just to make sure, I don't know if this is neccesary.)
4. Apply the patches. Don't interrupt the patcher.
5. If all is well, the game is now updated to 1.023.1763 (FINAL), June 9th, 2009.
6. Start the game, and verify the version in the lower left corner.

If you follow those instructions, exactly as written, you should not have a problem. I have tested and re-tested the same instructions through Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems many times and have never had a problem installing and updating.
If you are having issues still, I would look to my system and configuration. Please, Post your full System Information as requested...

Thank you SM for lending your advice. The instructions for installing are straightforward and quite easy to follow(install, run game, install, install, update). I am confidant i did the install perfectly.
But what I am still looking to get answers to are these (now) 2 issues:
1. The disabling of the program launcher after manually installing the "to_1221586" patch, which seems to prevent nwn2 from accesing the dvd(it works just fine with the previous patch).
2. After following your instructions for installation, the autopatcher returns an error from the Obsidian server...and i cant tell if the missing file is on their server or missing from my installation?
Is there anything wrong with manually patching, if the Obsidian server isn't updating my program?
As it stands, with the installation of nwn2 gold + MotB + SoZ, I can play the game just fine...but only until I manually patch it.
I will post my system config shortly, but any ideas about my 2 issues specifically would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the custom patcher for NWN 2 wound in the Neverwinter Nights 2 Vault or simply copy the zipped files to the Neverwinter Nights 2 and run the Updater, the latter mathod requires you disconnect from the Internet. The patch files can be downloaded from http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=230 or http://nwvault.ign.c...er.Detail&id=19
If you are installing only NWN 2 and MoTB, you should be using the update files designated as nwn2_pcx1. If installing SoZ then you should be using the files designated as nwn_pcx2. It should be noted that Patch 1.23.1765 disables SecuROM and no longer requires the DVD be inserted to play the game.
A concern I do have with your specs is that your system appears to be a laptop and your GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) may not be up to par for SoZ, since the minimum card is roughly the n800, where n = 6, 7, 8, or 9. Officially, laptops are not supported as per information posted at http://social.biowar...3116296#3139509
Additionally, it is my recommendation that you have at least 20GB of free disk space after the game and expansions are installed to allow for updates and game play.

Oh, that laptop is quite enough, Selene. I play NWN2 on a much older version and it runs great with mid-settings even in native resolution, and that's a 8600M GT with just v256MB. The 9600M GT he has is up for the task, I'd even dare to say at full settings.
The driver version looks kinda old though, but anyway, I think it's not a problem with the system, but with the silly game patcher. Oh, and I'd update Bootcamp to the latest drivers and install XP's Service Pack 3.

I just reinstalled on Bootcamp with XP SP3 yesterday. The order I install is:
- Install NWN2 OC
- Install MotB
- Patch
- Install SoZ
- Patch
Haven't had any problems with this order.
To uninstall prior to reinstalling I delete Atari and Neverwinter Nights 2 folders and then run the install from the DVD and take the uninstall option.
Has worked for me several times (more times than I care to count actually).
Regards

Hello,
Thanks for all the respones, but after determination and luck of the D&D gods, I found an answer that solved my problem.
After searching and searching the old Bioware forum board for NWN2, I found this thread that referenced my particular problem:

There seems to be a major bug with the German Patch and oc+motb installed.
Everytime you try to start the game, the load-splashscreen appears and then nothing happens.
Clicking on nwn.exe (or any other exe that normaly start the game) causes an error with the hint to install the game new.
I've tried this 2 times, everytime the same error.
Has anybody an Idea what's happening there?

ok, found the error with help of tanita (perhaps someone knows her from her fantastic replug):
If the same error that i posted above goes up (game does not start after patching), make shure you got at least net 3.0 installed on your mashine.
So, sure enough I updated to Microsoft .NET Framworks 3.5 and after updating to patch 1.23, game runs fine.
I don't know if anyone is interested, but maybe in the recommendations for service packs and such, someone should list having .NET frameworks 3.0 or higher. Or, maybe .NET 3.0 is installed by default in SP3?

I added that information to the Installing NWN 2 topic for installing NWN 2 and subsequent expansion packs.

Sorry for the thread necromancy here, but stumbled upon this thread after having the same issue as the above after trying to install. I started with .NET 2.0 and first tried installing .NET 4.0 and the game still wouldn't get past the splash screen. However, I removed 4.0 and installed .NET 3.5 SP1 and the game works.
Thought I'd let you know. Not sure if anyone else has experienced that same issue.
