Fix those god awful darkspawn designs and i am happy. does anybody else think they look like they are from the ps1 generation?

Exaggeration of the century.

Aye.
I actually like the new Darkys more. Few different armor variations wouldn't hurt though.

Darkys you say, they look more like whities to me.

Not really; i still can't get over the ogres sporting these sexy garter belts and stockings, though.

(given where they come from, makes one wonder about Sten, too)

I'm not worried about graphics in the technical sense. Origins looked great to me. What I'm concerned about is atmosphere, which is a different thing altogether. The first Dragon Age was atmospheric to me and so it was immersive. What I've seen of DA2 so far is a dull grey landscape and dull grey buildings... I hope there will be more beautiful/scary/interesting environments than that. And that doesn't require high-end graphics at all.

Simple answer. Because the graphics is good for a true RPG as DAO was, but not for that hack and slash bulls*** DAO2 is going to be. They did the same in Mass Effect, but at least they upgraded the graphics.

Thank goodness that the game will still be a party-based tactical pause-and-play RPG, then. The actual level of graphics work for that, yes?

I do not see anything wrong with the graphics. What am I?

Sensible.

Darkspawn are said to be humans from Tevinter cursed into these monstrosities. I think the more 'human' approach relates to the chantry lore, and since the chantry, like it or not, plays a huge role in this game. It furthers the proof that there is some relation to the Maker and Darkspawn. Now weather the Maker is a godly being, very powerful or even exists is a different topic altogether.

I thought the awesomeness of Hawke's beard stamped out your guys long ago. It is said that Varric's chest hair made you feint, then when the great Ponytail summoned the hairy bush that is Hawke's beard, you all just vanished... a sad tale ineed.

I'll be happy as long as they fix the human proportions and clipping issues from DAO. I'm not very graphically demanding, but I did find the beards and hands of characters constantly and badly clipping into their armour/bodies/whatever really quite detracting. I'd also like consistent texturing, it can be quite jarring to see a high res, beautifully detailed head on a char, then everything below the neck is a flat pixellated looking mess.

This is a really interesting thread. The responses from both Bioware and from players give some great context and insight into the priorities and perspectives from both parties.

I will say though, that the thread title is poorly worded unless the intent is to get the back up of Bioware posters.

My vote is that graphics don' t matter very much. Final Fantasy XIII was absolutely beautiful, but it got one playthrough and I'm done. Dragon Age was quite a bit rougher, but I've probably sunk 200 hours into it.

Priorities amongst a gamer population gives us lots of options for what we want to buy.

Aren't the Darkspawn supposed to look off this time anyway?

The Blight is over, they are weakened.

At the same time BioWare should take advantage of higher end systems.  I expect DA2 to support Direct X 10/11.

I don't mind the new artstyle, though the ogre doesn't look quite as cool as the DAO version. Honestly speaking though, the darkspawn never looked as scary as the novels described them.

I think DA2 is looking great visually, and I don't see the need to introduce new API features from DX10/DX11. Mind you, I have more than enough power in my rig to handle it, but I don't see it contributing to the game at all.

Obviously a figment of my imagination, as at this point reasonable fans are a product of make believe.

La la la graphics la la la darkspawn.

Every Bioware game I have played looked more than decent+you could enjoy the game on a sub-par computer, why should this time be any different?

I am kind of dissapointed that Chris is denying that the graphics suck.

I know he is a Bioware employee and he needs to support the company and that but seriously, are we playin/looking at the same games?

Mass Effect 1 and 2 were both gorgeous games.

Dragon Age not so much. Its the only thing that I HAD to mod, the graphics. Cos of how poor the textures are.

And the screenies we have seen so far of DA2 it seems like that graphics/textures are really really undetailed. They ARE quite bad at this stage.

But I do keep in mind that the DA2 demo and screenies we have seen so far were from an alpha version of the game and there is another 6 months before the game is released for the game to get really good textures.

Graphics tend to count as "polish" and the polishing generally occurs in the last 3 months of development. So I am not too worried about the graphics sucking so bad. At least i wasnt until I read Chris' comment saying the graphics didnt suck in the demo and screenies. And they patently do. That worries me more.

Well, first, he's probably contractually obligated to not diss Bioware games.

And second, maybe he doesn't think the grpahics suck.

Those alpha screenshots sucked, but in my opinion the new stuff doesn't.

This. Honestly. Imo there has been a huge improvement over the first shown pictures.

It's funny how you say that, considering the obvious low-res textures in armor in ME1, etc. *rolleyes*

Threads about graphics make me think of that episode of family guy when brian dates the hot blonde that isn't too bright and stewie makes fun of him for it.

I don't think they're that bad at all.

for me:

complaining about graphics in a video game is stupid. If you want good CGI, go watch Avatar in HD.

A video game should have tons and tons of content, an engaging storyline, and a fun combat system. Dragon Age: Origins did this all quite spectacularly. And stylishly.

The graphics were NOT THAT BAD. I mean jesus, some of you people are picky :\\
