The ground in Witcher 2 is great and our ground sucks. Your point?

Edit: ground is different from floor, Dhiro. I guess.

Then again, look at The Witcher 2, it has a lot more features than DA2 and much better graphics ...

Indeed.

If the low-res textures are because of limited console VRAM I hope we have higher-res texture options on the PC.  Not sure about the consoles but Mass Effect on PC has lovely high-res textures, so Bioware has done it before.

Don't wear fur. Don't kill animals (with fur I'd suppose)

Ha!
I guess I'm not  the only one who doesn't look at the ground when they play a game?(or at least pay little attention to it)  If I did that in the good old days of Dino Crisis, I'd be Dino Chow x 10.

How about it's a Blightland and thus the ground is supposed to suck?

Oh yeah because ground textures loses resolution when it's got corrupted by the Blight. :>

Environment textures still looks poor. I hope they improve it and make it more detailed.

Its more like Willi Wonka's bubble-gum factory floor.

For chrissakes people, please consider 2 things before assessing graphics.

1. The game is not finished

2. This is an RPG, with boat loads more content than your typical action game. You can't compare a slick 5-10 hr game to a 30 -60 hr epic with interactive cut-scenes, thousands of lines of dialog, a reactive plot, etc.

I'm going to play fortune-teller:

Spoilers!

Thread will be filled with posts about how graphics don't matter, how OP should play other games, how Bioware's strength is in the storyline etc. Smattering of posts that disagree with the majority. Someone tells OP to wait until the game comes out before bashing the game.Rubbish Hero comes in with something about LOTR. Console-bashing. Insults on intelligence. Someone posts a topless picture [unlikely, but this would be great, thanks]. Posts about how Baldurs Gate is awesome. Posts about how Baldurs gate is boring. Posts about Mass Effect 2 and how it was superior/vastly inferior to ME1. Priestly comes in with "Lockdown!" and Devil emoticon. Another thread about the same thing comes up again next week, or even in the next few hours etc because the threads are reincarnated over and over again because Priestly never lets them fulfill their karmic destinies and thus they never escape the thread-cycle.

Disclaimer: My fortune-telling is 100 percent bull****, but provides me with a great excuse to post this hypnotic picture of kittens.

Compare it to the Witcher 2 screen I posted then.

That would be typical, but again allow me to say I agree graphics aren't everything and I am excited for the game either way, I am just disappointed in the graphics.  The game I am playing the most right now is Arcanum and I am most active on the GOG.com boards, a site devoted to old games.  I am not a graphics ****, but I do think a good looking world contributes to immersion and story in a game and I do think 2011 games should look better than the screens I have seen so far.

Slimgrin is openly a Witcher 2 fan as far as I remember.

I found Witcher 1 to be attrocious (the 10 minutes I could stand playing it).
I think I'd still think the same if the graphics were photorealistic.

It's probably not going to have graphics as good as TW2 - few games will. And I'm fine with that because graphics aren't the most important thing for me.

I pray the epic that was TW1 won't be reduced to 20-30 hrs because of those graphics.

I always thought, as a game is being built, they just throw in cheesy place holder textures to test mechanics and level design and such. It gets filled in later as the texture people actually spend time working on the final product textures.

The Witcher 2 ground is quite nice there. I wouldn't be averse to a painterly approach to the ground/distant landscapes in DA2 without having things being hyper-realistic, but I think they're probably going for a certain amount of realism and detail. Might not be enough for some people though. *shrug*

Early reports said TW2 will be about 30 hours long (it won't have fetch quests), but now I've heard they're trying to make it as long as the first

Good to see another thread sort of devolve into a Witcher debate.
