Yep; called the Carta, Lyrium tradesmen, Nobles, etc; anything that lives off of the life blood of others.

Now back to the cheerier side of fantasy.....

I wouldn't mind World of Darkness type vampires. Sadly that's not what most people think of these days when vampires are mentioned.

I mean it! And i love The World of Darkness setting... But guess such vampires would seem rather odd in DA, only as intelligent new breed of darkspawn maybe... With such a side effect for releasing them Posted Image

Vampires were in NWN, I don't see why DA couldn't have them, can't say they'll be out of place but since most of the areas we explore are set in the day time, you wouldn't expect to see them popping up. Perhaps ruins could be the places they pop up in. With that said, the demons are more interesting. I've seen vampires in many other games and after playing the Legacy of Kain series, you just expect the same old same old and if they were in DA, they'll probably just be the ordinary vampires you've seen everywhere else. Demons were different in DA than what you see in other games. Although the type of demons in DA have been done elsewhere.

The Architect almost seems vampiric in the way he dabbles with life essense. He just fails at the whole being so cool when he is working bit.

Possibly one that I can remember, and she was in DAO: Flemeth.

While true you do not get the chance to marry Morrigan, she is the closest to a Mother-In-Law I recall being implemented.... *bazinga*

I hope DA2 has vampires. Since there are vampires in the setting, why not include some? That said, I am a little disappointed that the vampires would be of the om nom nom type, as a dev once desribed it.

omg that would be awesome if da2 had vampires in it and gave us the ability to become a vampire too or get the curse, either way...

that would be so totally epic awesome!

idk if anyone else here has player TES oblivion but it was cool especially with some of the mods for vampires...cool!

if da2 had vampires, just think of all the new possibilties, travel in big cities at night, break into homes of unexpecting people and feed to look normal, then to have different reactions from npc walkin down the street if you look like a vampire, or when you talk to someone they are instantly afraid and adds intimidation, and to have full ambient cities to explore, not just a few random npcs on the map that you can click, and everyone else wont give you but a 1 line excuse or something, granted i know we cant have cut scene conversations with everyone anyway, but to be able to atleast interact with all of them, and stuff, and able to attack basicly anyone (granted needed nps will just get knocked out) and have a jail/fine/guard system for ya, and have a fame/infame kinda thing for most cities, and wow, sorry i got off on a tangent there, but yal know what im getting at, right?

we get plenty of choices in the game, why not have even more options :D

Ah yes, "Vampires". Alledged parasites that people seem to be obsessed with for some reason.

We have staked these claims.

Considering what DA lore 'vampires' are, I highly doubt Hawke will be given the option.

I'd pay money to be able to kill Edward Cullen again and again and again. I'd pay even more money if I could watch Sten do it.

I bet I dont want to know who that guy is and I bet it has to do with this awful crap that made the word "twilight" uncool.

Oblivion vampires gave me bad memories.
I
spend months and months trying to look for the vampire cure, and then I
gave up and decided to make a new character. From then on in Oblivion, I
avoid all vampire infested dungeons.

Agreed, though for completely different reasons. ;)

Besides, there is a way to get rid of the curse in Oblivion ... people able to use Google can find it super fast, too.

But if you actually want to have fun with vampires, try, for example, "Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines" ! ^_^

Compared to that, Oblivion / Morrowind vampires are, well, "meh". No style at all, no story content, and the gained "powers" are super boring anyway.

As a rule, Oblivion is all looks, but content ? Meh. Hardly any storyarcs, no memorable characters, and the same opponents over and over and over and over.

WoD vampires are great because they are so varied. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/cool.png[/smilie]

But really, theres plenty of good types of vampires around.

Just make a real story out of them. Not just "gets an old face and some superflous crappy powers" like in Oblivion.

Ah yes. I remember becoming a vampire in Morrowind. Gave some insignificant buffs, and you could jump a littler higher (that's what I seem to remember anyway). But you would take damage if you were outside during the day, and people didn't like you in the cities anymore. Totally worth it :)

Yes - as someone mentied on the first page of this thread, vampires a people possessed by hunger demons and really mindless and beasty.
I'm a big fan of the World of Darkness, but I don't think, those kind of vampires wouldn't work in the DA universe. As wouldn't Dracula & Co. And I don't even want to mention those sparkling disgraces of the vampire species (although I would gladly play the Anti-Edward Cullen DLC, but I guess, Bioware would be sued into Oblivion (no pun intended) for that by Stephenie Meyers or whoever holds the rights of that bubblegum vampire).
There is however one vampire concept, I would love to see, but it isn't very well known: there is a german fantay writer named Ju Honisch, who writes fantasy novels in steampunk settings. And in her universe, vampires are part of the faes or fairies. Since DA mentions creatures like dryads and such, that could be possible. But I'm not even sure, if the works of Ju Honisch are published in english or other languages and I didn't read about that concept before.

If you think about it, blood mages are vampiric.  They not only use their own blood to power their spells, but they suck the life blood out of their teammates when they get weak, too.  A rose by any other name ...

BTW, no vampires is very very good indeed.  I'm soooo tired of trite derivative settings in fantasy games (and novels, too).  I really would prefer to never see another game with elves, dwarves, vampires, or absurd non-integral magic.  A little creativity just for once would be so refreshing.

If you just MUST have elves & dwarves, please don't make them so damn stereotypical.  The "slave race" aspect of DA elves is a baby-step in that direction.  It's been done many times before, but isn't quite the usual path taken.  The drunken under-the-mountain dwarf thing has been beat to death, though.  So much so, that I love sending Gimli off to die alone to darkspawn while I watch.  Oh, wait, I mean Ohgren.

At least blood-mages aren't outright called vampires and lack virtually all the modern mythos surrounding them.

Dragon Age II already has vampires. They are called Revenants which are based on the old European version of vampires who look like blood drinking zombies. You find them on Sundermount in Act 3. Opps, I'm wrong Dragon age Revenants are demons. sorry.
