Hunger Demons are about close to Vampires as you will see in Dragon Age so far.

I'm rather happy that there are no vampires in DA's world.

They are overexposed, used too much. Werewolves are less frequent and their use sets DA apart from a lot of things.

Of course, seeing as Zathrian was able to create a werewolf curse by binding a spirit to a wolf, I imagine a blood mage could do the same with a common vampire bat. Of course they wouldn't be the traditional vampires, more like giant bat monsters.

I've played both Dragon Age and the Elder Scrolls games and I have to say that they are not similar at all apart from the fact that they're both fantasy RPGs. Sorry, I just had to say it. I'm not trying to be mean or troll or anything. Aside from this I could see Vampires at least being mentioned in the lore in later games and possibly appearing after there is enough lore on the subject.

They should have vampires in DA. I mean it would make sense if a hunger demon possessed a mage turned into a hunger abomination/vampire, or a hunger abomination hunt their prey, and turned their victims into vampires by feeding their victims their blood. They would also the most powerful blood mages in the game. I think they should have mages who are hunted by hunger demons for those who practiced blood magic too often, or summon them to become vampires.

Well, since Lyrium is now known as Titan's Blood, it follows that mages and templars, especially Templars, are vampires. The same goes for Reavers. They just don't feast on human blood, they feast on Titan's blood or dragon's blood.

I don't want to see vampires in DA. We had enough of bad vampire stories the last years (from sparkling to promiscuous and silly) that my taste for vampire stories is sated. The demons/abominations are much creepier than some vampire anyway (maybe with the exceptionof del Toros 'The Strain' were vampirism is a virus - and has very ugly side effects - no sparkling, no emo vamps   - something like that would be ok, but we already have that with the Blight illness)

IIRC, one of the codex entries in DA2 mentions vampirism, but I think it's supposed to be a side effect of possession by a hunger demon.

 

As for sparkly vampires... can't remember where I found this originally (probably somewhere on Facebook, ages ago) but I'll just leave it here....

That necro, phew!   So appropriate for a vampire begging thread. But honestly DA universe =/= Elder Scrolls, I play both IP's and nope don't want vampires in my Thedas.
