My first playthrough was an intentional "don't complete everything" run, but I only ended up with four casualties...

Legion died due to not upgrading shields.

Tali got shot through the head.

Thane died... from the Collector bugs IIRC, or it might have been as a leader of the second team. Can't recall.

Garrus died by not being loyal when the last platform fell.

Heh, IIRC was expecting a much bigger bloodbath. Image IPB

My first play through I was very careful but didn't figure out what which room I had put Legion in and didn't realize what would happen if I didn't go immediately to save the crew. So some of the crew died and Thane died. The crew was the worst.

Many died but I can't remeber who. Miranda and Thane at least, if I remember correctly.

Honest to goodness first game? Started default game (no importing), had Zaeed but no Kasumi (hadn't bought the dlc at the time) sided with Jack and lost Miranda's loyalty, completed other loyalty missions with the exception of Legion's. Lost the crew after the IFF mission and went straight for the Collector's base immediately. Chose Legion and lost 'him'. Only one I lost. Even my unloyal Miranda survived.

I didn't upgrade my ship before heading through the Omega 4 relay. Woops.

Thane, Jack, and Legion went right there.

Then I sent Mordin through the ventilation tubes because I thought he was a tech expert. So, he died.

On my next play through (which I just finished)...I lost no one. I kind of think it loses something though. They keep saying, "Oh, we've lost good people" and I'm thinking...no, no we didn't. We didn't lose one person. I hope they include a Virmire-like decision in ME3. They suck...but it really adds something.

Agreed. It's way too easy to keep everyone alive once you know the tricks, and it cheapens the suicide mission. Sure, you could intentionally let someone die to get the emotional impact, but it's really not the same as being forced into a difficult choice. I loved the Virmire decision because it was an actual difficult choice and as such had a huge emotional impact. The suicide mission lacked that quality.

I fled the base and all the collectors heard before the blast was:

Kiss my SHINY Resurrected ASS!

Grunt was taken away by the swams, Legion was shot up, and Jack died holding the line, the entire crew died including Dr. Chakwas since I needed everyone on the team!

Garrus and Mordin, Garrus because i picked Jacob as the biotic, Mordin because i sent the one that could have kept him alive while holding the line, Grunt, to escort the crew back

Completionist player, playing paragon Shepard, so everyone was loyal and all research was done. Chose Garrus as a fire team leader for role-playing reason and lucked out. Sent Mordin as escort for role-playing reason (wanted to send the scientist back to the lab) and lucked out again. Used Samara as biotic specialist, used Tali as tech specialist. Those felt like no-brainer choices and I was right.

The only advance/spoiler I had beforehand was I knew I had a short time limit between getting the IFF and starting the final mission. So I held off on the IFF mission until I had completed everything else (all star clusters explored). It all seemed pretty straightforward at the time.

No one.

But I've been playing these games since BG1 and have team diplomacy and sidequesting down too an art form.

Shooting, however, is a bit new ... thank god for Grunt.  HE.  IS.  KROGAN!

EDIT:  Of course I also have reloading seven thousand times down too an artform as well.  Damn vampires in BG2 taught me that one.

My first playthrough of any game is always munchkinistic. So 300000+ of all minerals (I just thought there will be technologies that you can find on Collectors' base and explore immediately before moving anywhere else), all loyality missions, all upgrades, and end of dialogues with every party member. No Zaeed or Kasumi. Oh, I even thought before that tenth squad member would be tIM, but this is another story.

Chose Legion as tech - he told before that geth don't need in air or gravitation, and I suspected he is good tech and resist to possible contamination or so on.

Fire team leader both times was Garrus - after losing his squad he won't let anyone to die.

Biotic shield was held by Jack. I was still under impression of her actions on Purgatory.

Jacob escorted the crew - because he also from Cerberus and knows them pretty well.

So everyone survived - even Mordin held the line.

***

Now my worst playthrough. Zaeed, Kasumi and Tali are not recruited. Legion and Miranda are illoyal. No shield upgrade

Garrus died from core explosion (Legion fights with Oculus)

Jacob died as tech expert.

Jack died as fire team leader, Grunt died as Miranda held the barrier.

Mordin survives as escort.

Miranda and Legion died at very end. Thane and Samara survived

  • Jack (can't say that I missed her though).
  • Tali which I thought was actually kind of funny because I just experienced the romance scene and she was the first one to die. I was like damn, but oh well moving on. (just kidding by the way don't get butt hurt Tali fans).
  • Thane which pissed me off because he is such a badass.
  • Finally, Jacob because I picked him to go through the vents.
Also, I might add that most of these characters died because I didn't get the stupid upgrades for the ship. I mean come on who would have thought that the upgrades for the ship, with their high cost of minerals, would actually be used? However, with the numerous mistakes that I made I can honestly say that I did not reload the last mission just to make sure that everone lived, because to me that just takes away from the experience of having your decisions affecting the game and i hate how some people actually do that.

I lost no one and it was before I knew the roles everyone played. For my first 3 play throughs I just used the exact same teams for every part of the game out of fear of loosing someone. It was the fourth play where I looked up which characters did which jobs.

The squad was always, Miranda leading the two fire teams (who would have guessed Jacob? Especially over someone like Zaeed), Samara as the biotic, Tali as the tech, Jack leading the crew back to the Normandy, and Thane and Jacob going into the final battle with me.

That was it for 3 plays. It took me forever to make a few decisions and I really over thought things (I thought keeping Miranda and Jack together would end in Jack attacking Miranda, so I sent her with the crew; I brought Thane to the final battle because I thought Legion and Garrus could be the snipers with the rear guard and Jacob was a lousy tank compared to Grunt and Zaeed and a lousy biotic compared to Samara and Miranda).

I've only ever lost people on one play where I wanted to kill Shepard off to see how that ending went.

Legion died as the tech specialist, I forget who I chose to lead the second squad.

Then Thane died when I had him lead the distraction team.
