System Specs:
AMD Phonom II x4 940 3.0 GHz (yeah it's a Quad Core)
4gigs RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 video card
Windows 7 Professional x64 bit
DirectX 11
I already tried the fix for quad core Phenoms listed here: http://social.biowar...189269/3#202065 but that doesn't seem to work for me. I'm guessing cause that is for earlier Phenom versions or my problem has nothing to do with that.
I also have made sure all my drivers are fully up to date so I have no issues there.
Can anyone help me out?

I did Have a interesting thought though, this all started when I changed my system over to Windows 7 Professional and I had no issues playing the game at all when I had Windows XP. Windows 7 Professional unlike Home Premium has a "Compatibility" settings option which can allow me to run a program as if it is using different versions of Older OS like Vista or XP. So I think I'm going to attempt to run it in compatibility mode as a XP program see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't then I'm out of Ideas since I've tried everything I could find.

Off the top of my head I done some things to my game that seem to stop my game crashing.
1. Took all online options off except upload player profile
2. Disabled anti aliasing, vertical sync, frame buffer
3. Added an exception to Dragon Age: origins in data prevention.
4. Set the game in compatibility mode to windows xp service pack 3.
5. reinstalled and repaired c++ runtime libraries. Make sure if you use 64 bit OS to repair or reinstall the c++ 64 bit version.
I use windows 7 ultimate edition 64 bit and never crashed with 1.04.
Hopefully if you try these your game won't crash. I tried and played the game with all patches for over 40 hours and never crashed anywhere. A couple of annoying freezes but no crash.

I run Win7 Home Premium 64-bit myself and am using (2) BFG 8800 GTX OC 768MB video cards in SLI mode with PhysX enabled.
With some video settings, I crashed like crazy. I'd try this. I'd try that. Do this. Do that. Bah! I finally gave up trying to figure out why it was crashing and focused on what I could do to prevent crashing, and this is all I've come up with:
Set AA to 8xQ (8x works, but with PhysX enabled, I use 8xQ instead). The software won't allow the game to run above 8x, even when I turn on "Override Application Setting" in the NVIDIA control panel. Bah! Also, I found that setting my AF to 16x was too much of a performance hit with mediocre returns, so I keep AF at 8x. If my Vsync is on, so is Triple Buffering. Everything else you'll have to "test" for yourself.

Do you use Morrigan and Wynne by any chance? Also what spells do you have them use? I know certain magic spells crash the game. I been playing the game from the start again and still no crashes so can't really help.
Also what graphic card driver do you use?

I have discovered something that could be related to the problem though as I just went through another series of uninstalls and reinstalls where I figured this out. During the Install process the installer tries to detect for Microsoft .Net Framework 2 point whatever and can not detect it since windows 7 only has the 4 point whatever version installed thus gives a error. However closing that error box the install continues and seems to go fine but I get a message after it is over from Windows saying the game may not have installed correctly. Now if I run the install with it set for "run as Administrator" for all users in the compatibility mode I still get the error during install of not detecting that version 2 .Net Framework, but windows no longer says after that it may not have installed properly. Then obviously uninstalling and going through again after downloading and installing the version it tries to detect for (just to be on the safe side) I have no errors at all during or after the process.
Now one or both of these could be the problem as to why the game crashes for Windows 7 (cause the install isn't going properly and thus screwing something up in the game), but we'll see if I crash again when I go back in and play the game. I may make a new character just to run back through previous spots where I had crashed and see what happens. Though I forgot to set the "Run as Administrator" thing when I ran patch 1.03 (before running 1.04) or when installing awakening. So dunno if that will hinder my results or not but we'll see.

Do you get any visual problems before the game crashes? Maybe there are other spells that cause crashing as well.

What about Wynne and Morrigan? Do you use them at all? Strange about framework 2 though. Mine went fine, at first asked that it was not installed correctly so I uninstalled it then ran as admin and installed it and no problems and did the same with awakening.
:-P just answered that with a second post before you posted.

Now these spells seem to work, but the game crashes occasionally and without a "reason". Sometimes it crashes during combat and then it crashes in camp or elsewhere, when no special action is performed.
I guess that this is a Win 7 problem, for whatever reasons there might be. Under Vista and 1.03 we could at least determine the reason of the crash (like said spells). Now it crashes randomly, which is typical for a general problem with the OS.
Request:
I recently bought my first ATI-graphics (Sapphire HD 5570, 1 GB DDR3-RAM). Please tell me, that nVidia-users suffer the same crashing problems and that it's NOT an ATI-thing.
EDIT:
W7 offers a routine to check if a program is compatible or not. Finally it seems to run without crashing when I set it to Vista SP2 compatibility.
Odd: W7 lists DA as "not compatible application".

Also I am a Nvidia user and have crashes like your getting with ATI so I don't think it's a problem with video cards. Might be a general compatibility problem with Windows 7 like you suggest.

Glad to hear, that I didn't run into one of the common ATI-things
BTW, whatever they list on the packages might be true for the systems they tested it with.
I am certain, that there might be one or two configurations out of some thousands on which even this game runs stable. Reason enough for BW (and all other game companies) to blame ALWAYS the user first, if something is not running
:innocent:

Mostly I'm, too, one of those without problems at all. But not in this game.
If I remember correctly I had no problems right after release, but for some reasons the patches made it bad and worse for me.
It would be nice to hear, if Vista- and XP-users have these crashes, too.
I won't entirely blame BioWare for the problems, because many other games - with "W7 supported" written on the packages - are crashing over and over again; CIV 5 is one example.
In my case I'm quite certain, that some mods are additional reasons. Since I disabled "extra dog slot", the game - still in Vista SP2 compatibility mode - runs even more stable.
Poor dog

That will Give DAOrigins 4GB virtuell memory instead of 2GB.
@Baher of Glory Users with 32 bits Windows may also enable large_adress_aware, as above.
But to get the benefits and give DAOrigins more memore you also have to do some system tweaking, named Increase UserVa.
Instructions for Vista 32-bit OS for setting the 3GB memory setting.
To SET the 2.5GB switch in 32-bit VISTA, do the following:
1) Right-click 'Command Prompt" under -- Start > Accessories > Command Prompt
2) Choose 'Run as Administrator'
3) Type "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 2560" and press [Enter]
4) Restart the computer
This will give 2.5 to applikations and 1.5GB to system, default is 2GB to applikation and 2GB to system.
To REMOVE the 2.5GB switch in 32-bit VISTA, do the following:
1) Right-click 'Command Prompt" under -- Start > Accessories > Command Prompt
2) Choose 'Run as Administrator'
3) Type "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa" and press [Enter]
4) Restart the computer .

1) Is this also relevant for 32-bit Windows 7 users?
2) When I run DA:O under W7 with compatibility setting "Vista SP2", would it make sense then all the more?

2) It makes sense in both cases.
To my understanding the procedure, for W7 and Vista is equal.
XP32 is a bit different, there you have to edit your boot.ini
