I posted about this to the dragon age general section a while back but I realize it's more of a thing I need mods for. So here we go.

About a month ago I got someone hooked up in Dragon Age.  All was
good, he played through origins romancing Morrigan and awakening went
though with only 5 game-breaking bugs.  A few weeks ago he said he got
himself witch hunt and needed help with something.

The game
didn't recognize the whole Morrigan romance thing, he had the 1.1 patch
Witch Hunt as we made sure (offical site) and his warden in origins
ended with (love) approval. Now, I would like to add something of
myself. Around the same time he started playing, I started a re-run with
a character. Didn't romance anyone, just went through both games.

And
guess what? Appereantly I romanced Morrigan...Great, I didn't want
that, I never had anything going on. I'm pretty sure she hated me too
with me playing a complete **** towards everyone. But there I am at the
beginning of the DLC with a dialogue choice "I love her" Sigh. (It
wasn't ONLY that dialogue, mind you)

I must confess that the DLC
isn't very good itself, and I wouldn't really care about this so much,
if it wasn't the last thing to the Warden's story. It's frustrating. And
I don't really want my friend having to end it in an incorrect way
either.

So, this is ridiculous, if anyone has a workaround
somewhere, like "toggle/untoggle romance" or so I would like to end it
the way my choices ended them. (and his) A simple item that I would be allowed to use in awakening which would let me choose who was my romance/or none at all.

I would  be ever so grateful.

The problem is with Witch Hunt - it's borked (probably irreparably, given their patch history, unless they release the source to the community). Setting the flags in your Origins or Awakening save (which is essentially what you appear to be asking for) isn't going to solve the issue, as you yourself have already discovered.

To test this claim, I loaded up an older save of my friend's at the epilogue of origins and used a mod called "Epilogue editor" (only works in origins) and changed some bugged flag of romance with Morrigan. I then loaded up Witch hunt and the romance worked.

Basically one could say this is a fix, but it's not. For the epilogue editor cannot be used in Awakening, and playing through the whole awakening in hope of the whole thing not reseting away is slim.

So yes, a romancetoggle of Morrigan should logically work if possible to use at end of awakening.

EDIT: I checked again. Appereantly it's the ring that bugs it all. Basically if you choose something like "Fine, give it to me" to Morrigan in origins when she is giving the ring, you don't get it. For some reason Morrigan gave my romance-less warden the ring. How that turned out is beyond me.
So I checked the "Morrigan gave the ring" flag and the romance was active for him. Knowing this I tried gicing him Morrigan's ring by the console before importing from Awakening, this however did not work.

My problem then is, that I need a "Morrigan gave you the ring/not"  toggle in awakening desperately. I want these to end the way they need to. :/
