Chapter 2: 8- 13?
Chapter 3: 14-17?
Chapter 4: 17-20?
Based on my own experinced. But it's not right yet, as I need the opinons of everyone else before this can be offical. Post away your opinons on what level you should be!

My own experienced maximum and typical numbers if scrubbing all possible XP opportunities and without farming any XP...
Prelude - 4 Max; 3 Typ
Ch 1 - 10 Max; 8-9 Typ
Ch 1 Finale - Ch 1 max + 1; Ch 1 Typ + 1
Ch 2 - 16 Max; 14-15 Typ
Ch2 Luskan - 17 Max; 15-16 Typ
Ch3 - 20 Max; 15-17 Typ
Ch4 - 20 Max; 18 Typ
Keep in mind that ECL has a HUGE effect as does your gaming habits. Soloing will usually reach the Max levels. Using a henchman, familiar, animal companion and summons will drastically reduce the maximum achievable ending levels. Figure about 10-15% XP penalty per ally. Some players will only use allies in the tougher battles, some throughout the entire campaign. Another way to maximize XP is to delay all the quest XP rewards (like the henchman quests) until the very end of each module since those are static rewards.
This issue has been debated to death on the legacy boards where a few members have submitted algorithms for the various multiclass combos (i.e. ECL effect) and XP penalties per ally (IIRC extracted from the 2das).
If you enjoy compiling your own information like this, go to it... but it's been done before. Incidentally, in the campaign readme's Bioware has published the suggested levels.
For the OC, for example..
Prelude: Levels 1 to 3
Chapter 1: Levels 3 to 8
Chapter 2: Levels 7 to 15
Chapter 3: Levels 13 to 17
Chapter 4: Levels 15+

How in the nine hells you get to L4 in the prelude?

Right. I supposed that was pretty much it. However, I don't think you can get 3000 XPs with just skeletons and goblins. Or can you? Dammit, I'll have to try it myself.HipMaestro wrote...
1. Play non-fighter class (helps with CR). 2. Solo (no hench, no summon, no pal) 3. Run to stables after leveling to 2, avoiding kills like the plague. 4. After leveling to 3 in the stables, backtrack through academy scrubbing all kills.

edit: wiz, sorc & cleric for sure; bard, dru & rog maybe; other classes, close but no cigar

that said, here's what i normally get when i play through the OC. keeping in mind i almost always have a henchmen with me, and typically complete all the side quests.
Prelude - 3
Ch 1 - 8
Ch 1 Finale - i generally don't get any extra levels here
Ch 2 - 13
Ch2 Luskan - 14
Ch3 - 15 if i level up at all, which i don't normally.
Ch4 - 15 or 16
Why are all these so low? XP penalties of course! in order to do every quest you need to multiclass. typically i end up with Druid/Wiz/rogue(usually no more then 3 levels).

I didn't even know that... so I thought I was maybe not the only one.
'never know, 'right?
Another question was: Is a familiar considered as an animal companion, my call, or a summon, keeping in mind it stays around when resting (but not if levelling-up).
I do believe a familar count as one henchy when it comes to the XPs calculation, the reason why I barely ever use one... which is the stupidiest attitude, I just realised... They're so beautiful, especially those dragon ones...
I could be wrong, but that would be the first time, therefore I'm probably right.

Nasty mercenary types "steal" the most XP of all.
Personally, I love pixie banter. They so cute!
edit: Level 7 druid requirement confirmed. Ring reward exploit can be used to farm additional XP, if desired.

These are some the most challenging combat encounters in the campaign, especially for mid-level (10-13) PCs.
