Actualy I have nothing against the idea. Vampires are one of the more decent mythical creatures if we forget about the recent fabulously sparkling ones.

Same, but we have to recognsie that vampires would be a bit redundant.
The Reaver spec (stealing lifeforce of others to heal oneself, induce terror) and blood magic (use life force for power, mind control) somewhat (not fully) replace the traditional vampire characteristics.

So if there is going to be a vampire like creature, it should be less traditional and more unique.
I think werebats are not that common, so maybe they can work. Then again, I am watching Garrgoyles, so maybe that's why.

Yes, Bioware can make the vampires as unique as they like, as long as its called a vampire and when you see it for the first time you think "vampire".

Like the werewolfes. Its called a werewolf and it looks like a werewolf.

And while we're at it, I want to confiscate every single copy of any movie or book named Twilight in the world, dump them together, set them ablaze and throw Stephenie Meyer in the fire.

And call a shaper to wipe her name off of memories.

...come on, you don't become a vampire for pissing on a relic (reaver case)
This way you could say that any mage is a vampire because you don't have to use any specialisations to use Drain Life spell... that's highly overinterpreted.

EDIT: well actualy when I think about it you can become a vampire by pissing on a relic...

But they're already in the game. They're just not called vampires.

No, there are no vampires in the game. Ther are things like vampires, but no vampires. A blood mage is not a vampire, it is a human (or elf) like you and me.

and a vampire is a human or elf (like you and me) who relies on blood to give fuel to his supernatural abilities.

Well, the realest "vampire" present in lore... actually, I don't know if it is in the codex or not, but Mary Kirby has talked about it (think it was her)... are humans possessed by hunger demons, who become cannibals and blood drinkers. But they are supposedly closer to intelligent zombies than what comes to mind with the word "vampire"... of course, that's true of certain kinds of vampires as well. There are endless permutations on the myth.

But a blood mage does exactly what a vampire traditionally does (or at least the Bram Stroker vamps do) in manipulation of the body, blood and mind. It's not a far out comparison. A blood mage is a vampire who doesn't go poof when the sun's out (something that isn't universal for all vampires either.)

This is also closer to the older folklorish vampires who would claw the roof out of their coffins (in DA it would be a corpse possessed by a demon) and behave in almost the same fashion.

I didn't say you become a vampire. I said you obtain abilities that would make vampires redundant.

I wouldn't be impressed if a vampire shows up and the only thing he / she can do is easily done by a non-vampire.
Hence, they should come up with something that makes the creature unique and interesting.

Perhaps vampires can be mages who were able to make a pact with hunger demons, as to not lose their free will and this pact can only be sustained by blood. Or warriors with a hunger demon (not unlike spirit warrior, except with a demon) with the same kind of arrangement. Something that would make it unique and yet not out of place in the established lore. Same with their in-game abilities. They need to have something that doesn't make them redundant.

No, a vampire is cursed, they are a monster, and are not entirely Human, they are different. It has different DNA.

A blood mage is not. They have the same DNA, they are not cursed, they are normal. The only thing different is that they can use magic, and blood magic is just a specific form of magic.

Then we're talking about ghouls.

Well... vampires are undead... acording to any lore actualy. They drink blood not only to stay strong but to keep on living (in some). Blood mages don't TAKE anyone's blood. They don't absorb it in any way, they use the blood to enchance the spell, it doesn't have to be someone's blood - it can be their blood aswell. classical vampire has no blood of itself, it's not able to reproduce blood cells. In this case there is no feeding, there is only enhancing.

Also, I'm only talking here, I don't support any side, my only rule about such things is that as long as they are well explained they might aswell be added. But I don't see vampires added in DA2.

Yes, this is good, i want unique vampires, as long as they are called vampires and look like vampires. (a shambling corpse does not look like a vampire)

It's a vampire with a unique spin. Just like the Succubi (Desire Demon) got its own unique spin for the game.

Sorry(well not really I hate vampires) but the Lore of Dragon Age is pretty much set on what constitutes a Vampire, and its nothing like a suave sophisticated predatory gentleman for girls to squee over.

I personally don't really care what they are called.
Like someone else pointed out, a Desire demon is like a succubus, they don't need to have the same name for us to identify them as such. So I would not insist on the name.

Yes it does. It depends on what vampire mythology you're talking about. A zombie is just as much a vampire (original zombies were supposed  to have magic powers akin to sorcerers and witches) as Edward Cullen or Spike.

Than again I cant wait DA vampires to show up though. With their rotting flesh dead eyes and putrid smell hitting on all the teenage girls, it would be hilarious.

Your talking about Twilight. Before Twilight, girls did not "squee" over vampires. Stop thinking abbout Twilight and think about all the cool things Bioware could do with a vampire (that isnt a shambling corpse).

Everyon here is so pessimistic about vampires.

Granted, it may not hav to be called a vampire, as long as it looks, and acts like a vampire. A smart vampire that isnt a shambling corpse. I like what someone said before about a blood mage striking a deal with some kind of demon, and maybe something went wrong and it turned into a vampire.

In Vampire lore, yes there are the zombie vamps, but there are also the head, dominant vampires, that are smart, and not shambling corpses. This is what i want.

No girls have been squeeing over vampires for awhile Buffy, Anne Rice, and an incalculable number of young adult modern fantasy fiction. Twilight was just the nail in the coffin(he he pun) that woke most people up to this overused trope.

Well, I will concede that the blood mage making a pact with a hunger demon to retain sentience in return for consuming blood actually is a pretty cool idea. I wouldn't say no to that.

If we're going to have vampires in DA, I want Alucard.
