Sorry(well not really I hate vampires) but the Lore of Dragon Age is pretty much set on what constitutes a Vampire, and its nothing like a suave sophisticated predatory gentleman for girls to squee over.

Your talking about Twilight. Before Twilight, girls did not "squee" over vampires. Stop thinking abbout Twilight and think about all the cool things Bioware could do with a vampire (that isnt a shambling corpse).

Everyon here is so pessimistic about vampires.

*cough*Anne Rice*cough*Lestat*cough*

That is no where near as big or famous than Twilight is. 1/2 of teenage girls have read twilight. More have seen the movies. I cant say the same about Lestat. And that stuff is based on the vampire lore that vampires are sexually active, seductive....etc.

In fact i had barely heard of Anne rice and Lestat until i googled it when you said.

7 pages, wow. How bout something like the Man-Bat from DC comics. A hedge-witch or apostate that gets stuck in the form of a were-bat and is ravaging through the Fereldan refugees in the Free Marches. Then Hawke comes thru all Warden-wannabe like and hunts this creature down.

Man Bat is awesome- hehe...have it like a bit of shapeshifting gone wrong or something. Although that quest sounds more like a job for the Witcher...

Perhaps "no one" over 18 has heard of Anne Rice.  Anne Rice is the sole reason Stephanie Meyer was able to write and market the Twilight books in the first place.  And while I find Anne Rice's books pretentious, especially the later ones where she decided she was God and her writing not to be profaned by editors' hands, they're leagues ahead of Meyer's writing in terms of quality, depth, and heck, even moral integrity, which is saying a lot about how little I think of Meyer's.

In summary:  Vampires in DA2 only if like Alucard, not like Lestat or Louis (their time has come and gone), and please God not like Edward Cullen (Alucard wouldn't even deign to eat him).  However, Alucard in DA terms is most like a pride demon, so I would say the entire concept is unnecessary.

Alright, let me get this straight, before I support/refute you.

You want vampires.

The vampires must not look like zombies.

The vampires cannot be human, elven, dwarven, or qunari.

The vampires must apparently be able to seduce people and spread their curse, but they totally don't have to look hot.

You are not willing to compromise under any circumstances.

You also mentioned earlier that they must be called vampires by name, but then decided to pull that statement back a few pages later.

Am I correct?

1. Correct

2. Correct

3. Incorrrect, where did i say this? Of coarse the vampires can be humans, elves, dwarves or Qunari, what else will they be?

4. No, The vampires can be whatever, as long as there not mindless. I was just talking about vampire lore where vampires are seductive and deceptive.

5. I am willing to compromise, as long as there not those shambling corpses.

6. I would much rather they be called vampires, (like the werewolves were called werewolves), but if it is unmistakenly recognisable as a vampire first (the first thing that comes to your mind), then Bioware can call it something else.

Vampires!!

I got a strong vampire vibe from the countess in Awakening and from Avernus but they were bloodmages that got possesed and/or somehow managed to live longer than they should.

I'm guessing the closest we'll get to vampires in DA is meeting some possesed bloodmages or similar.

It'd have to be an unique character, because Vampires have been done to death as a species. Good Vampires, Evil Vampires...all vampire culture variations form all parts of the world (past, present, future, fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk)...and a list of superpowers that go beyond ridiculous. To give us something we haven't seen yet about a vampire would be extremely difficult.

Everything has been done to death in fantasy (or any other genre for that matter).

to touch on this sebject matter I did finde a codex in D.A. that talked about vampries.but I never saw one in the game and it never dawned on me that yes deamons can be vampires in a senscebecause sophia's deamon said that she was just food for this one no more no less.and we know that vampiers have to feed so I bejeive that on once a deamon enters a human body that person is infact a vampire.your friend Bethann

Yes, i want a unique person to be the vampire. In some of my posts on earlier pages, i talked about how you bump into a village that had been enthralled by a powerful vampire, a unique character/antagonist. Of coarse, he could have his minion vampires as well......

It is clearly lunch-food.

I don't really believe that. A lot of fantasy recycles roles to creatures simply so they remain recognizable. Changes are only made when an audience is in danger of getting bored. Popular species such as dragons and elves, for example, have to be tweeked a little more often because they are used so often. Easily replaceable species that usually play the role of canon fodder, such as trolls and ogres, have only recently begun to be explored in different settings (In fact, shrek is the only real spin on the ogre identity as a main character that I've found so far). Vampires are so popular that they probably have been the most drasticly rewritten species in new settings and roles not only amung darker fiction, but some of the lighter fictions as well.

Well, seeing as this is a dark fantasy fiction, how about the vampire is really really evil, like, he/she makes your blood curdle and you shiver during his scenes. Not cheesy evil, but truly evil. Really really wrong.

Klume, I think you need to clarify exactly what you want.

"Vampires" is too broad. There are a crapton of different vampire myths, and by the measure of some of 'em, DA does have "Vampires" .. it just doesn't call them the same thing.

You mentioned a curse-spreading monster that feeds on blood. We have werewolves.

What is a vampire but a shaved werewolf with better anger management?

You mentioned seducers that feed on their victims. We have desire demons.

You mentioned mind-controlling and bloodletting. We have blood mages.

So, let's say you have a blood mage that is posessed by a desire demon and infected with the curse of lycanthropy.

Would that satisfy your desire for a "vampire" .. ?

Lunch! damned heresy i'm contacting the templars. Does no one else think that the essence of the vampire myth is kind of weak, I get the whole sex and death thing but I prefer sex and life and for gods sake vampires must stop moping.

Maybe.........If you read some of my earlier posts on other pages, you will see more clearly what i want.

Really, i will have any type of vampire as long as you think "vampire" first. Not "oh no, a blood mage", "oh no, a desire demon", "oh no, a shambling corpse", " oh no, a werewolf" (love them but already in DAO, perhaps we see Swiftrunner as a cameo), i want " Oh crap, a vampire"(unique character)

An easy way to do this is to call it a vampire.

I also dont understand why so many people are against this.

I wonder if, before Origins came out, and i started a topic about Werewolves in DAO, would those same people be against it, saying its a silly idea, and im an idiot for wanting it?

Try something different like in Bakjwi, make a vampire like that priest in that movie. It doesn't have to be like Lestat all the time, you know. Make it interesting if we're going to have vampires.
