What weapons are u using btw? Spellweaver with shield i assume? if u use 2h u might have a harder time then warriors hitting something, but when u do hit, it takes a big chunk out of an enemies hp if it does't kill them outright. just keep in mind that your spells are the main weapons, Maisma can make things easyer since it lowers enemies def as well, so try out that spell if u like bashing everything.

Since mag replaces str it's only logical it boosts attack as well as dmg.

I dunno about that... I think bein able to wear heavy armor without leaving the studies of magic is unique. Most of the time, if a Mage wants to wear Heavy Armor, they gotta delve into non-magic power to do it. There's no such trouble here.Takrandro wrote...
The Arcane warrior class is't unique, they simply added it i think couse u can't multiclass like in NWN2, in witch i always play a caster/warrior hybrid since it gives u the best of both worlds.

would be nice if they added some kind of priest class still if find 1 class for both offencive and defencive magic quite hard to maintain.
So let's hope Awakening has that

Well, the advantage of the D&D games is that u just need 1 lvl in a warrior class to get all the feats u need for wearing heavy armor, altrough the arcane spell failure was the main problem if u wanted to waer it unless u found one of those rare mage armors, or if u simply went as a divine caster(witch i always did) in witch u can cast spells without any problems at all
Here, ya can get armor without ANY warrior training. No spell failure in sight, just higher spell costs that noone considers nearly balancing enough.
That's GOTTA make those Ferelden Soldiers jealous... They gotta train their bums off day after day for years to get buff enough to wear that armor, then train their bums off for years longer to fight with skill in that heavy stuff, then get to watch an Elf grab 1 Specialization point, stick it onto Arcane Warrior, then BAM!!! The Elf is stickin on their pre-acquired Heavy/Massive Armor, wearing it completely easily through their Magic, sticking their tongue at the Soldiers, & getting as much Armor power as them after 2 seconds of work! The Elf rides off laughing his/her head off at the soldiers, & makes the soldiers take a good, long look at the Templar path.
Is it any wonder why the Arcane Warrior would look so awesome? Think 10Str Elf wearing 70+ lbs of metal with ease with easily compensated consequences, & Magic powered weapons aren't somethin to sneeze at either. I don't think Armored Mage is the specialness, I think Armored Mage with non-sick weaknesses is the specialness.

Spirit Healer + Arcane Warrior, & take your pick of offensive & defensive spells from the baselines. Perhaps Creation + a few Spirit Spells, take your pick of Primal line of choice? If I remember right, ya could make D&D Clerics that could gain elemental spells, so a Primal spell line Priest wouldn't be outta the question.

since your magic score takes care of the hit chance, u only should take it if u want more dodge chance, but in general, its not needed.

& to add to that, i've heard of AWs combining Massive Armor with defensive buffs & getting their damage absorption power so high, that they can reduce non-boss enemy damage to single digits even late game. (Though I can't confirm the intel.) With stamina like that, there's probably no point in Dex or dodging power unless ya wanna make your AW weapon a Dagger, & those are better left to Rogues.Takrandro wrote...
better to put points u have left in willpower.

Besides, stamina just is handy in that u either use it in blood magic or to grant u those exstra few hits u can take before going down(when not healing yourself)
But i peronally don't think there's anything ingame atm that can boost your resilince so high that u barely take any damage.
Anyway, point is, dex is useless as AW unless u are stupid eneugh to go dualwield or think ranged weapons are the way(and hit even less targets)

I also agree that Ranged Weapons are pointless on an AW, because their Staves already fulfill that role. Even if nothing else, having a Staff & a Bow/Crossbow at the same time would be pointlessly redundant for ranged combat needs.

Im currently running through the game with my AW on nightmare, and my
armors i'm using are a Hood+robe, and even with all buffs, i still get hit for
plently of damage on occasion. I have the Warden's armor sitting in the
stash waiting. But are heavy armor really that much more effective for an
AW, even if you're not casting any spells other then the sustained ones?.
My combined armor-rating is still "low" with around 50ish, while my
defense is insanely high with well over 100.
Here's my current gear.
Spellward Necklace
Andruil's Blessing Belt.
Imperial Weavers Boots.
Reaper's Vestment Robe.
Ancient Elven Gloves.
Helm of Honnleath.
Key to the City ring.
Spellweaver Sword.
Fadewall Shield.
Like i said. I don't care much for casting spells, my main dmg is
my sword with enhancements+bombs+coatings. So would i benefit
from changing to full Massive armor instead of the dress im currently wearing?.

Well first of all most of the stuff you are wearing is as good as it'll get anyway, but yes, specially your chest armor will give you lots more armor which means a difference in incoming damage particularly from many non-elite enemies.
Secondly you mentioned your playstyle which is basically going in melee to do some hacking, any upgrade to supporting armor will definately make you more durable this way, if you stay back casting spells more and rely on party members to do melee/tanking then lighter armor is allways nicer (less fatigue) but for a full frontal melee AW massive armor will make a difference

poison so he dont freeze me.
