Engineer is probably the best class for Hardcore or Insanity, but its not very fun to be honest.

Gotta love the engineer..next to the vanguard. Least played, for me, is the sentinel. Pretty boring.

It is my preferred class though sentinel comes in a close second.

every class has special tactic, and ability. Engineer is great because you can throw explosive or attack drone to confuse enemies then you can just finish them. heavy mechs, shadow broker are applied to the same way. plus, hacking pretty much all of mech including Geth. creation of distract is very important for combat situation. of course, it's basic tactic. with assault rifle training, this class is awesome.

The Engineer is my favorite ME2 class (it wasn't in ME1), followed by.
Infiltrator, Adept, Sentinel, Soldier, Vanguard

I think there are two easy ways Bioware could make people play less Soldiers:

(1) Make default Shep not a Soldier.
(2) Reverse the order of the classes on the class selection screen.

I think the statistics are slanted because a lot of more casual players play the default because it's the easiest way to start a new game.

I used to think Engineer is my favorite class but I know have debate is it Engineer or Sentinel. Mainly do to Sentinel's Tech armor which is awesome but it doesn't have Drone nor AI hacking.

But still I don't get it why is Engineer least favorite.

It's not really passive class.

They are meh to me. AI Hacking is completely useless, to be honest. Combat Drone always seemed useless aswell.

Here's how I rate all six classes basically in terms of my own "enjoyment" from "favorite" to "least favorite":

1.) Sentinel - This is by far my favorite class, especially with Reave as a BP.

2.) Engineer- Definately my second favorite class since I've discovered the beauty of NS lol.

3.) Soldier - Soldier is the closest "class" in the game I can actually "relate" to with my prior military background. So, I naturally find this class pretty fun.

4.) Infiltrator - Because there's nothing quite like sighting down a target for a good headshot. TC is nice too.

5.) Vanguard - Used to like this class alot. Not so much once all the enemy and biotic charge glitches started annoying me. If BW somehow fixes BC and also stops enemies from "sticking in the environement" when you use it on them at times. Then this could easily go back to being in Soldier's spot on my list.

6.) Adept - I've tried playing Adept many, many times and for some reason just cant get into it. I can't put my finger on any one thing about the class as a whole that I dont like so my conclusion is that it just isnt my proverbial "cup o' tea."

Now in regards to the original topic, yes, I love Engineer. In fact, I actually had a tough time deciding whether Engineer should be on my #1 spot or not. Ultimately I had to make it #2 because my Sentinel (as a whole) just has better survivability. However, that is so minute of a difference really that I could technically put both Sentinel AND Engineer as #1 because in the bigger picture, I love both of the classes equally.

@Flamesz - Combat Drong definately has it's uses.  IMO, it's not meant as an "attack tool" but more of a "support" and discrationary tool.  If you sit and spam your drone on say, two YMIR mechs, they will be distracted by the drone as long as you keep it spawned while you and your teammates pick them apart.  It's also good for getting some enemies out from behind cover that Incinerate can't get to.  Pop your little drone out (I call my drone Gnome because he "roams" all over the place kind of like the Roaming Gnome lol.) and watch him/her run over and dig them out of cover.  Also good for if you are closing on a enemy as well.  Again, drop the drone and they'll be distracted by it while you close the distance and essentially "execute" them at close range.

I've played engineer all the way through insanity and I love it. It's not as flashy as biotic abilities, but it's useful -- and I've always liked being a 'support' class.

If the drones were a little hardier or did something else neat (like sass opponents), I'd like it even more!

Say that again after having played Tali's loyalty mission on Insanity. I don't think's there a more useful ability than AI hacking there.

I've always thought combat drone almost felt like a cheat against "boss" enemies like Geth Primes and YMIRs. If you have both Legion and Tali in your squad, you can keep enemies distracted almost indefinitely.

Note, number one is still for me debatable.

1. Engineer: Attack Drone is one of the most most useful skills in game( enemy live cover, Geth Prime and YMIR Mech turn around for few seconds so safe to do some extra damage, life saver from Krogan charge), I love AI hacking( hacking Geth and Loki Mech for diversion, Hacking YMIR Mech and Geth Prime to annihilate smaller enemies), Overlord and Incinerate are very useful.

1. Sentinel: Tech armor is much more fun then Biotic Charge. With Mattock Assault Rifle and Tempest SMG Sentinel is unstoppable!

3. Soldier: Guns, guns and GUNS! Plus my Canon Shep is Soldier.

4. Infiltrator: Sniping and some stealth with this class. I like in that this class also has AI hacking. Only disappointing with this class is that sniper rifles are much more effective with Soldier.

5. Adept: Do I even need guns and heavy weapons? Adept is heavy weapon. But I still hate powers don't have individual cooldown's so is very low on the list.

6. Vanguard: I suck with Vanguard so is not very fun class for me. I never was good in very close combat. Biotic Charge is very fun but it often get me killed since I usually use quick keys so I hit wrong target( since in fraction of second it changes target), get surrounded and get killed. Claymore Shotgun is very fun.

The main issue I have with playing engineer is their primary power is one that two of your squadmates can utilise anyway. Maybe I'm just being silly, but I prefer to play a class which has a unique ability (Soldier, Vanguard, Infiltrator, Sentinel) since it keeps the combat more interesting.

AI Hacking isn't a very good skill. Much better to put your points into Overload and ignore AI Hacking.

Also, while Combat Drone is useful, it suffers in comparison to most other class-specific abilities. Tech Armor, Adrenaline Rush, Cloak, Singularity, and even Charge can all get you out of sticky situations. Combat Drone doesn't really do that. It does, in fact, require you to play more passively. Just sit in the back and send out drones.

I will say this, though. Having Combat Drone does make some boss fights easier than other classes. Anytime you can get the boss to turn his/her back to you, that's a good thing.

So, in short, Engineer is by no means a bad class. It's just kinda boring.

Their drones aren't even close to being as useful as your own drone though. And using them in concert is actually a very effective tactic and pretty much the only way to get consistent use out of squadmate drones.

Been an Engineer from ME1-2 and will do the same for 3. I loved the drone in ME2. Used it to distract enemies and bosses on insanity.

because you don't max that power point out (level 4). it's a big different between level 3 and level 4.

Enginner is my main but I never used AI hacking. I found it difficult to tell A: what I'd just controlled and B: how long the control would last. Especially since you can deal damage to whatever you've hacked. If the mechanics for it were better, I'd be happy to try it out, but I found it way too annoying to deal with as it is now.
