From what I understand, demons rank in the order of hunger, rage, sloth, desire, pride from weakest to strongest. I had an easy time killing off Asunder the Pride Demon, and couldn't help but feel bumped out at my party being taken down by Sloth demons.. twice. =/
Desire demons are also supposed to be stronger than Sloth, yet they are weaker than some of the rage demons I've came across.
Sloth demon overpowered?

Desire Demons are very easy. But I think stronger does not by default mean they are better in battle. The sloth demons I encountered were all quite different though. But I think what counts is their tactics, the way they approach things storywise.
I don't remember fighting a Pride demon though... Unless Uldren was that..

Desire and Pride demons are not strong because of their prowess in combat. They're the strongest due to the insidious affect they have on mortals. They are masters of manipulation and possession, not outright combat.
If the sloth demon's too hard, use the lyrium veins. Or just knock it down to easy

what Sable said, they are ranked more in order of intellect and cunning than combat power, desire and sloth demons in fact try to avoid combat for the most part.

if it is the sloth demon in the fade you are talking about you need to switch between forms to beat him. i found the following the best:
1. fireball with the fireman
2. switch to golem throw boulder
3. stay as golem go in for some melee
4. when near half health switch to spirit and use force prison on him
5. run and grab some lyrium
6. see 1

I'm surprised you had problems with him, but this might be because I went to the circle as the last place before landsmeet and I was decked out with a lot of sweet gear. But then again, I used force field, soooo...

Oh, I'm not talking about having difficulty against Sloth demon in combat. I know exactly what you guys are talking about, how Desire and Pride are strong in areas other than combat.
It merely strikes me as odd though, considering that neither Desire or Pride demons managed to manipulate me, while two Sloth Demons(one in mage tower and one in elven forest) managed to take my party down with sleep.

Because your character is protected by plot armor. Normal characters are not so impervious to their charms.
It is akin to say "I have no idea why Dragons are hard. I took one done at level 10..." The game is designed for you to win.
