Ah well... it's not been ALL bad... I found a room in Kal'Hirol that I'd missed the first time around and got a new quest out of it. Plus, I'm getting more familiar with the maps, which should make subsequent playthrough's a bit easier (goodness knows I could almost go through DAO with my eyes closed after having run through that games sooooo many times).

Then, as if that's not bad enough, I went and made the mistake of clicking on a link without my virus scanner running and of course, picked up a nasty beastie that took a day to find and remove from my system. So... I'm *still* not caught up to where I was before I realized I couldn't make V a W -- I've got all of Blackmarsh facing me, again.
Anywho... enough of the ranting, I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. The first time I went through the Silverite Mines (which btw, I managed to do unbugged twice in a row), I came to a small room just before getting to the merchant and the chest full of all the things from our backpack. One of the things in this room is a locked chest which I opened without any trouble. However, on this second run-through, I'm told I need a key to open the chest. Where did I miss picking up this key? Anyone know?

You get that key from Seranni (Velanna's sister) when she frees you from captivity. You have to pass the persuasion check on one of the responses when you first speak to her. Any other response and you don't get the key iirc.Tigress M wrote...

That would be it! The first time through I used the persuasion line but this last time, I didn't. I'll remember this for the next playthrough. Thanks!

Once you recruit Justice, you end up sparking the final battle. I don't think Velanna is worth keeping anyway, Anders is a better healer and can do some decent damage as well if properly geared.
Edit: my bad, it's actually once all 3 main quests are complete that the final battle triggers.
Hey - just a little topic hijacking here.
With the tomes that reset your characters, how is any mage better at anything that another? I mean, can't you reset Velanna to have the exact same specializations, stats, and spells as Anders?
I actually considered making Ogrhen a Sword n Shield Warrior for giggles. Would he be any better or worse than Justice with a character reset?
I'm just sayin . . . I don't see how any character in Awakening is better than any other except the main. This is not just @ Reika - a lot of people on the boards say things like "so and so is better than Bobby in Awakening." I don't get it.

I agree. I mean, if you aren't going to respec at all then yes, some characters could be considered better "built" and more appropriate for a certain playstyle. But once you respec, all characters are essentially blank slates with stats waiting to be distributed.
This is also true for Origins if you use the respec mod.

And of course, I've got another question... I'm in the Deep Roads under Vigil's Keep and have come to the Circle of the Forsaken where one of the statues lights up when I depress the Tab key, as if I can interact with it. However, I can't seem to find any place to click on the statue. Am I missing the spot I need to click?

Statwise with the respec, they become the same, but you'll have to do a lot of fiddling with tactics. I found you can't keep them on default, otherwise it doesn't always work too well with the changed specs. Not just using the tactic slots to customize how they use their abilities.

Same here. The default tactics are usually a mess and result in a lot of friendly fire from mages.
Yeah, I noticed the mage tactics for the combat mages are whacked. The other characters aren't too bad for the most part.
