I can no longer talk to Shale, use or even view the descriptions of any "shale skills and talents." Is anyone else having this problem, and do they know a way to restore shale without loading a game before this happened (I have just done the entirety of the Dalish quest and do not want to do it again.)

I noticed about 4 quick saves in to Brec Forest (I QS alot) that Shale wasn't using the tactics I set out for him. After pause selecting him I couldn't use any of his shale abilities (like Rock Form, Hurl, Pulverizing Blows) but could still talk to him. Once I got back to camp after the quest, I cannot even speak to him.

Shale is one of my favourite characters, who I have also invested alot of gifts in. So if any one has got a fix, please do enlighten me!

I now have this same issue, started after the landsmeet and loading old saves isn't fixing it. Do you happen to have any mods installed?

I have the same problem.

I noticed that when I turn on Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater Shale's abilities can be used, however when I try to speak witch him I get telleported beyond the area map and there are only dialogue options as it he was never activated.

Any ideas how to repair it?

common bug. something to do with getting disconnected from the server and the DLC content stuffing up. No fix that I've seen yet

Similar issue for me too.



When I talk to Shale the camera is going wild and two options apears



"Use the rod something"

"Leave the statue alone"



That's the conversation for activating him and when I click one of the options my characters teleports to some random location. I like Shale so this made me really frustrated.

I just noticed this exact thing when I decided I wanted to talk to Shale during the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest.

I typed in Shale's Code on this website and there was a message like "Oh great, succes, blabla"(The Message was green, too, so the Code definitely was the right one), but then, there was some kind of Server Problem, i guess, so when I start game there is no possibilty of activating or even downloading Shale. I can't type in the Code again, because the website says it is used now.

Can anyone help?

@Ryukh: this is a common problem. The DAUpdater service probably isn't running on your system. To solve this, see point 0.1.1 in this FAQ: http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613.

Yeah, (un)fortunately you're not alone.

I really hope Bio is working on a fix, I'm not going to start a new game only to find the same bug after another 20+ hours of play. Likewise I don't feel like continuing my current one if it's not fixable.

Same problem with Shale here. Happened after doing Orzamaar. Very annoying!! Hope they fix is asap!!!

I'm willing to play with him when he has his abilities (If I'm connected to the internet he has them, if not he doesnt) and hope they fix it with talking to him soon (he still chips in when talking to other NPCs.)



Problem occured after being disconnected from the internet mid game (I now realize.) I wish Bioware only forced you to unlock content once, rather than be connected to the internet to use it, I have to keep re-equipping my dalish promise ring as well.

I have exactly the same issue. Talking to Shale teleports me outside the map. 60 hours in... NOT starting again!

Looks like it's not Shale exclusive. If you reload your last working save it'll be fine...although I had to trudge through a bit on easy to catch up. Mine bugged when I got to the start of Anvil of The Void ...did it again and it was fine...just save regularly talk to your characters and make sure none of them have mucked up!

I've not played since I got the problem (I don't want to go back in saves 6 hours to have problem again and I'm not going to start a new game and play a whole different character who avoids the DLC, my character is mercenary as all hell and Shale is a perfect companion. Was a perfect companion.)



Actually reverted back to Borderlands.

to make it short, doing the update rrrreally messed up my installation files. I couldnt even upload the game after patching. so i restarted and restarted and since nothing worked, i decided to scan my files. LO and BEHOLD!!! a virus in my bin, exactly where my updated patch installed to!



that's probably why everyone is getting a bug, error, whatever u want to call it. I may be wrong, but something tells me im right. so i downloaded again just a few hours ago, quarantined the downloaded patch, guess what?! trojan something or rather detected. sorry, i can't spell everything out, m not all that good on this techno pc thing. i posted a new thread on this, same category and everything. u ppl might want to check it out to prevent my situation from ever happening to you.

Sounds like you've got a different problem entirely. We know what has caused our problem (a blip in the validation servers or a temporary disconnections whilst playing causes the dlc to reset, thereby resetting Shales dialouge paths. When you try to talk to him the game thinks you should be at the quest location rather than where you are causing it to teleport you outside the map in a attempt to set things right.)

No, a fix is needed. An actual genuine fix. This is content we have PAID MONEY for and it's being completely ignored.

Especially (after a quick search) since some people have had this problem from day one. If this doesn't get fixed by friday,* I'm probably not going to play it again this side of christmas.



* Assassins Creed II and NSMBW come out, plus L4D2, if this game doesn't get me playing it soon it's going to be a 16gb paperweight on my hard drive.
