I had a similar issue Pyro, only the freeze happened after accepting Liara's 'hack the terminals' mission. To fix it, I simply started the LotSB mission (sending Liara to her apartment), which cleared the terminal mission from my journal. This stopped the freezing in the hallway beneath the office.
If you've already completed LotSB then I'm not sure how to help, although I heard that completely disabling shadows would allow you to go through the corridor without crashing, maybe try that?

Thanks for the advice, I might try it out. Where did you hear that? I'd basically given up on playing ME2 to completion at this point.
Here is some advice I received from EA, finally:
You need to please clean boot your system. For your convenience, I am providing the link. Here is the link "http://support.micro...com/kb/929135".
After that you need to empty your temporary folder and end all the background tasks. I am providing the steps for your convenience.
1. Empty your Temp folder to prevent file conflicts.
Restart the system in a clean boot state.
Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R
In the Run box type: %temp% and press Enter
When the folder containing all temporary files opens press and hold the CTRL button and the letter A to highlight all files in that folder
Press the Delete key.
When prompted to verify if the files should be deleted, click Yes.
Any files that cannot be removed can be safely ignored.
Next Steps:
If the system continues blocking access to memory and operating as though the system is below requirements, follow the process for Managing DEP Settings.
To Turn Off DEP for Individual Programs:
Click the “Start” button.
Click “Control Panel”.
Click “System and Maintenance”.
Click “System”.
Click “Advanced System Settings.”
Provide Administrator password or confirmation if prompted.
Under “Performance”, click “Settings”.
Click the “Data Execution Prevention” tab.
Click the radial button next to “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.”
Choose the program(s) you want to add an exception for and click “Add”.
2. Be sure you have the latest drivers available for your video and sound card.

3. End background tasks.

Try cleaning out your Temporary directory. Do not delete the folder itself, open the folder, select all of the contents, and then delete them.
1. Double click on "My Computer"
2. Double click on the C: drive
3. Double click on the "Windows" folder.
4. Double click on the "Temp" folder.
5. Hold the "CTRL" key and tap the "A" key to select all.
6. Tap the "Delete" key on your keyboard and accept the "Are you sure you want to delete these files" prompt.
