i'd like to check the players inventory when he right clicks on an NPC to start a conversation. The check must be done before the conversation starts because some choices in the dialog will depend on what the player has in his inventory.

Not strictly true - you can make a conversation line conditional on a defined flag, which is set in the plot script to reflect the current state of the inventory.gordonbrown82 wrote...

Sometimes that's more convenient. For example, it may be tidier to keep all the plot logic in one place.
