Go with Heavy. Area Charge came up in discussion on the Vanguard thread, but I don't think it got a favorable review. Remember that Vanguards have easy access to Shockwave. Even at level 1, Shockwave can clear out a line of undefended husks with ease.

So only use it on hardcore or above since husks willl be immune to shockwave?

I'd recommend Heavy Charge for all difficulties, especially the higher ones. Husks aren't immune to Shockwave on any difficulty. You just need to lower their armor on higher difficulties. Bring along Mordin or loyal Samara to quickly lower enemy armor.

You don't want to use Charge on Husks anyway. Just make sure you've got Reave and/or Incinerate (or both), no matter if Shep or squadies can use it. Be sure you have some instakill powers (best with fast cd; Pull, Throw, Singularity, Cryo Blast, Neural Shock (area versions are great) to kill Husks once armor is removed (playing Vanguard I recommend squad Cryo ammo for squadies and Shep though Inferno Ammo is better against Scions) - Husks are easy prey, don't get surrounded though, but you can always Charge your way out.

I haven't been able to find a single situation in which area charge is worth it, not a one. For husks there are about a million and one better instakill options on shorter cool down than area charge.

Yeah, I tried to play around with area charge but I was never able to find a situation where it seemed consistently better than heavy charge. It also seems a little unreliable in that the 3m radius doesn't seem to always trigger a physics force hit on enemies that are left with health.

Put at least 1pt in Cryo Ammo, put it on your Pistol, Husk problem gone.

Husks aren't the bogeymen they used to be.

I dunno. I've used area charge on the reaper IFF mission, and that N7 mission with those husks. Have mordin and incinerate, and you area charge, and husks were massacred easily. Not saying it's worth to respec, but it does make husks a joke.

Anything that knocks a husk of it's feet makes them a joke. The best power to use on unarmoured husks is Pull, so I'm not sure why anyone would bother with Area Charge.

This. Area Charge is one of those powers that conceptually sound awesome but in practice are worth about as much as a wet fart compared to your other choice.

There is basically no difference between Heavy and Area Charge. I just find the time dilatation better than greater AoE. Also, I am used to its looks.

I always go with Heavy Charge too. I hate enemies bouncing around anyway, makes aiming pretty difficult. Never tried Area Charge on lower difficulty, guess you're not going to be using shotty often.

Depends on playstyle and point spread really. Personally I like having area reave on a vanguard. However, by doing that, I can't get pull field. Area charge has the same effect as pull field in husk killing ability, except by having area reave, I can have possible 3 area defence stripping powers at my disposal (depending on squad composition) while my character cleans up with area charge and squad cryo.
