As for mods, for BG1 I'd recommend:
Tutu - It's easier to mod than BGT
Spell Revisions - Overhauls all the spells in Baldur's Gate for the better
Spell Revisions Hotfix - A file of hotfixes that needs to replace the one's copied over from the .exe, first you pretend to install the mod so it copies over all the files, then cancel, then copy over the files in the hotfix folder, then resume the installation
BG1 Unfinished Business - Adds in unfinished quests from BG1
BG1 NPC - Gives your NPCs life as they banter and romance etc
Song & Silence - Thief and Bard kits and equipment
Sword & Fist - Fighter kits
Rogue Rebalancing - Adjusts Bards and Thieves for the better, adds new equipment
BG2 Tweaks - Despite the name, it works for Tutu
Item Revisions - Changes all the items in the game so they make more sense, esential
Item Revisions Hotfix - Like the Spell Revisions Hotfix
1pp - Changes the paperdolls of the characters to that of BG1, in my opinion they look much nicer
1pp Avatars
1pp Female Dwarves
1pp Thieves Galore - Will only install if Female Dwarves is installed
Sword Coast Stratagems - Makes BG1 more challenging and different
Easytutu Spawn Randomiser - Changes when enemies spawn
Level 1 NPCs - Brilliant mod, let's you adjust the NPCs so each playthrough can be different, e.g. Safana the Swashbuckler, Edwin the Sorcerer, Ajantis the Cavalier, Garrick the Jester ...
I can send you my WieDU log if you like.
As for BG2, alot from above:
BG2 Fixpack - Essential
Banterpack - Adds more banters to the NPCs
IEP Banters - Adds even more banters to the NPCs
IEP Banters Viconia - Viconia friendship
IEP Banters Mazzy - Mazzy friendship
IEP Banters Yoshimo - Yoshimo friendship
IEP Banters Imoen - Imoen friendship
Unfinished Business - Like the BG1 UB adds unfinished quests and items to the game
Spell Revisions
Spell Revisions Hotfix
D0QuestPack - Alternative endings to quests that already exist plus new ones that blend seamlessly with the games original content
Song & Silence
Sword & Fist
Rogue Rebalancing
Sword Coast Stratagems II - Like SCS1 but more complex
BG2 Tweaks
Refinements - A few refinements, look at the readme if you think necessary, I use it for the shapeshifter refinements
Item Revisions
Item Revisions Hotfix
ATweaks - Even more tweaks
1pp
1pp Avatars
1pp Female Dwarves
1pp Thieves Galore
Level 1 NPCs
Generalised Biffing - Biffs the game so it runs smoother, I only use it if I have a lot of mods installed, it helps a lot too.
Again I can send you my BG2 WeiDU. What's annoying about installing mods is some components needs to be installed before other components from other mods, it can get a bit complicated unless you have a WedDU log to follow or a good set of instructions like the BiG World Mod .pdf.
Gosh that's a lot of text. This place is brilliant for procrastination.

I previously posted on this forum how I tried out Big World Project for it's ease of install (it still takes a hell of a lot of time), but having experience in both, I can say BWP is nice for all the surprises you get, from all the things the mods have put in, but for the thrill of having much difficulty to survive your first days on your own without Gorion and with your meagre equipment, try Tutu.
Use the order as recommended in above link and jaxsbudgie's suggestions and you'll be having a great time.
A favorite of mine is Hard Times for Tutu: increases store prices and removes a lot of the +1 weapons and magic arrows, creating the sense that the Sword Coast really is suffering from an iron crisis and doing badly economically. Thereby making the game harder as well of course.

I wish hard times was really that hard lol. As soon as u get your first +1 weapon/armor you dont have to fear it breaking and money isnt hard to get if your a fanatic hoarder who goes back to town after killing a group of hobgobos and need to unload every scrap of armor and weapon they had to the first merchant they see lol(which i am
Though it should combine well with a certain mod, i cant quite recall the name, that transform most +1 into "fine" weapon/armor which still have the odds of breaking lulz.

Wow that's a big old list! That's exactly what I was looking for thank you. Those mods sound great so if you have a log of what order to install them that would be awesome.
Uploaded them here.
Even went to the trouble to deleting the mods I'd installed from my BG2 WeiDU log that I wouldn't recommend. So yeah, just follow both of those logs and hopefully you won't have any trouble. Remember to do full installs of both games, then patch with the TotSC patch and the ToB patch, then install Tutu. Tutu goes a bit messed up if it's using a modded BG2 directory, so it's always best to install it first.
The BG2 log is a bit more difficult to follow as you have to install components later on. For example, the components for Item Revisions - Item Revisions and Masterwork weapons are installed fairly early, whereas the rest of the mod is installed fairly late. Also don't forget the Hotfixes, they contain fixes that can be very frustrating without. Remember to install Item Revisions and Spell Revisions first, but when the DOS window comes up press Q as soon as you can. Then copy and paste the contents of the IR and SR Hotfixes into the respective folders, it will ask you if you want to replace it, click yes. Then go back into the BG2 folder and resume the installations or IR and SR.

But without it Hard Times the game would even be easier, agreed?Cowboy_christo wrote...

It's the 'Replace many weapons with fine ones' tweak from Sword Coast Stratagems (found on Gibberlings3). With the option that there either affected by the iron crisis and tend to break or not.Though it should combine well with a certain mod, i cant quite recall the name, that transform most +1 into "fine" weapon/armor which still have the odds of breaking lulz.
Yet even without the fine weapons-tweaks - but with the item randomization mod installed - it takes my party usually ages before they have acquired enough of the approriate weapons to feel up to the task of taking on the vampire wolves that stroll around at a certain place with Tutu installed, that can be accessed early on but has to be given a wide berth for weeks.

[Edit]: Just installed BG1.. forgot how quaint the installer was. It thought I didn't have enough space on my HD for a full install and the trailer for Descent 3 cracked me up.

Yeah, it's so old it actually can't comprehend that much free disc space on any computer, hilarious.
