Okay, This is a weird,,, and long one.
I was recently playing ME2 and while doing a manual save the game/console froze. Completely. Had to press the powerbutton on the console to restart it. No big deal there, I thought. I mean **** happens right?
I rebooted the console and began anew. This time, when launching the game, the game/console completely freezes after I pressed start in the start screen. Don't even get to the main menu in the game. I restart the console and I repeat this process several times, but to no avail - the game never reaches the main menu. Basically, I can't play the game.
I thought that maybe the savegame had been corrupted when the console froze the first time - makes sense - but just in case I tried another game out, and it worked perfectly, and to rule out a disc-problem I tried both disc 1 and 2 of ME2 while launching the game and it still didn't work. Then I switched gamer-profile in the xbox dashboard and then launched the game, and then it actually worked. I could play the game! So I seem to have a corrupt ME2-profile on my otherwise working gamer-profile.
The only way I can get around this is to move my ME2-profile onto a USB, and then use the Modio-tool to access the save files and delete the latest save, rehash the file, bake it together in USB XTAF, transfer it back to the console and then launch the game. Then it works... Until when the game randomly freezes again. Then I need to repeat this process. Wtf? My Shep is level 30, and I'm about to play the last mission. Don't feel like starting from the beginning. Any advice? Thanx.
Broken profile?

Yeah, I had this too. It happens if the game crashes during a quick save. It creates a zero-length save that crashes the game when you hit "Start" to get to the load up screen. The only way to fix it is as you describe.
I've been able to cause crashes by by going to the "Load" menu when the game is quick-saving. The only advice i have is to not do anything while the game says its quick saving. Also are your memory cards/XBox hard drive in good condition, not at 100% capacity or anything like that?

Right. I thought I couldn't have been the only one with this problem. But now I actually found a solution that seems to work permanently. This is the way to do it:
First things first: ALWAYS make backups of all profiles that you're going to mess with!
You need two ME2-profiles (one surrogate-profile and the one which is broken). So either create a new one - or use an old one - and then use a USB-stick to transfer that profile to your computer as described in step 1-2. Then follow these steps below with your broken profile:
1. Transfer your ME2-profile onto a USB. Plug it into the computer.
2. Extract your Shepard with USBXTAF and make a backup of that file somewhere. Then delete the Shepard-file inside USBXTAF.
3. Open the shepard-file in Modio, and extract the save files.
4. Then open the surrogate-profile in Modio, choose the File Contents tab. Right-click anywhere in here and choose "Inject file into folder".
5. Then pick any save BUT the last one from your broken profile (preferably the one before that) since the last save is the one which screwed your profile up.
6. Choose the General File Info tab and then Rehash and Resign.
7. Switch back to USBXTAF. Right-click and then "inject" your surrogate-profile.
8. Then File/Close Drive.
9. Now transfer this new profile over to your xbox and then launch the game.
This should solve the problem. Maybe this description is a bit messy. I will try to make a better one where I don't assume you know how these programs work, and see if I can get it stickied
Thanx for taking your time though Tamperous.
