Recruitment order of companions for Awakening

Do NOT talk to him again until you have recruited Sigrun. I'm actually waiting to pick up that quest until I've gotten all my companions and completed all of there side quests because I'm not sure how much that Law and Order quest affects the other companions but I know from experience it certainly messes up Sigrun's.

The sensible thing to do is:
1) Go to Amaranthine. Get the quest to go to Knotwood Hills. Do not, under any circumstances, accept any smuggling related quests (from Constable Aiden or Shady Character) as Tigress says. These can conflict with Sigrun's personal quest. You can do whatever else you like here, at least for now.
2) Go to Knotwood Hills, get Sigrun and do Kal Hirol.
3) Return to the Keep and get her to do the Joining. Do any other quests you fancy here.
4) Return to Amaranthine, go through the arch and turn right to bump into Sigrun's old friend. Return to the Keep, enter the hall and speak to her to trigger Sigruns Roguish Past. You can then return to Amaranthine to complete this quest. Then, by all means, speak to Aidan to get the Law and Order quest (or Smugglers Run from the Shady character if you're a bad sort of person).
At this point you can either go to the Wending Wood, or Blackmarsh. Blackmarsh is where you find Justice. He doesn't need to do the joining, so it's logical to leave him until last. However, if you'd rather do Wending Wood last, you can still do Velanna's joining if you take her back to the Keep before entering the Silverite Mine.
If you do recruit Justice last, he still has a personal quest. Make sure you deal with any outstanding quests you have before speaking to Varel again (you can tell when it's ready for the endgame as the hall will be full of nobles).

I think Law and Order only messes up Sigrun's quest because Mischa will be replaced by the thugs in the city and she won't be able to trigger the cutscene with Sigrun. Better safe than sorry though.
I usually pick up Velanna first because her clan's random encounter is harder to spawn the further the game progresses. Then Sigrun. Put them through the joining. Do all sidequests minus the boards. Recruit Justice and finish everything else up before the final battle.
