You have to unlock the safes/computers in order to move thru the game and it does nothing.  I have a win7/64bit, pentium dual core e5200, 2.5gh, 2gr ram, ATI Radeon HD4600/1GB, directx 11, monitor 1680x1050.  I can play Dragonage Origins without any problems on this system.  Talked to EA about problems, they had me do everything from re-installing, troubleshoot compatability, run as admin, shutting down background processes, and they even tried to get me to rewrite registry.  Eventually EA stopped taking emails at the address I was sending to them.                Spoke to some guy at Gamestop who thought my Directx11 may be the problem.  Suggested I use Direct X9.  How do I do that?    HELP!

Use windows explorer to go to your Mass Effect 2 CD. There is a folder there called DirectX. There is a file at the bottom called DXSetup. If you double click it should install the necessary direct X files to run the game. If you have a digital version of Mass Effect 2 you could go to WWW.microsoft.com , type directX 9 in the search window. It gives you a long list of options, you want to download the installer for directx 9.0 c end user redistributable. It was the first option on the list when I pulled it up, your mileage may vary. You should be able to click on it and it will self install like any other microsoft updates. I hope this helps solve your difficulty.

Thank you, I was able to install the direct x file, but still , I am unable to unlock/bypass the safes. Should I reinstall the game again, install the proper direct x file? Any other ideas? And yes I've had ramen, I prepare mine with frozen asian veggies.

Are you having a problem with the hacking minigame (where you match color patterns), the bypass minigame or both? If it is hacking, one suggestion is to make sure you are using the WASD keys to move your cursor around and then tap the spacebar to lock it in. When I first played the game I thought you could use your mouse to move the box and it doesn't work. If your problem is with the bypass game where you have to match the little hidden buttons there are two things which might work. If you have not already done so, intall the 1.2 patch for Mass Effect 2. One other possibility might be to update the drivers for your mouse and check the settings in your mouse software. You can check for directX problems by going to your start button, click on run and type in dxdiag. Run this program and it will check to make sure that your direct X devices are responding correctly. If all else fails and you decide to re-install ME2, I would suggest that you make a new directory to install the game instead of letting it install to the default location of Program Files (x86). I have heard that there can be problems with program permissions when games are installed to the default location. I hope some of this helps, I know how frustrating it can be, cause I've been in your shoes. PS, once you get to the Citadel, my ramen tagline will make perfect sense.

My problem is with the bypass safe mini-game where you match the symbols by clicking on the buttons. I have reinstalled the game(this time closing out background processes that I was comfortable doing), redid the directx, and started over. Game runs fine except for the bypass wall safe mini-game. I did update my logitech gaming mouse, and reinstalled the 1.2 patch. I am at a loss at what to do next. You have to bypass the wall safe in order to advance thru the game.I think its when the citadel gives you a mission to find and missing agent, he is dead and you need to retrieve info. Does anyone have any ideas?

Ok, I can think of one last thing you might try, in logitech's mouse settings (setpoint), go to the game settings (it uses the icon of a rook from chess in my version) make sure that game detection is NOT enabled. Under game mode settings I have every box checked except for the last one (keep other button assignments). Under speed and acceleration I have mine set to Setpoint implementation and under that checked retain OS settings. Your system sounds pretty similiar to mine and I had problems with the bypass minigame and a similiar mini-game in Alpha Protocol until I made these changes. If this doesn't work I am out of ideas, hopefully someone else here will have some more suggestions.

LostScout, my logitech mouse setting were already on the settings you suggested. I am out of ideas. Would purchasing another ME2 game give me the same problems? I think the problem may be an exe. file missing. From what little I have played the game, I like it and would hate to not play it. Does anyone else have any ideas?

It seems highly unlikely to me that your copy would be corrupted in such a way that a mini-game would fail, but would do so gracefully and you'd have no other problems. Unless you suspect you got sold a pirate copy (e.g. a disc copy that only came on one disc) I don't see why you'd suspect anything is wrong with your copy. As far as .exe files go, there is only one I am aware of that matters when it comes to running the game.

I still have no idea what your problem with the minigame is, exactly. Nothing happens when you click on one of the nodes, so you can't actually do anything in the game? Or the timer is just too fast, and you can't click on a second node before the first one cancels out? Or the minigame's screen never even comes up? Or what?

My problem with the bypass safe minigame is that when you click and match the symbols, the ciruits do not unlock, even after matching all symbols. The timer works okay and keeps going until it runs out. I have tried playing the game w/o playing the minigame, but some missions/assignments require info found in the safes in order to procede.
