- Seeing only your character's back until the big reveal during the game's introduction.
- Bringing Down the Sky DLC. This was a side quest that had a suspenful story and great setting. I especially loved the decision I had to make at the end: Should I kill the terrorist leader at the expense of three hostages and possibly prevent future attacks? Or should I let him go and secure the lives of the three hostages? The omni-tool reward at the end was a great bonus.
- Everything about the Virmire mission. Choosing who I would rescue really hit a nerve and took me by surprise the first time I played the game. I also loved the encounter with Saren by the bomb site. Seeing the look of fear in Shepard's face as she was running from his gunfire was so exciting. Saren's theme music made it all ten times better.
- Sovereign's attack on the Citadel presented a lot of eye-candy moments. I loved scaling the outside of the Citadel tower and being able to view the city above your character's head. The scope presented was hard to accept but nonetheless epic!
- Watching the Normandy fade into the distance while the Flux end credit songs started to play. It made me so anxious to play ME2 two years ago and still makes me excited to continue the story today.
In spite of its weak story, Mass Effect 2 had some great moments as well:
- The Garrus loyalty mission was well made and had an intimate feel to it. I still debate whether I should let Sidonis live or die.
- Speaking of Garrus, I was surprised to see that he is Archangel. I paid little attention to the ME2 advertisements so much of the story and new characters were unknown to me.
- The Collector Mission was a big WTF?! moment yet it was also one of the most tense moments in ME2.
- The running sequence at the end of the suicide mission paired with the dramatic music and not knowing if any of my teammates will die makes this part of the game real memorable to me.

Like many i loved the whole saving the council ending and meeting Sovreign. The emergence of Shepard from the wreckage etc etc. I think one that nobody mentioned yet that i loved on my first ME 2 playthrough was walking into Afterlife the first time. The music and atmosphere were so beautiful and Omega feels so cyberpunk it was awesome.

Yeah, when I walked into Afterlife for the first time my thought was: "Now THIS is a club."

Now, with that said, I was referring to vanilla ME2 (no DLCs).... BUT... The Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC by itself is almost entirely made out of awesomeness, for a moment I had the feeling to play ME1 again, with Liara and Garrus at my side, once again on a mission as a team like it was back when Saren was still a menace and the Reapers were a real and deep mystery. By itself Shadow Broker (the DLC) really catapulted ME2 sky-high in my esteem for it is now part of its canon and I am proud of what it includes and how it was made so brilliantly by BioWare, their very best DLC of the entire franchise so far (in my opinion).
Still, with all that said, ME1 to this day still holds my most cherished and memorable, poignant scenes of the franchise. There are so many that it's extremely difficult to pick just one, but I think that the one moment that really got to me on a near-personal level is when Shepard finds out that the Normandy is being grounded at the Citadel docks, it felt like a treason, a damn back-stab that I seemed powerless against while the fate of the entire galaxy's living beings was at stake, and then even more poignant was when Shepard seems to crumble under the pressure and insanity of the situation onbaord the Normandy, and Liara/Kaiden/Ashley come just in time and offer their hand to their commander to bring him/her up standing in face of the dangers and obstacles, and the following near-kiss with the timely interruption from Joker, and eventually having to find out what to do with Anderson about the Normandy and finding out a plan that ends up in a mutiny of sorts to get the hell out of there ASAP to deal with the important tasks at hand and let those politicians rot behind...
That whole moment in ME1 just gets to me each time, more so then the very ending which I love anyway.

"They've never had to stand and fight the best of us. That's you. I don't know if they can feel fear, but we're damned sure going to give them the opportunity. Hit them hard. One way or another, it ends here.
Edit: Also when they showed me the new Normandy. I still get chills when they reveal it.

Shepard is my battle master, he has no equal.
That right there was just made of awesome.
Also pretty much anything Zaeed says is also amazing.
Take him to the bar on Omega and listen to his comment about bars.

The greatest moment is yet to come because it will be in ME3.
I agree.
I liked almost everything on ME2, but playing ME1 after the second game was simply amazing. Everything, except maybe some sidequests, was pure awesomeness. The Eden Prime battle, becoming a Spectre, exploring the Citadel, recruiting the old squaddies and talking with them, saving Liara, the battle of Virmire, and the Battle of the Citadel with that crazy final scene, absolutely epic. In ME2, there are the reunions with the old squaddies and some recruit/loyalty missions, like the Tali's ones (really good), and then the Suicide mission, but not too much compared to ME1.
The GREATEST moment, for me, was only one:
Fighting the Shadow Broker with Liara, and reconciliating with her. With the magic quote about marriage, old age and childs. E P I C .
Waiting for the epic moments of ME3, obviously...
