Sincere apologies, I know this topic has been beaten into the ground but I'm still lost.

I recently bought Mass Effect for PC and I've been having issues that apparently many had too, but after some searching of topics I'm still unsure on what actions to take (a lot of people talking "soundcards", "vram" - jargon)

Almost like clockwork, Mass Effect begins to stutter and audio appears to fail and become out of sync (lots of noise, skipping, "bzzzt", y'know) after around an hour of gameplay, no matter what graphic settings I have (lowering texture detail buys some time).

Excuse me, but I'm just gonna throw out what I think are specs for my computer so bear with me for my computer noob-ishness.

OS: Win7 32-bit

Processor: Intel Core2 Quad (4 CPU's @ 2.40 GHz)

RAM: 3.25/8.00 GB usable

Graphics card and VRAM: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275
Total Graphics Memory: 2303 MB
Dedicated video memory: 896 MB

Soundcard: I'm not sure - all Windows says is "High Definition Audio Device" Image IPB

If I left out anything (important) let me know. Is my "rig" sufficient?

Just for the record, I've played Mass Effect 2 with full graphic settings and in HD without ever encountering a problem. Strangely interesting but somewhat infuriating, Mass Effect requires more of my computer than ME2.

I've heard that ME is incredibly CPU hungry (which I've noticed), but I could be hearing wrong.

Any help (that doesn't include a beating for reviving a repeated issue) would be hugely appreciated. I want my Mass Effect experience to be as smooth and enjoyable as ME2.

Thanks in advance,

- Chris

Sorry for bumping but I forgot to mention that framerate and audio gradually degrade until a lenghty cutscene makes the video jumpy and then the audio glitchy

Try updating the all (firstly, the graphics) drivers.

Also, what is your RAM, GPU, CPU and VRAM usage and temperatures over time?

Temperature: HWmonitor
CPU usage/memory: Task Manager
GPU/VRAM: GPU-Z (check "continue refreshing while GPU-Z is in the background" and stay on Sensors tab)

It might tell us some info later on, but do the driver update first.

Just checked - all drivers are already up to date (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 being at version 258.96, the latest).

I think it's an overheating issue, my computer is fairly far away from the nearest window. I will monitor my system status for an hour and see what's happening.

In the meantime, if anyone else thinks they have the solution, please share. :)
