Nice video. Have you decided whether or not you're going to keep Slam and ignore Pull?

I just did Horizon. I feel like I'm getting a lot better at the vanguard in general, as I survived going into the red much more than usual by charging as soon as I got low on health. I still have to pause quite a bit.

I also chickened out of the two scions fight at the end and just used the Cain on them. I'm dreading the Reaper IFF mission, lol.

Ain't no shame in that. The Scions well tear you up if you don't go at them right. :P

The Reaper IFF is beautiful chaos as a Vanguard.  At that point in the game, you should have basically as much survivability as you ever will.  And you can just cruise around in the midst of the Husks and Scions, Charging when your shields fall or you get hopelessly surrounded.

Ya the Reaper IFF is lots of fun for a Vanguard, the Reaper ship it the one u should be dreading. The moving platforms, and the off angles makes charge screwy. At least for me. I'd get a lot of charging in place.

Agreed.  This comes up a lot and the most commonly suggested solution is to get in front of cover and then Charge.  Charging from behind cover on the platforms doesn't seem to work.  Even when Charging from a spot in front of cover, it's not guaranteed to work, at least not in my xbox experience.

Did jack mission, and that hint Iposted about firing while in charge always getting a headshot - does not happen all the time. Not sure why it happens sometimes and not others. It does always fire after charge animantion is over, but does not always result in a headshot.

@ryoldschool-

That only works if you're aiming directly at the enemy when you charge. If you are aiming off to the side of them (with target still focused on them tho) then when you charge you will come out still facing to the side still. The way it works is your position is always moved to about a meter from them on a direct line from you to them but your orientation is never changed. Try it.

One other thing I noticed on xbox is that the best time to consistently hit a target with a squad power is in the middle of your charge animation because the target is guaranteed to stay there for the whole duration.

Ok... I'm starting to get to the point now with this class that it isn't much fun anymore. This stupid charge bug has gotten me killed about 3 times on my current mission. It's not fun when your main ability bugs out and then you get killed because of it.

My personal experience with Charge blocks:
1 ) If you have backed into a wall/corner - you might not be able to Charge.
2 ) If you are taking cover behind a square block (say: South: usually not at the corners) and a Krogan is walking towards you along the East/West of the cover (usually pretty close to you), you might not be able to Charge (usually you cannot even shoot them even if you have a "lock" on them).
3 ) If you get hit by something that "stuns" you while you are preparing to Charge (really only a split second), Charge can be canceled.

As your play style gets more aggressive, these problems will mostly "disappear"

Just keep trying - the Vanguard is a very exciting class.

Only downside of a Vanguard is - When I got use to it... I find other classes hard to play - tis hard to get from Point A to Point B the traditional way.

Indeed Shadow Broker is a joke to the Vanguard charge + claymore crushes him in no time at all:devil:

Cause I hate it and cause I'm purposely using as little DLC as possible. Also, one shotting would run counter to warp bombing after charge.

GPS is actually the worst possible choice for a Vanguard. That's because it has only 3 projectiles (and the second and third ones do lower damage than the first) instead of 8 pellets and it is extremely difficult to proc Inferno/Cryo on the enemy. Even if Inferno does proc (though you need lots of damage upgrades/modifiers to have the first 2 projectiles strip the whole shield/armor/barrier - totally not possible in the early game) it's not doing much health damage then.

Katana beats GPS by a mile for Vanguards. :)

And Eviscerator beats Katana by a mile. I eat most enemies for breakfast with full powered Inferno ammo + Full Charge + Eviscerator shot in the face on Hardcore.

I'm with sinosleep. Hate the Geth Shotgun. I got the Firepower Pack, tried them all out and never use any them. Squadmates use it/them. I still prefer the Locust.

When I did Jack's mission I tried both geth and evi. They both work about the same, but I was concerned with the three vs eight pellets as mentioned above. I ended up using evi because you can go thru a lot of ammo with geth using charged shots ( overkill a lot of times ). Sinosleep is right to use non-dlc gear for a beginners guide { I always hated examples using gear I did not have, like the dr-pepper visor you can't get anymore and the Incisor before they offered it }. I enjoy the videos - never knew that the mercs in Garrus mission entered thru the window one-at-a-time like that in the gunship battle. As far as the firepower pack weapons go - on a soldier they are great and give good replay value to this game.

I'm just running an Hardcore Vanguard and I like Dominate : very useful for unreachable foes (the heavy mercs). It is perfect with Champion (better cooldown and duration).

I'll probably go with that build, any comment appreciated, since I'm not really used to the Vanguard :

Inferno Ammo

Squad Cryo (fifth)

Heavy Charge (first priority)

Shockwave 3 (third)

Pull 1 (fourth)

Champion (second priority)

Dominate 6

1 point left

Im sorry but that's just not true IMO. It has 3 projectiles that's going to do considerate damage as effectively as the 8 pellets, not charged. Charged its going to do even considerably more. I have never found it difficult to proc Inferno/Cryo on the enemy, in fact quite the contrary it procs very often in my experience.

GPS beats Katana in almost every way, especially for a Vanguards.

For my Vanguards i find the GPS to be fan-frigging-tastic. Not charged its a more powerful Katana, with better range, a slightly better fire rate, and no problem procing. Charged it does even more one shot damage than the claymore, leaving u with more powerful Katana to mop up the rest. Although early on it pores through its ammo, which can be frustrating, i find that gun to be an outstanding weapon in the hands of a Vanguard. There nothing quite like charging a charged shot right in an enemies face ^_^.
