What's up with the bug eyes, Bioware?

Jeepers creepers, where'd you get those peepers?

Well it's a terrible picture of poor Cass up there but yeesh, her eyes are uh, unnerving. I thought it might be intentional and she might just be all hopped up on lyrium or something (some people thought it might be her eye makeup?) but then I saw that cap of Bethany from the leaked gameplay footage thread and she had the bug eyes thing going on too. I hope this is something that's going to be fixed because it's pretty distracting.

I considered that it might just be due to the blurry screen grabs but if I recall correctly a few people who played the demo commented on the eye weirdness too.

A better pic of Cass, who appears to have retracted her eyeballs back into her skull:

So what's going on? A sudden catastrophic drop in Thedas' atmospheric pressure? Have Beth and Cass been licking drell in the Bioware Green Room or maybe found where those other deep mushrooms grow? You know, the "special" kind. It's really going to detract from the gravitas of your dialogue if we have sudden crazy-eye moments during serious dramatic scenes.

It's a new epidemic plaguing Thedas, it is know as "googly eyes". The thing is, it only effects people with black hair.

The bugginess of the eyes seems to reduce with the quality of the screenshot.

But Varel has gray hair. Maybe it used to be black. And then there's the question of why Hawke remains unaffected. I theorize Hawke is protected by his/her sweet candy shell. <---buff from eating Nutella

I wish I had a picture to convey how funny I find that first picture by emulating it.

All I can do is:

I thought the exact same thing when I saw that screen of Bethany.  "Her eyes... they bulge".  Missy Hawke looks okay imo.

I can just picture this happening:

Cassandra: Tell me about this "Hawke"
Varric: Well I----
Cassandra: @_@
Varric: Who-oa hey! I'll tell you everything you want to know, just....don't...look at me for awhile, ok?

Bethany looks positively murderous in that screen shot. Perhaps she is eyeing up Hawke's jar of nutella?

She looks like she's trying to set her sister on fire with her mind.

Also Bethany's eyes looked weird when checking out those darkspawn in the leaked gameplay, I don't know but something about eyes in Dragon Age doesn't add up, like they have some weird shapes or something.

I think Varric is just flashing Bethany off camera each time her eyes are bugged out like that on screen.

At least they are maintaining odd facial expressions (in regards to Bethany in the second pick). They have high shoes to fill with ME 2 raising the bar in that regard.

It sounds like the OP never had Bug Eye sex with Morrigan. Man, that was awesome.

Disclaimer: I...kind of like the way Bioware animates eyes in their games.

GAAAAHHHH!!! *Leaps away from the screen*

That pic of Cassandra is creepy. Like, you could weaponize that stare. Bug Eyes attack, causes enemies to break ranks and run in panic.

Bioware does generaly do a great job with eye animations, but then, didn't they have a whole art department devoted to them? I remeber seeing that eyes are sometimes considered the most emotive part of the face.

One of my employees girlfriend was making the exact same facial expression at me after we were done with a job and I tell you what. That **** does 100% make you feel like they are trying to kill you WITH THEIR EYES

Its called Grave's Disease- solution: iodide. Get some iodide to Thedas, STAT, BioWare.

Much rather have Morrigan's squinty glare than buggy eyes
