hell yeah dual rail extensions. i dual rail on the vanguard. i never had the need to fire forever, and i wanted th most damage while i was going to be firing. sometimes dual frictionless and HE rounds are pretty sweet on the pistol too. if it wasnt effective, it sure was funny.
Spectre Master Weapons-Over-powered or not?

On the Specter X guns, I always ran Frictionless X, Scram Rail X, and Tungsten/schredder mix. I tried the Rail Extension but found for me they overheated without watching in long fights so I took the slightly less damage, and lower heat of Scram Rail not really thinking the 4% made too much difference with more shots.
I don't like any bullet that takes away from damage, or rate of fire, this is why I never used the shield penetrating or Explosive ammo past the first time I played.

This combo works well on any class even without weapon skill:
Spectre X shotgun with High Explosive X and 2 rail extension VII's.
Spectre X sniper with same.
Shoot one for big explosion and overheat then quick weapon swap to the other and shoot it. By the time you swap back to the first it is cooled down so you can shoot it again.
This is a great way to tear thru the Benezia encounter on any difficulty.

When I use a rail extension in a pistol, I'll run markman (especially master) to deal with the extra heat. I admit that there's not really that much difference in damage between a scram rail x and a rail extension VII though. This also works reasonably well for an assault rifle soldier since you can use back to back overkills for heat control on an AR.

Somewhat related: in ME1, I've found that giving teammates who can't learn Sniper Rifle a loadout that includes High Explosive rounds on their rifle means that they only have to come close. I love watching them miss a distant target and still send the enemy flying. It's like having portable artillery with me.
Of course, I'm the sort who will park the Mako behind a terrain, get out, and snipe at an ememy at the very edge of visible range. If there's a group, they'll start firing back, and that usually triggers the two squadies to join in even if they wouldn't normally fire at that range.
