Hi guys,

Dave Cook here from UK gaming site NowGamer. Hope you are all doing good and looking forwward to the launch of Dragon Age II, I know we are :)

Yesterday we interviewed Mike Laidlaw at Bioware about creation of Dragon Age II. We thought you guys might like to see what we chatted about. You might know a lot of this stuff already as big fans of the series, but we hope you get something cool out of it. Thanks again guys, feedback is always welcome!

Any journalist who picks Wrex as his DP knows what's what. I'll give it a read :)

good interview, like you said there wasn't anything really new in it but it's a good read for people who haven't heard much about the game.

did you get to play the demo?
the armor of warrior hawke really looks good (i'm not talking about the one with the fur around the neck but the one after the exaggeration part) if i remember correctly i'd say it was a mix of a massive armor like cailan's with shoulder pads similar (but not as spiky) to the dwarven massive armor, and as for color i think it was black with some silver and red lining to it. a bit hard to describe what i've seen over a month ago.

Great read Dave, thanks alot for keeping us in the loop. It's always appreciated :) I actually didn't know about the the new 'rivalry' system in party interaction either, so I was very pleasantly suprised to read about that!

@Darklord_PT Yeah I made the mistake of calling him a Darkspawn in my question, but I'm too honest to edit the question to mask my mistake :)

@GehnTheGrey Yeah Rivalry sound cool, I wonder if characters could eventually turn evil?

@aaniadyen Sure do, and they sound really messy too :D

It's weird how this interview isn't getting as much attention as I thought. I mean, it's true there isn't any big exciting news in it (Aside from mage finishers, which I think have never been confirmed until now), but there's good info that puts things in perspective. Like having skill trees instead of a more linear skill system like in DA:O, the differences between Origins combat and combat in DA2, and a more detailed description of the framed narrative structure and how it'll apply to the game.

i'm looking forward to seeing this rivalry system in action, i think it could be quite an improvement to origins in terms of roleplaying.

Informative interview. Thanks. Found this bit interesting:

Well if you have Mighty Blow or a specific rogue kind of backstab ability, instead of taking a new ability when you level up you can choose to enhance them. These enhancements are pretty significant as they can add new properties, increase damage, widen radius and so on.

So as the player, you can choose between going a more general route and saying, ‘Well I’m going to take a ton of different spells so I’m like the everyman toolbox.’ Or, you can be more of a specialist and put every point you have into specific spells because you want them to be absolutely maximum in terms of what they can do. So I think this offers a lot more variety in terms of how you level up.

Yeah, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be one best OP build for each class so it's all wasted variety.

Well the Fade is an incredibly significant locale in Dragon Age II. That feeling of the surreal grounded in the real is what makes the Fade stand out, and it’s almost a license for us to take off some of the limits. We will be bringing the Fade back for sure in Dragon Age II. In terms of how central it will be, I think there’s some very critical moments tied to the Fade but I don’t want to go into too many details.

So the Fade is coming back. Actually looking forward to it.

Good interview too.

I liked the interview, very detailed.

The information about importing an origins save into DA2 was very helpful.

Funny how Mike Laidlaw did a good job at dodging page 4's first question.

Which is expected mind you, this is Bioware after all, information locked up nice and tight.
