I just started playing Storm of Zehir and I am encountering a few problems that need to be fixed or I just cant continue this game.

1. My Wizard, Cleric, and Druid will not cast spells on their own. When a battle happens they will rush in and start attacking with their weapons only. I have fooled around in the character behavior but nothing seems to work! If I take control of one of my characters that is not the party leader, then only he will start casting his Warlock spells but no one else will cast on their own unless i physically choose a spell and make them cast. I tried taking off the melee combat so they will only use spells and ranged weapons, but I dont like that because I want them to use their meele combat skills when they need to. I want them to use their spells first and once they are done casting available spells then run into meele combat. I tried taking off the knockdown behavior too. My behaviors are all screwed up now so I dont even know how I wanted them in the first place. Any suggestions?

2. I thought that this game started you off at level 4 or so. Why was I able to import my character from the OC and start as a 17 Warlock, 3 Fighter? Is this supposed to happen? Should I start the game over and Import my level 1 character from the OC?

3. The overland map is a good idea but it seems that I can never get to where i need to go because of so many encounters. I literally finish a battle and once it reloads to the overland map, I am already attacked by a new encounter. I dont have any time to even move! Is this just part of the game that I have to deal with?

1. Setting their combat tactics to "power" or "overkill" casting mode should override your casters doing melee, but it is supposed to make them not conserve spells as much. Setting their range to "far" will keep them from being too close to enemies at first, so they can shoot off some spells and then go into melee if the AI decides to be halfway smart.

2. Only new characters, or those under level 4 [or whatever the starting point is] will be given enough experience to get to that point. Imported characters of a higher level will not be reduced back down to level 4, so no, it isn't really a bug. If this is your first time playing the expansion, it might actually be helpful to keep your warlock with you so that the fights are easier and you can spend more time on the plot and figuring out how things work.

3. An unfortunate side effect of the overland map is the unspoken requirement for a ranger or druid in your party. If you want to avoid fights, you'll need a ranger/druid that has points in the skills "hide," "move silently," and "survival." Hide and move silently will greatly help you avoid encounters, and survival will help you detect them at a much farther range, so you know when something is coming. BUT! Make sure the ranger/druid is the first person in your party in the overland map, otherwise the skills won't work. Click on the character's portrait to change the person to the party leader (at least I think that's how it works).

1. Most likely your party is so grossly overpowered for the encounters you face that casting ANY spells is a total waste and the AI won't do it, because they can simply crush the enemy in melee and conserve spells. Remember that SoZ is for level 4 characters.

2. You don't have to play SoZ with your OC character. In fact story-wise it makes no sense for you to do that. Just create 1 - 4 new characters for your SoZ party and level them up to level 4.

3. Your Overland Map avatar needs Hide OR Move Silently skill to avoid those encounters. For practical reasons it's best if that's the first, "main" SoZ character, because the game sometimes switches control to him. Many other skills are also very usefull. Best class choices for that "scout" include Rogues (best because of many skillpoints per level), Rangers, Monks and Druids. But other classes can work as well.

If you have a warlock. Set them on overpower if you want them to cast spells. I find that helps with my hellfires especially when they have their constitution down by a lot, though i take advantage of the constitution protection spell glitch, unless that got fixed...

1. Already answered above.

2. Aslo already answered, but to expand on what Haplose said - SoZ is set timeline-wise at the same time as the OC & MotB, so your character from the first 2 parts is off doing their thing. SoZ is intended to be used with brand new characters.

3. The suggestions above are good, but there is also this community member made override that reduces the number of random encounters on the overland map: SoZ Overland Encounter Reducer (v1.0)
