heyas;

  like some other folks, i'd like to make some pants-only clothing.  i figure i would noodle around with editing the noble/commoner clothing items for that.  however... until i get the sucker into a modelling program, i have no idea what i'm doing. :X

so i need...

1:  tools links and how to find the model i want to export and modify.  (i think i saw this on the reskinning tutorial, but it was mostly 'guess what the file name is'...!?)

2:  tools to export the sucker from the game and get it into a 3d app.  and... whats the currently link to gmax?  i presume one needs to use gmax or blender.

3:  tools to export the sucker from the 3d app and get it into the game.  (someone made a 3ds import/export util, right? i know where that is... somewhere in my bookmarks....)

4:  detailed, step-by-step instructions on where/how to do the 2da and all that technical rigamarole to get the thing into the game, and useable in the game and toolset.

   i've been poking around on the wiki and here in the forum, but haven't found quite what im looking for.  any links appreciated!  thanks!

1 - The easiest way to browse and extract models is via DATool. Unfortunately Adinos appears to have abandoned it, so it's a bit flaky on occasion, but is sufficient in most instances. Use the Browse Models and Save All options to view and extract models of interest.

2 - You can use any 3D app, but there may be difficulties with animated models if you have to go through multiple format conversions. Max/Gmax and Blender are the primary export routes, so it makes sense if you have no modelling experience to start with those. The Max/GMax script is far more advanced than the Blender one, so that would be my recommendation. You can download GMax here - http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

3 - For GMax, you'll need Eshme's DA:O Model and Animation Import Export script. That will both import native DA models and export them as well.

4 - Your question is a bit vague. I presume you are asking how to extend item variation GDAs and create UTIs? There are existing tutorials on that.

Heya,

1. I use the DATool to see the model I want and extract it http://social.bioware.com/project/41/
You will probably need extract the LOD files too using the toolset, but once you know the file's names it is easier to find.

2 and 3. The tools to import/export the models from/to 3d app are: if you use max/gmax: http://social.biowar...m/project/2336/ and if you use Blender: http://social.bioware.com/project/899/ . I usually use both, Blender to model/sculpt/texture and gmax to rig/animate.

4. the 2da editing will depend heavily on what you are trying to do, to make a pants-only clothing you need to extract the clothing_variation.2da using the toolset, but it is useful only when you get the model done.

If you need more details on how to go into any of those steps, let us know.

Edit: oh... haven't seen the previous post...:huh:
