They are relatives. You can find out exactly how in DA2, but it's nothing earth-shattering if that's what you might be assuming.

So I assume there's no tardis involved? Shame.

Fereldan will seem pretty liberal in terms of Mage freedom in comparison to Kirkwall.

It's time for Hawke to change that then.

Oh don't worry he will ;)

It is the default surname for the human mage PC.

Just a nitpick - it is the human mage's ONLY surname. Your mage warden can't stop being an Amell any more than the human noble can stop being a Cousland.

I always thought that Lothering was a bit of a strange place for an apostate to hide seeing as it has a bunch of Templars and even more Templars pass through it on searches for Flemeth/

Hide in plain sight? Or maybe he didn't spend all his time in Lothering and only recently arrived.

Remember that all the orgin stories occur at one point. The difference between the varied orgins is that in the players orgin  duncan is there to safe your hide. if you have a different orgin the human mage will most likely die because he helped jowan escape and was executed or died during uldred revolt .

Or hell, he could survive all that and die when the Warden chooses to annull the circle. Or the Warden keeps the Circle and he dies during the archdemon attack. Or he survives even past that and simply stays obscure.

Or the mage failed the Harrowing if you didn't play a mage.

I doubt it .
It would make the other Wardens look  irrelevant .

Are they still relatives if you don't play as a mage?

I would think that is the case.

nothing as been said to suggest otherwise........

afterall, you still have the same family members, regardless of your class..............

If your import isn't a human mage than if the human mage still exists in the DA world than he/she probably either died during the Harrowing or was killed during the mage uprising either way he/she will be out of the picture and probably talked about far less than if they had been the Warden.

That would be very interesting to hear if the human mage is still around when we import other origin characters.

Hawke's mother is the mage warden's father's brother's uncle's cousin's former room mate.

In the dalish elf origin some lady tells you that your mother just left you after your father died. You think they would explain what happened to her is some very minor way?

Should I jump right in and make a Mage right now... Is it worth it? I have a badass cousland and it seams like his choices are going to be less interesting. The if I had a Mage or a dailish to transfer( dalish because of the party member from origins)
