Based on the info that we know so far, does anyone else feel like they are gently "pushing" us to play as Mage Hawke?  Or that Mage Hawke is the "default" or "canon" Hawke?

The Hawke in the trailer and promo art is a mage.

Hawke's mother is an Amell, most likely related to the Human Mage Warden in Origins.

Hawke's father and sister are both apostate mages.

The epic Staff of Parthalan is a family heirloom, owned by a powerful mage ancestor who fought for mage freedom.

And, the concept of mage vs Templar/Chantry for freedom seems to be one of the driving plot points in the game.

Mayber the writers, including the great and wise David Gaider, could please address this.

But, it just feels like they are gently pushing us to play as Mage Hawke if we want to really feel connected to the story.

If we play as Warrior and/or Rogue Hawke, will our strong mage bloodline and ties still come into play in the story, even if Hawke isn't a mage herself?

Would playing another class like Warrior or Rogue actually open up unique plot points that are not available to Mage Hawke ( and thus encouraging us to play through the game as multiple classes )?

For example, perhaps Warrior Hawke can become a Templar, or her strong mage bloodline manifests itself in her allowing her to become a Spirit Warrior, and these will affect our story?

I just hope that one class is not going to be favored at the expense of the other classes........

Your sister is a mage, remember. Your family is always going to be concerned with the Templar/Chantry conflict. And there are plot opportunities that only open up if you don't play a mage.

But are there also plot oportunities that only open up if you play  a mage?

No, we hate mages. In fact, nobody will give you quests for the entire game if you're a mage. You just watch a cinematic of Hawke crying in a corner, excluded by the cruel, cruel world.

Yes, of course there are. We wouldn't include one without the other.
