Does anyone else feel like we are being "pushed" to play as Mage Hawke?

Sorry if this ofends you, but you mind lawful more than right? In a dark fantasy setting?

Yeah, outlaw choise means you want what best for mages and only for mages. Lawful choise how ever, thinks what best for others, not what is best for mages. I don't like to play selfish roles, where I put my own needs before others.

How so? I don´t think we know anything so far of the plot. Chantry is middle age church, so kicking it down the power ladder could even be necessary and good for everybody.

Anyway, I want the best for eveybody, and I´ll work for it. If it isn´t possible I´ll go for the most wronged group, not the majority. If no group is worth it, I´ll go my own if I can, as in The Witcher, both groups´ methods made their ideals pointless to me, so I left them to fight themselves and minded Geralt´s own bussiness.
I just hope we aren´t forced to choose between two obvious wrongs without that choice.

Yeah, but who says we can make that choise. It seem so far for me that you can't ignore situation, if you think both sides are wrong. Usually Bioware allways force players to choose even when they don't want to choose. We will see it soon, when game comes out.

Actually, I think BW are the masters of "take a third option" plots.

Mary's point was that you are a part of it whether you play a mage or not, because your sister is an apostate mage.

Yeah, but because "my" sister is apostate, doens't mean I have to be apostate, does it?
So, the question, is player mage also forced to be apostate because story? Meaning do we have any choise?

In Origins you were forced to be a Grey Warden. You could not avoid the Blight. In DA2, if you choose to be a player mage, you are considered an apostate because you're outside of the Chantry's jurisdiction. You cannot avoid the Chantry/Templar conflict. It's not so different, is it?

And why wouldn't you want to be an apostate? You would otherwise be stuck in the Circle under the Templars or be a Grey Warden again.

Indeed--since Hawke won't be a Grey Warden, you'll be an apostate by default unless you report to nearest mage Circle after fleeing Lothering, with no intention of leaving.

And if you did that, there wouldn't be much of a game.Posted Image

That's true. I played human noble warrior origin once and I could immidieatly see everything. Ferelden, the need to protect it, the grey wardens...
Play as a mage and you have no ties to whatever and all the game seems secondary to what really matters for your character.

That may have been true for you, but that doesn't mean it was true for everyone.

Not really.

I never said the Warden was royalty. They're just a noble. And back in the day if you were even remotely related to a noble then that made you of noble blood.

and yes, there is stuff to support the fact s/he came from the Free Marches.

Like this.

Hakwe's mother's maiden name is Amell, and her side of the family is
nobility and lives in Kirkwall. The "Hawke" family name is not
nobility. [David Gaider - 09:22] NEW - 09/15

From the "What we know" thread.

Well crap. Now we technically have two Human noble origins.

The human mage Warden is not from the Free Marches.  If they were, why would they wind up in the circle of Ferelden?  Also, the mad hermit in the Brecilian Forest asks you were you were born, and the human mage can answer "Highever" or "Denerim," but not Kirkwall or or any Free Marches city.

Maybe you should pass on DA2 then.  Seriously.  Because even if you aren't a mage, yourself, it appears that Hawke did not report Bethany or her father (apostate mages) to the Chantry at any point before the story of the game begins.  That would have been the "lawful" thing to do, and yet Hawke (most likely) didn't do it--instead, she "selfishly" put her family first.

I would play as a mage anyways though.
