Does anyone else feel like we are being "pushed" to play as Mage Hawke?

Your sister is a mage, remember. Your family is always going to be concerned with the Templar/Chantry conflict. And there are plot opportunities that only open up if you don't play a mage.
Thanks Mary!!
I'm actually relieved to hear that!
A scenario that I'm hoping to see in the game is that if you play as Warrior Hawke and become a Templar, you have the option to side with the Templars ( and thus create conflict with your family ) or "go rogue" and defy the Chantry. Thus you become an outcast Templar who sides with the mages, and adding another reason why Cassandra, as a Seeker, is so interested in you.
Or, as a Warrior, you can become a Spirit Warrior, which can be explained as your strong mage bloodline/lineage manifesting itself in a different manner.

That would be an interesting game. "press x to sob uncontrollably" "new quest, move to the other corner and shake your fist at the heavens." "press square to drink until the pain stops."Mary Kirby wrote...

But are there also plot oportunities that only open up if you play a mage?
No, we hate mages. In fact, nobody will give you quests for the entire game if you're a mage. You just watch a cinematic of Hawke crying in a corner, excluded by the cruel, cruel world.
Yes, of course there are. We wouldn't include one without the other.

These are very interesting scenarios to me. I'd really like to see them as available options. There must be something along those lines, as we weren't forced into any particular way of playing in DA:O, so there has to be a way to play other than 'my family are apostates, so I must be an apostate or against the Chantry.'jhawke wrote...

He's also forcing me to buy whatever DLC comes out.
He also won't share the TV remote. Jerk.

So far mage Hawke feels HN Origin in plot importance.
I think the "importance" of the HN origin in DA:O--in relation to the other origins--is way overstated, and is usually advocated by people who are (surprise!) fans of that origin.
I'm more a fan of the Dwarf Noble but...
Human Nobles get a reference in Warden's Keep.
Human Nobles can become King / Queen.
Human Nobles get a lot of references in dialogue as "Oh, my lord!" and such instead of going "So... you're not human/ you're a mage, that's cool" or something.
Most of these references play out in the biggest / important portions of the game.
And a few others.

That must be the same guy who came to my house and forced me to import my U/S warden into Awakening thereby cheapening his death. That guy really gets around.

And I felt that way, too! I felt like the Cousland HN origin seemed to be the "default" or most important origin, story wise. Now, I didn't mind that actually, because HN origin was my favorite.
But now, we only get one origin. So, that's why I was somewhat concerned that one class seemed to be taking precedent over the others.
But, based on Mary's comments, it seems that won't be the case.....

did anyone else notice in the "destiny" Trailer Hawke is a Blood mage? or was it just me who was shocked by that? haha
no, I noticed it too. Didn't know Hawke was a blood mage until the devs confirmed it.

That said, I was feeling pushed towards playing as a mage. I'm glad we'll get some love for playing non-mages though.
Maybe we'll get some item that would work for the warriors or rogues? Doubtful, but playing mage does interest me a lot more in DA2 either way.

I actually thought trailer Hawke was like a combination of all 3 classes based off how quick he was, the heavy armor, and of course the magic. I was suprised when the devs said otherwise.

Can I request you have the animation team make that cinematic of Hawke crying and have it play in place of the game over screen? That would be epic. And a nice treat for us social network fans.

Like I said, I don't want to debate this, but I still think a lot of this is subjective. As a mage, I got plenty of references that were more interesting than just "hey, you're a mage!" and in fact got referred to as "my lady" more than a few times.

She forced my Aeducan to crown Harrowmont and my Brosca to crown Bhelen.
I also didn't appreciate her making my City Elf warden save the alienage slaves.

To be quite honest, this did really annoy me. I always play rogues as my main but it does seem like you will be the odd ball if you don't become a mage. You come from a great family line of mages and your sister gets the magics and you are just some girl/guy with a sword. It isn't going to keep me from being a rogue first but it is annoying...unless there is some secret payoff for not being a mage in a story about mages.
But your family still houses an apostate. There's a lot of story potential there even without the whole being-an-apostate yourself. Hell, considering how your father is / was an apostate that would throw more wrenches into the gear. If anything, it'll probably be similar to the City Elf Male / Female differences. They roughly lead up to the same story but just have different scenes.

But the female city elf origin was far superior. The male version got you to the same point but it was not as personal. As a rogue, I don't want to feel that I got to the same point that a mage would have but that the mage's progression was way cooler.

This is all IMO:
I found both had their own moments, female city elf was better at the lead up to the confrontation with Vaughan but the male one was (IMO) better when back home at the Alienage and your wife explains everything before leaving you. I was like... "You ****!" and cried in a corner (not really but my city elf did ;P).
