I know that Bethany is your sister but do you think that she will be a permanent party member? Or do you think that she will die early in the game thus making a big part of the game revenge?

I would appreciate anyone (Bioware *cough *cough) to answer me.

Bethany could be very important. Or she could be completely unimportant.

like how sten could die early on if you leave him in the cage or stick with you throughout the game?

But not moderately important?

I see this two ways...either she can die or we simply ignore her.

If that is something what I think it is, considering the implied importance of the Hawke Mage legacy,...it sounds like it's something to be unravelled in multiple playthroughs.

I guess she might be moderately important too, sure.

We're not going to break it down more than that. Why spoil it for yourselves?

As far as I can tell she has a custom made face and hair...that effort alone done on BWs part implies *some* importance I'd say.

I'm sure she won't be killed off in the first hour of the game -or rather will be able to survive a large part of the game.

On what scale that is actually?

Very important: being a companion, or a very strong related story arc or quest

Moderately important: survives the escape, not a companion, maybe a little templar/mage conflict quest related.

Completely unimportant: as in she could die at the beginning and that's that....

Which is which?

The same is also true for Carver, Aveline and Wesley.

How do you figure that? We've seen a grand total of 5 humans IIRC (if we count Flemeth).

And I thought all faces were custom made.

David, if she was completely unimportant, there's a better than even chance you'd want to calm us down about her. Now if you had said she might be moderately important in your former post, I might believe that. But you didn't, so I think it's fair to say you just confirmed she is indeed very important.

Just kidding, don't hate me for this - if she's not though, I might just have earned you some extra tears from Bethany fans for your diet! (note to self: if I ever meet David Gaider in person, be sure to bring onions to give him some of my tears... or would those not count?)

Ah, so one of my assumptions was true, or all of them .

Rage and grief is very important for an appropiate tear flavoring, plus they increase the amounts of food in a tear. Onion tears wouldn't be so tasty or nutritious.

You mean we wouldn't imply that she's a follower, maybe even put her in her own video, if she wasn't going to be with you the entire game? I suppose that's true. We'd never do that. Posted Image

Speculate all you like, folks, but we're not going to provide spoilers on demand. Bethany may or may not be important to you when you play. That's it.

Schrodinger's Sister?

So long as the game doesn't shuffle her out the door right off the bat it should be fine.

My guess is that much like Origins, all the companions are as important or unimportant as you want to make them. Unless of course they're wielding the Plot Hammer somehow like Alistair or Morrigan, but even then you can ignore them until their plot moments come later on.

My guess is Bethany gets taken over by Flemeth, depending on how you dealt with Flemeth in Origins.

Confirmed that Bethany is not "semi" important. Put this in the what we know thread.

Edit:  Wow fast moving thread, I typed this in and another 10 posts appeared above including one where the lead writer debunked my comment.

I rather think she will be mortally injured and Flemeth will rebuild her, with her ending up as some sort of Thedas based Galvatron or something.

This is what I would hope - she's a permanent companion but depending on your decisions can reach a crisis point in which she is disgusted with your behavior and abandons you, then later appears as one of your greatest opponents. That would be great.

I don't like PCs pre-existing relationships having a major role in the game

Ah, so you'd actually try to replicate the Mhairi disappointment *on purpose*? I'm impressed; you truly are the tear master.

I think Bethany will be important for a mage or non-mage Hawke, especially if the templars play a vital role in Kirkwall and the rest of the Free Marches. As an apostate, Bethany is certainly going to be at risk from the templars and the Chantry (along with an apostate Hawke) while a non-mage Hawke might have the option to side with factions in Kirkwall that support the templar base of power, possibly causing friction between Hawke and his family. Bethany could be the reason for choosing a particular path to take as Hawke, especially if you come to care for her and want to support a particular path that might make her happy at the cost of something you as Hawke want.

It wasn't my decision to make a video for her, but I certainly enjoyed the spectacle. Forumites gnashing their teeth because they built something up to be what it wasn't isn't really a deterrent. You start making assumptions at your own risk.
